Are You Actually Ready for Q1 Brand Photography Inquiries?25 Sep 202600:24:32

Someone is going to sit down at her kitchen table in the next few months, make a list of everything she wants to do for her business in 2027, and realize she really needs new photos. Come January, she may start looking for a brand photographer. Are you ready for what happens when she finds you??

We’ve spent a lot of time talking about marketing lately, and for good reason. But you can’t pour marketing juice into a leaky cup. More inquiries are great—until the process those clients enter isn’t giving them the experience or the photos they came for.

In this episode, we’re looking at the part of your business that happens after your marketing works. I’m walking you through four questions to help you audit your client process before Q1 gets busy.

We’re talking:

  • Whether your pricing makes the value clear—or leaves inquiries overwhelmed
  • What your past galleries reveal about how you plan sessions
  • How both you and your clients feel during a shoot
  • Whether clients are using their photos, rebooking, and referring others
  • Why you need actual numbers for this audit, not just vibes

“I’ll Send You Her Instagram” is the New Referral10 Sep 202600:10:58

A couple weeks ago on this very podcast, I said referrals are not a marketing strategy. And because nothing is ever black and white in my brain, the second I said it, I thought, “Well… they can be, though.” 😅

Here’s what I realized: referrals haven’t gone away. They’ve gone digital. “I’m going to send you her Instagram” is the new referral. Someone hears your name from a friend, past client, or business owner they trust—and then they go look you up. They binge your Instagram. They read your website. Maybe they listen to your podcast. And what they find online can either build on the trust that referral created… or make them question it.

For brand photographers especially, that matters. You’re asking people to trust you with their brand, which means your own online presence is doing a whole lot more than just looking pretty. That's what this episode is about.

We’re talking:

  • Why word of mouth has officially gone digital
  • What referrals are actually doing after they hear your name
  • Why “hot mess” isn’t a strategy for brand photographers
  • The difference between being yourself and intentionally curating your brand
  • How your online presence can shorten the time it takes someone to trust you
  • Why building your brand before you have more time and money isn’t backwards—it’s how you get there

My Million Dollar Story03 Sep 202600:17:16

A first-class plane ticket totally changed my life. In May 2023, I was heading to Louisville to spend two days with my business coach when she told me to dress in “one-million-dollar business attire” and start imagining myself as Million Dollar Maddie. Naturally, I was annoyed. But I’m also nothing if not a bit of a rule follower, so I went with it. (And because I’m a Taurus who deeply values luxury and comfort, I upgraded to first class.)

That experience made me realize that if I wanted to become the version of myself who ran a million-dollar business, I needed to start making decisions like her now. This matters for brand photographers because the version of you making your business decisions is also shaping your brand. When those decisions come from fear, people-pleasing, and trying not to rock the boat, your brand becomes safer, smaller, and much easier to ignore.

We’re talking:

  • How I accidentally built a brand from the smallest version of myself
  • Why invisibility feels safe but fails every time
  • What your imposter syndrome actually is
  • The four parts of a brand with a backbone
  • Positioning from fear versus positioning from abundance
  • Asking what the million-dollar version of you would do

Complicated Content Is Killing Your Business27 Aug 202600:12:32

If it takes you an hour or more to make one reel, I can tell you right now how that reel is going to do: badly. 😬 And I know that because I’ve watched it happen a few hundred times. Somewhere along the way, photographers got the idea that good content has to be complicated—and it’s making Instagram way harder than it needs to be.

In this episode, we’re talking about why the content you’re spending the most time creating may actually be hurting your consistency and your results. I’m breaking down what I see over and over in content reviews inside Rebrand, what Instagram is already telling us works, and why I’m a big fan of what I lovingly call “lazy girl content.” Because the goal isn’t to make sloppy content. It’s to make simple, strategic content you can actually sustain.

We’re talking:

  • Why complicated content often doesn’t perform
  • What “lazy girl content” actually looks like
  • The five-to-seven-second B-roll rule
  • Why one piece of content should make one singular point
  • How overcomplicating content kills your consistency
  • A 10-minute content challenge to try this week

Your Referrals Are About to Run Out20 Aug 202600:12:16

Getting started as a photographer can feel a little magical. Your friends and family book you, word starts to spread, and clients come in without you having to think too hard about marketing or positioning. But as your business grows, your prices increase, and you want to attract a more specific type of client, those early referrals may not fuel your business the way they once did.

That doesn’t mean your work suddenly isn’t good enough or other photographers are better than you. It usually means your business needs what every growing business needs: clear positioning, consistent marketing, and a referral strategy you’re actively steering. In this episode, I’m sharing why I will never fully rely on referrals, what happened when I took my own foot off the marketing gas, and how visibility helps you stay in the driver’s seat of your business.

We’re talking:

  • Why friends, family, and word of mouth can only take your business so far
  • The six-week lag I experienced after stepping away from marketing
  • Why good work alone is not a differentiator
  • Referrals as a byproduct versus a real strategy
  • How well-positioned marketing makes sales calls feel easier
  • The one lever you can pull when inquiries slow down

Why Photographers Who Are Great at Their Job Still Struggle to Get Clients13 Aug 202600:10:29

You have invested in your craft. You’ve done the work. Your portfolio is strong. And somehow, it still feels like you’re the best-kept secret that nobody knows about.

This is one of the most demoralizing places to be in business because the thing you can point to, your work, isn’t actually the thing that’s broken. At a certain point, the gap isn’t skill. It’s everything happening around the skill. Because as much as we’d all love for great work to simply speak for itself, the market doesn’t automatically reward talent. It rewards the photographers who can clearly communicate their value, build trust, and make the right client think, “That’s exactly what I need.”

In this episode, we’re looking at what actually keeps talented brand photographers stuck and the four gaps that could be standing between you and better clients, stronger inquiries, and more bookings. And yes, I’m going to tell you to put down the Lightroom catalog for a minute. 😬

We’re talking:

  • Why better photography might not be what grows your business
  • The four gaps that you may be struggling with
  • A simple way to test whether your brand is actually clear
  • Why competing on price is a race to the bottom
  • The hard truth that, at a certain point, talent is talent
  • Why getting clear on your brand comes before fixing your marketing

The Instagram Mistake That's Making You Invisible06 Aug 202600:14:18

We have an epidemic on our hands… and it's not that photographers aren't posting enough. It's that we're so focused on creating the perfect Instagram aesthetic that we've accidentally made ourselves disappear. If you've ever waited to post until your hair looked better, your grid felt cohesive, or your caption was just right, this episode is for you.

Today we're talking about why your dream clients aren't hiring you because your feed is pretty. They're hiring you because they feel like they know you. If your content looks polished but lacks personality or perspective, you could be blending in instead of standing out. I'm sharing why connection will always outperform perfection, how to stop hiding behind your aesthetic, and the mindset shift that can completely change the way you show up online.

We're talking:

  • Why a perfect Instagram grid can actually hurt your brand
  • The difference between looking polished and building real connection
  • A simple question to test whether your content is truly recognizable
  • Why your perspective matters more than your aesthetic
  • How over-explaining and caveating your content can hold you back
  • The role personality plays in attracting dream clients

Signs It's Time to Raise Your Prices30 Jul 202600:16:05

Most photographers wait until they feel ready to raise their prices, but unfortunately, ready is just not something that shows up. Readiness is not the signal that it's time for a price increase. But there are real signals you can watch for that clue you in to when that price hike you've been putting off is actually overdue.

This is the conversation nobody really wants to have, and I'll be honest, 2026 is a tough year to raise prices. But that doesn't mean you don't deserve to get paid what you're worth. In this episode, I'm walking through the obvious and not-so-obvious signs it's time to raise your prices, so you can stop guessing and start charging what actually makes sense for the business you're running.

We're talking:

  • The 3 obvious signs you're overdue for a price increase
  • Why resentment toward your sessions is almost always a pricing problem in disguise
  • What your inquiry-to-booking rate is actually telling you about your prices
  • Why your price is a brand signal, whether you want it to be or not
  • The truth about asking friends and family what you should charge
  • Why confidence comes after you raise your prices, not before

Stop Chasing FUN In Your Business—Do This Instead23 Jul 202600:16:56

"Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life." I call BS on that. Business is work! Business is hard, and if it were easy, everyone would have one. I need you to hold some nuance with me today, because two things can be true: you can love your business AND you shouldn't rely on it to fill you up all the time. Chasing fun in your business is sabotaging your growth. That's what we're getting into.

This week I'm talking about the lie we've been sold in the age of social media — that everything in our business needs to feel aligned and fun, or something's broken. It's not. Some of it is sticky, unglamorous, and gritty, and that's not a red flag, that's just business. For brand photographers especially, this one matters, because I see so many of you chasing that first-launch dopamine hit instead of building something sustainable — and burning yourself out switching things up instead of sitting with the discomfort of making what you have actually work.

We're talking:

  • Why "just outsource it" isn't always realistic (or smart) advice
  • The sequencing mistake I made with my own outsourcing
  • Why I'll never fully hand off my Instagram, even with a social media manager
  • Chasing the dopamine hit vs. building something sustainable
  • Why "boring" and repetitive might be the most underrated business strategy
  • The truth about what your business is actually for (hint: not entertaining you)

Behind the Scenes of my Best Launch Ever16 Jul 202600:21:56

I just wrapped up a launch with a 12% conversion rate, and I'm gonna tell you all about it. I don't typically take you behind the scenes of my business quite like this, but today I am, because this is the stuff I spend most of my time on now (the education side of my business). And this launch was my best one yet.

In this episode, I'm breaking down the two big tests I ran with this launch of Behind the Shot: going all organic (no ads into the masterclass) and treating Behind the Shot as its own standalone launch instead of always pushing Rebrand. I'm sharing the real numbers, what I learned about my funnel, and what you're probably underestimating the most in your content. If you've ever wondered what actually goes into a successful launch, or you're curious about the education side of business ownership, this one's for you!

We're talking:

  • Why I tested an all-organic launch (no ads) for the first time
  • The exact numbers: 300+ on the wait list, 36 enrolled, 12% conversion
  • How my shot list freebie is quietly doing more work than I realized
  • The real amount of content it takes to have a launch like this (spoiler: it's a lot)
  • Why I'm rethinking how often I launch Behind the Shot vs. Rebrand
  • The mindset shift I want you to have around posting and selling

How to Use a Slow Season Intentionally09 Jul 202600:19:05

The month of July can feel a little... slow. And every year I watch photographers absolutely panic about that. 😅 But slow doesn't have to mean scary. In fact, when you handle it intentionally, a slow season can end up being one of the most valuable parts of your entire year.

In this episode, I'm sharing exactly how I use slower months like July (and December) to rest, reset, and build a stronger business without disappearing from my marketing. We'll talk about the money mindset that makes slow seasons feel less stressful, how to keep showing up without burning yourself out, and the behind-the-scenes projects that will make your busy season so much easier. Because the photographers who have a booked-out fall? They're laying the groundwork for it right now.

We’re talking:

  • Why slow doesn't have to mean scary
  • Planning your finances for inconsistent income
  • Keeping your marketing consistent without posting nonstop
  • Turning one brand session into months of content
  • Behind-the-scenes projects worth tackling during slower months
  • Why your booked-out fall starts in July

What No One Tells You About Being a Brand Photographer01 Jul 202600:19:31

At the risk of sounding incredibly cheesy... brand photography is truly my dream. I genuinely can't imagine doing anything else. But here's the thing: there are a lot of parts of building a profitable brand photography business that nobody really talks about.

In this episode, I'm sharing the lessons I wish someone would've told me sooner. Because being a talented photographer and running a profitable business are two completely different skill sets. We'll talk about why the camera is actually a small part of your job, what really creates clients who rebook and refer, and why your systems matter so much more than being "naturally talented." If you've ever felt like the business side is harder than the photography side, this one's for you.

We're talking:

  • Why being a great photographer isn't enough to build a profitable business
  • The strategy before the shoot (and the delivery after) that clients actually remember
  • Teaching clients the value of brand photography
  • Why pricing isn't based on your gear or hours
  • Turning your delivery process into a marketing moment
  • Building repeatable systems that create referrals and rebookings

The Difference Between a Pretty Shoot and a Profitable One01 Jul 202600:11:39

Before I started shooting brand photography, I had this really idealistic picture in my mind of what it could look like. Beautiful sessions, incredible clients, and helping businesses grow.

And while all of that is true... nobody tells you that creating beautiful photos and running a profitable brand photography business are two completely different skills.

In this episode, we're talking about everything that happens outside of clicking the shutter. From pricing and client education to portfolio strategy and delivering galleries that actually lead to referrals, this is the side of brand photography that can completely change your business. If you've ever felt like you're creating great work but still struggling to build consistent momentum, this episode is for you.

We’re talking:

  • Why the actual photoshoot is only about 20% of the job
  • Pricing for outcomes instead of hours or gear
  • Teaching clients the value of brand photography
  • Turning gallery delivery into marketing momentum
  • Building a portfolio that attracts the work you actually want
  • Why profitable photographers rely on systems—not talent

Your Beautiful Photos Aren't Booking Clients18 Jun 202600:16:41

What if I told you your brand photos can be genuinely beautiful, stunning photos that you're proud of... and still completely fail your client?

I know. That's a rough open. 😅 But it's also one of the biggest mistakes I see photographers make.

Because pretty photos aren't actually what clients are buying. They're buying outcomes and transformation. And when a gallery is full of beautiful images that don't help move a business forward, everyone loses. The client doesn't get the ROI they hoped for, and you miss out on referrals, repeat bookings, and the kind of reputation that keeps your calendar full.

In this episode, we're talking about the difference between photos that are simply pretty and photos that are profitable. I'll share the mindset shift that completely changed the way I approach brand sessions, why strategy matters more than ever in 2026, and how to create images that actually get used long after the gallery is delivered.

We're talking:

  • Why pretty photos are the bare minimum in brand photography
  • The real reason clients invest in a brand session
  • Signs your galleries aren't creating ROI
  • How to make sure every image has a job to do
  • The conversation that completely changed my business
  • Why strategy is the new premium differentiator

The Brand Photography Client You’re Probably Avoiding11 Jun 202600:16:16

If you've ever had a potential client tell you, “I don't even know what we would shoot,” because they sit at a computer all day, this episode is for you. It's also for the photographers who secretly aren't sure what they'd do with a lawyer, accountant, banker, or coach on their calendar.

The truth is, these are some of the most overlooked brand photography clients out there, and they often need brand photography more than anyone! In this episode, I'm sharing why photographers are sleeping on these businesses, how to stop relying on laptops and headshots, and what it really takes to create strategic brand sessions for clients whose work lives mostly inside their brain.

We're talking:

• Why “boring” businesses are actually incredible brand photography clients

• The huge mistake photographers make when marketing their services

• Moving beyond headshots, laptops, and office photos

• How to uncover visual storytelling ideas through discovery calls

• Translating abstract concepts like growth, communication, and leadership into imagery

• Becoming a strategic partner instead of “just” a photographer

The Questions That Make Clients Choose You04 Jun 202600:19:11

What if I told you that the reason a client chooses you over another photographer has nothing to do with your portfolio, and everything to do with the questions you ask?

In this episode, we're diving into one of the most underrated tools in your brand photography business: the discovery call. Most photographers treat it like a quick formality before booking, but I see it as one of the most powerful sales and positioning tools you have. The inquiry process isn't separate from the client experience—it is the client experience!

When done well, a discovery call builds trust, uncovers what your client actually needs, and makes it a whole lot easier for them to say yes.

We're talking:

• Why the discovery call is part of the client experience

• Questions that shift you from photographer to strategic partner

• Helping clients clarify goals before they invest

• Identifying marketing gaps and creating stronger ROI

• Red flags to watch for before a client books

• How asking better questions can increase your booking rate

The Best Marketing You're Overlooking28 May 202600:20:13

Everybody wants to talk about how to get more clients. Hi, same. But what if your biggest growth lever actually isn’t your marketing? What if the thing you’re overlooking is what happens after someone books you?

In this episode, I’m talking about why your client experience might actually be your best marketing strategy — and why the clients currently in front of your lens are probably the reason your next clients will book you. Because yes, your branding and marketing matter. But if your process isn’t creating raving fans, referrals, reviews, and return clients… you’re pouring into a leaky bucket.

We’re diving into how to create a brand photography experience people genuinely cannot stop talking about — from inquiry to delivery — and how small, strategic shifts can completely change the way clients see you (and sell you to everyone they know).

We’re talking:

  • Why referrals + return clients are still your best leads
  • Strategic discovery call questions that instantly position you as the expert
  • Turning “non-visual” businesses into purposeful brand imagery
  • Creating an on-set experience clients rave about later at happy hour
  • Why client comfort matters just as much as the photos
  • Underpromising, overdelivering, and building repeat business naturally

You’re Not Losing to AI. You’re Losing to Boring Marketing21 May 202600:15:34

AI is getting better. Like…a lot better. If you’ve been side-eyeing AI headshots lately wondering what this means for photographers, you’re definitely not alone. In this episode, I’m sharing why I don’t actually think photographers are losing to AI - I think they’re losing to boring marketing.

Here’s the thing: if all you’re selling is a gallery of images, yes, that’s going to become easier to replace. But brand photography was never just about the photos. It’s about the confidence shift, the visibility, the experience, the strategy, and the way your clients feel when they finally see themselves as the expert they already are.

We’re talking:

  • Why “book a headshot session” marketing isn’t working anymore
  • The difference between selling deliverables vs. transformation
  • What AI can replicate - and what it absolutely cannot
  • Why client experience matters more than ever
  • How to create marketing that feels like you’re “inside your client’s head”
  • Why case studies and behind-the-scenes content are more powerful than photo dumps

Ghosted by Clients: Fix Your Process Now14 May 202600:18:07

Getting ghosted by potential clients? I’m here to tell you what you likely don’t want to hear: it’s (probably) not your pricing. 👀

In this episode, I’m breaking down why photographers immediately blame their rates when inquiries go cold, and why the real issue is usually hiding somewhere in your process instead. From slow inquiry responses to confusing proposals to discovery calls with zero direction, we walk through the exact spots where clients are quietly dropping off (and how to fix them).

If you’ve ever spiraled after a client disappeared, convinced yourself your prices are “too expensive,” or felt personally victimized by a no-response email…this one’s for you. Getting ghosted is frustrating, but it’s also fixable.

We’re talking:

• Why pricing usually isn’t the real problem

• “Speed equals sales” and what that actually means

• The biggest mistakes photographers make in inquiry emails

• Why vibes are not a closing strategy 😅

• How to lead discovery calls like an expert

• The problem with “Cheesecake Factory menu” pricing guides

Why Custom Packages Are Killing Your Conversion (Pricing Like an Expert)07 May 202600:14:04

Picture this: You just got an inquiry from a brand photography client you are so excited to work with. You spend 45 minutes building a custom proposal...tweaking image counts, session length, adding options, and you hit send feeling good. And then? Silence. Or worse, they come back asking what they can remove to make it cheaper.

Here’s the thing: it’s not your pricing. It’s how you’re pricing.

In this episode, I’m breaking down why custom packages are quietly killing your conversions and what to do instead. If you’ve been defaulting to “build-your-own” proposals because you want to serve your clients well, this is your sign to stop overcomplicating it. Your clients don’t need more options. They need a clear, confident expert to guide them!

We’re talking:

  • Why “custom everything” creates confusion (not flexibility)
  • How too many options leads to ghosting and price shopping
  • The real reason clients push back on pricing
  • Why features don’t sell (and what actually does)
  • What an expert-level package structure actually looks like
  • How to position your offer so clients trust you without questioning every detail

Mini Sessions Not Selling? Listen to This.30 Apr 202600:18:23

You’ve decided you’re offering mini sessions. You picked the date, the location, the pricing...you’re ready! You hit publish, fully expecting your Stripe account to light up - and then *crickets*.

If your mini sessions aren’t selling the way you thought they would, this episode is your reality check (in the best way). Because most of the time? Nothing has actually gone wrong.

We’re getting into what’s really happening when your launch feels quiet, and why your nervous system might be the thing pulling you out too early. I’m also walking you through the actual timeline and strategy behind a successful mini session launch so you can stop guessing and start selling with intention.

We’re talking:

  • Why “crickets” doesn’t mean failure
  • The nervous system spiral (and how to coach yourself through it)
  • A realistic mini session launch timeline (60, 30, 14 days out)
  • Building demand vs. expecting it to exist
  • How more may be better than less when it comes to selling
  • Selling every day without feeling “annoying”

How I'm Using AI for Content Creation–Ethically (I Think?)23 Apr 202600:24:21

I love the traveling, conference attending, and speaking part of my job, but I’m a homebody at heart. As I jump back into real-time content creation this week, it had me thinking about something that kept coming up everywhere I went: AI.

And honestly? I have a lot of thoughts.

This episode is a very real look at how I’m using AI in my business right now and how I truly feel about it. On one hand, it’s an incredible tool. On the other, I’ve got ethical concerns, environmental questions, and a strong resistance to losing the human side of what we do. So instead of pretending I have the “right” answer, I’m walking you through what I’m actually doing - especially when it comes to content, and how I’m trying to use AI without losing my voice (or my mind).

We’re talking:

  • The pressure to “keep up” with AI (and the guilt that comes with it)
  • Ethical + environmental concerns no one’s really answering
  • AI tools I actually use in my photography business
  • Why original thought has to come first (always)
  • My exact workflow for turning one podcast into emails + social content
  • The difference between using AI well vs. sounding like a robot

The #1 Thing I Invest In In My Business09 Apr 202600:13:57

I’m in the middle of a very full stretch of travel, conferences, and speaking. And it got me thinking about something I’ve done from day one in my business - the one thing I will always spend money on.

In this episode, I’m breaking down why continuing education and coaching has been the biggest investment I’ve made (outside of people) and why I truly believe it’s a non-negotiable if you want to grow. If you’re a brand photographer who feels like you’re spinning your wheels, second-guessing your next move, or just not showing up the way you want to, this is the conversation we need to have.

We’re talking:

  1. Why education + coaching has never been optional for me
  2. The difference between consuming everything vs. getting what you need
  3. Why paid containers create a different level of commitment
  4. The real reason you feel stuck (hint: it’s your thoughts)
  5. What “thought work” actually looks like in business
  6. Borrowing confidence from your future, million-dollar self

The Type of Content You Need to Try This Week02 Apr 202600:12:13

You are making All. The. Content. You’ve got your Marketing Monday, you’re creating in Canva, you’re scrolling for the perfect reel… and you’re exhausted.

If that’s you (or has been you) - it doesn’t have to be this hard.

Yes, content creation takes time. It should. It’s how you make money. But there is a way to make it simpler and still wildly effective. In this episode, I’m breaking down what I call “lazy girl content” - the kind of content that feels almost too easy, but consistently performs the best.

This is the follow-up to last week’s conversation about reach content, and we’re getting super practical here. If you want engagement, visibility, and momentum (without burning out or spending hours designing posts), this is the type of content you need to try this week.

We’re talking:

  1. What “lazy girl content” actually is (and why it works)
  2. The two formats to focus on: reels + carousels
  3. 5–10 second B-roll reels with strong, scroll-stopping hooks
  4. Messaging that makes your ideal client think, “wait… that’s me”
  5. Casual carousels that feel like you (not over-designed)
  6. Why simpler, more human content often performs better

What To Post When You Want Results NOW26 Mar 202600:21:38

Have you ever posted something you thought was really good and then refreshed Instagram 17 times waiting for something to happen? Or convinced yourself the app was broken because your post flopped?

Yeah. Same.

Content creation is emotional. It’s vulnerable to put yourself out there and then feel like nothing is happening. And while real business results take time (hi, the 90-day reality), your nervous system still wants proof now. In this episode, we’re talking about what to post when you need a little momentum. When you want results now.

This episode breaks down the role of reach content and why it matters if you’re trying to stay consistent long enough to actually see results. Because no, this isn’t about instant sales — it’s about getting eyes on your content, building engagement, and creating the kind of momentum that keeps you in the game long enough for trust (and sales) to build.

We’re talking:

  1. The 90-day truth behind marketing (and why things feel slow)
  2. What “reach content” actually is (and what it’s not)
  3. Why engagement matters more than you think (hello, dopamine)
  4. Relatable POV posts that make people say “wait… that’s me”
  5. Simple content series that build consistency and anticipation
  6. How to make educational content more engaging (not boring)

B-Roll Every Brand Photographer Needs19 Mar 202600:17:01

Content is so much easier to create when you actually have content to pull from. Photos. Videos. Little clips from your day. When you have a bank of B-roll ready to go, creating posts suddenly becomes a lot simpler.

In this quick episode, I’m answering a question that comes up all the time inside Rebrand: what B-roll should brand photographers actually be capturing for their own content?

I’m breaking it down into two categories — the B-roll you should be capturing during client sessions and the B-roll you can film during a content day (or just throughout your regular workday). Because when you start intentionally collecting these little clips, you’ll never be scrambling for content again.

We’re talking about the exact types of moments to capture and why these clips work so well in your marketing.

We’re talking:

  1. The B-roll moments to capture during every brand session
  2. Why showing the experience of working with you builds trust
  3. Easy “content day” clips you can film at home or during your workday
  4. The mistake photographers make when filming B-roll (and how to fix it)
  5. Why simple “lazy girl content” often performs the best

How to Grow Your Audience on Instagram12 Mar 202600:17:57

I know you want to grow your audience on Instagram...and it feels like it’s just not happening. But most people don’t actually have a growth problem. They have a messaging problem.

In this episode, we’re talking about what actually drives growth on Instagram in 2026… and what to stop doing. Because growth isn’t the goal. It’s the byproduct of creating content people share, save, and send to their friends.

If you’re stuck blaming the algorithm, posting a pretty portfolio, or trying to make one post do everything… this one’s for you. We’re breaking down what really builds an audience of the right followers — the ones who move from “who is this?” to “I trust her” to “I want this.”

We’re talking:

  1. Reach content vs. rapport content vs. revenue content — and why you need all three
  2. Why the algorithm isn’t sabotaging you (people build the algorithm 👀)
  3. The biggest mistakes photographers make when they’re not growing
  4. Why entertainment alone won’t build reputation or revenue
  5. How to stop overcomplicating your posts and start rotating strategically
  6. Examples of POV-driven content that actually connects

Growth isn’t about posting more (unless you’re not posting at all). It’s about creating content that makes people feel understood and that builds trust...even if it’s not the highest-engagement post on your grid.

How To Build Brand Authority with Thought Leadership05 Mar 202600:18:16

Have you ever read a post and thought, “Oh my gosh… it feels like they’re in my head”? That’s not luck. That’s really good messaging. And it’s thought leadership.

Thought leadership is the kind of content that turns followers into clients because it makes people feel deeply seen and understood. It builds trust. It builds your reputation. It’s how you become the photographer on someone’s vision board instead of the one competing on price and features.

But what actually is thought leadership? And how do you create it without becoming some internet guru with a “my way or the highway” attitude?

In this episode, I’m breaking down what thought leadership really means, why it matters more than ever in today’s trust recession, and how to start infusing it into your content in a way that feels natural and true to you.

We’re talking:

  1. What thought leadership actually is (and what it’s not)
  2. Why perspective—not “pretty photos”—is the real differentiator in brand photography
  3. How to gut-check your content to see if you’re actually leading
  4. How to answer the “why beyond the why” in your messaging
  5. Turning your process into opinions and proof
  6. The common mistakes that quietly kill brand authority
  7. Why your voice is more powerful than ChatGPT (and how to use AI without losing yourself)

Are You Selling Features, or VALUE?26 Feb 202600:18:10

If you’ve ever written on your pricing page “60 images, two outfits, 90 minutes” and hoped that would justify the $2,500 brand session… this episode is for you, my friend.

Inside Rebrand, the first thing we look at with new students is their pricing. Because we can’t fix your marketing and sales if your positioning is off. And pricing is one of the very first ways people decide how to categorize you.

And what I see over and over again is sales pages that read like a Cheesecake Factory menu. So in this episode, I’m breaking down the difference between features and value, and why features don’t close four-figure sales.

We’re talking:

  1. The difference between cost-based pricing and value-based pricing
  2. Why listing session length and image count isn’t the same as communicating value
  3. How to turn features (like “3-hour session” or “60 images”) into benefits that actually sell
  4. The biggest pricing positioning mistake brand photographers make
  5. A quick diagnostic exercise to see if you’re selling features instead of transformation
  6. Why raising your prices has more to do with clarity than adding more deliverables

Listen to This If You've Lost a Client19 Feb 202600:12:26

A few weeks ago, I got an Instagram DM from a student who was having a hard time. She had photographed a dream client about a year ago. The session went so well, the photos were stunning, it truly could not have gone better. And then she recently saw that same client book another brand photographer. And her heart was broken.

And honestly? Mine was too. Because I’ve been there. I think we’ve all been there. Whether you’re a brand photographer or not, if you’ve been in business long enough, you’ve probably lost a client.

So in this episode, I’m walking you through how I think about losing a client, what to evaluate, what not to spiral over, and how to reframe it in a way that actually makes you stronger (and maybe even a little delusional in the best way).

We’re talking:

  1. What to do first when you find out a client booked someone else
  2. How to evaluate your process and experience without spiraling
  3. The difference between a one-off loss and a pattern you need to pay attention to
  4. Why “there is enough for everyone” is more than just a fluffy mindset
  5. When your offer might actually be the issue
  6. The “if not this, then better” mindset shift that’s changed everything for me
  7. How to respond publicly when a past client works with another photographer (yes, go comment on their post!)

If this has happened to you recently, I hope this episode feels like a deep breath and a little perspective shift.

What Social Media Platforms Should I Be On?12 Feb 202600:10:40

I’ve got a short and sweet episode for you today based on a question I hear all the time: what social media platforms should I actually be on?

This comes up a lot, especially for brand photographers who are working B2B. Suddenly you’re wondering… should I be on LinkedIn? Is Instagram enough? What about TikTok? Am I missing something if I’m not everywhere?

In this episode, I’m walking you through exactly how I decide what platforms make sense for my business and how you can use the same thought process to decide what makes sense for yours (without adding more to your plate or burning yourself out).

We’re talking:

  1. How to decide what social media platforms are actually worth your time
  2. The Venn diagram test I use to choose where I show up
  3. Instagram vs. LinkedIn vs. TikTok (and why the “right” answer is different for everyone)
  4. When it makes sense to add another platform and when it really doesn’t
  5. Why doing one platform really well beats trying to be everywhere

If you’ve ever felt pressure to show up on all the platforms, or you’re second-guessing whether you’re doing enough, this episode will help you simplify your strategy and feel way more confident in where you’re focusing your energy.

This is Why Marketing Feels Hard05 Feb 202600:19:33

I’ve been thinking a lot about why marketing feels hard, even for photographers who are incredibly talented at what they do.

So many of my clients are amazing photographers. They’re skilled, experienced, and really good at their jobs… and yet marketing still feels uncomfortable or frustrating.

And the more I’ve sat with that, the more I’ve realized: if marketing feels hard for you, that actually makes a lot of sense.

In this episode, we’re not talking about hacks, trends, or quick fixes. Instead, I’m offering a reframe that I hope feels grounding, especially if you’ve ever felt like you’re “failing” at marketing or stuck in perfectionism.

We’re talking about why marketing is one of the only skills in your business that requires visibility before mastery and how that reality creates so much tension for photographers who are used to being experts.

In this episode, I’m breaking down why marketing feels so uncomfortable, how to detach your self-worth from your results, and how to start approaching your content as data instead of a performance.

We’re talking:

  1. Why marketing feels harder than photography, editing, or workflows
  2. The difference between private practice vs. public learning
  3. Why marketing requires visibility before mastery
  4. How perfectionism keeps photographers stuck and hidden
  5. Why marketing should be treated as an experiment, not a verdict
  6. The real order of growth: action → data → refinement
  7. How confidence in marketing is built after you start, not before

If marketing has ever felt like a public rough draft, or you’ve caught yourself thinking “once I feel more confident, I’ll post,” this episode is for you. Listen in for a mindset shift that will help marketing feel lighter and a lot more sustainable in 2026.

Should My Instagram Be More Aesthetic?22 Jan 202600:14:00

I’ve really loved the direction my content has gone over the last year… but if I’m being honest, I haven’t always loved the look of my Instagram feed.

And as a brand photographer, that feels complicated. Because on one hand, we know the content that performs best right now is more organic, in-the-moment, camera-roll style content. But on the other hand, we’re literally in the business of selling aesthetics. So where’s the balance?

In this episode, I’m breaking down the push-pull between wanting your Instagram to look good and wanting it to actually work for your business, plus how to stop letting perfectionism get in the way of consistency and conversions.

We’re talking:

  1. Why organic content often outperforms overly polished posts (even for brand photographers)
  2. The uncomfortable tension between selling an aesthetic and posting content that converts
  3. How to mix curated and organic content without your feed feeling chaotic
  4. Simple posting patterns that still look good on the grid
  5. Why consistency and messaging matter more than chasing the “perfect” aesthetic
  6. How perfectionism quietly stalls your marketing and what to do instead

If you’ve ever found yourself not posting because it doesn’t feel good enough, press play 🎧 to hear how to navigate aesthetics without letting it derail your momentum.

My Ground Beef Metric for Instagram—and Why it Matters15 Jan 202600:13:24

At the end of 2025, I shared two podcast episodes breaking down my best and worst Instagram content from the year. And when I teased those episodes on Instagram, I got a lot of questions about how I actually decide what makes a post “good” or “bad.”

The obvious answer is data. I look at analytics, engagement, and performance. But the deeper answer (and the one that’s mattered way more for the long-term growth of my business) is that there’s a metric I care about even more than what Instagram shows me.

For years, I’ve relied on what I call my ground beef metric to gauge whether my content is actually doing what it’s supposed to do: building connection, trust, and relationships that eventually lead to inquiries and bookings.

In this episode, I’m breaking down what my ground beef metric is, why vanity metrics don’t tell the full story, and how to tell if your Instagram content is actually working, even when the numbers feel confusing or discouraging.

We’re talking:

  1. Why Instagram metrics matter (but shouldn’t control your emotions)
  2. The real reason posts sometimes don’t perform, even when they’re good
  3. What the ground beef metric is and how to use it to gauge audience connection
  4. Why Instagram Stories play such a big role in building trust
  5. How connection compounds over time into inquiries and bookings
  6. What to focus on if you want Instagram to feel easier and more fun again

If you’ve ever felt frustrated looking at your Instagram analytics, questioned whether your content is “working,” or wondered why posting feels so emotional sometimes, this episode will give you a totally different way to measure success.

Making Your Content Go Further in 202608 Jan 202600:28:09

I’m going into 2026 with the goal to scale my business. And that means I’m creating a lot of content.

Not just to create more content, but because I know, from years of data and experience, that when my content is done well, it actually moves the needle in my business.

For most people who end up working with me, their journey starts on Instagram and then leads to my podcast. That tells me everything I need to know about how important content is. The problem is that creating more content can feel overwhelming fast, especially when you’re already wearing all the hats.

In this episode, I’m walking you through how to repurpose content as a photographer so your content can go further in 2026 without burning you out.

We’re talking:

  1. What content repurposing actually looks like for photographers
  2. How to create one primary piece of content and break it into more pieces of content
  3. Why long-form content is the foundation of a strong content strategy
  4. The biggest mistakes I see photographers make with micro content
  5. How often you should really be posting and emailing

If content has ever felt like a hamster wheel, or you’ve found yourself staring at Instagram wondering what to post, this episode will give you a much clearer, more sustainable way to approach it. 🎧 Press play to learn how to make your content work harder for your business in 2026.

Why Your Business Needs a Marketing Monday01 Jan 202600:22:24

It’s easy to feel like you’re constantly behind on your marketing, especially during busy seasons of life and business. When client work piles up, marketing often becomes the thing you promise you’ll “get back to later”… until later never comes.

In this episode, we’re talking about why your photography business needs a real marketing system and how something as simple as a weekly Marketing Monday can completely change the way you show up, attract clients, and create momentum in your business.

Marketing Monday is a dedicated, non-negotiable block of time each week to work on your business, not just in it. It’s the system that helps you stop panic-marketing, stay consistent even when life is chaotic, and build demand year-round instead of reacting when inquiries slow down.

We’re talking:

  1. Why relying only on referrals eventually stops working
  2. How weekly marketing time keeps your pipeline full
  3. Why consistency matters more than doing “all the things”
  4. What actually counts as marketing (even when you’re not posting)
  5. How to reduce decision fatigue and mental load around content
  6. What to do during a Marketing Monday (and what not to stress about)

If you’ve ever felt stuck in a feast-or-famine cycle, struggled to stay consistent, or wished marketing felt simpler and more sustainable, this episode is for you.

2025 Wrapped25 Dec 202500:25:41

I almost didn’t record this episode.. not because I didn’t want to reflect on the year, but because I was making it bigger than it needed to be. So instead of overthinking it, I sat down with a post-it note and recorded a simple, honest 2025 wrapped: brand photography edition!

This episode isn’t data-driven or trend-heavy. It’s a real reflection on what actually defined my year as a brand photographer, educator, and coach - including what worked, what changed, and what I’m carrying with me into 2026.

Before you plan for what’s next, you have to understand what just happened. This episode walks through the three things that shaped my business in 2025, why returning to the basics made everything easier, and how slowing down created more clarity and capacity.

We’re talking:

  1. The three things that truly defined my brand photography business in 2025
  2. Why I intentionally booked fewer brand sessions
  3. How prioritizing profitability changed the way I make business decisions
  4. What hiring more intentionally unlocked in my business
  5. Why my content worked better than expected this year
  6. What I’m leaving behind in 2025 as I look ahead to 2026

My Worst Instagram Content From the Year18 Dec 202500:19:15

We all love talking about what worked on Instagram, but what about the posts that totally flopped? In this episode, I’m breaking down my “worst” Instagram content from the year, what those posts had in common, and why I’m actually not upset about any of it.

This is the second part of a little two-episode series - last week I walked through my best content and this episode is taking a looking at my worst performing content. Spoiler: a lot of my “worst” content is also some of the most important for building trust, deepening relationships, and growing my brand long-term.

We’re talking:

  • Why my lowest-performing posts are almost all talking head reels
  • How longer, more thoughtful content can still be wildly valuable even with low reach
  • The difference between content creator goals and business owner goals
  • How I’m using my Consistency Cure series, even though it’s not topping my analytics
  • Practical ways to improve “bad” posts without scrapping the idea completely
  • How to look at your own worst-performing content without making it personal

My Best Instagram Content From the Year11 Dec 202500:25:58

Instagram has been my thing since before I even had a photography business, but this year, my content looked a little different. I hired a social media manager, leaned into more nuanced topics, and started paying closer attention to what was actually working instead of just guessing. And spoiler: my best-performing posts were not the perfectly designed, “Pinterest-worthy” ones.

In this episode, I’m breaking down my best Instagram content from the year and what all of those posts had in common.

You’ll hear what kind of posts actually did the best for my brand photography and education business and how you can also use those patterns to create better, more strategic Instagram content of your own.

We’re talking:

  • Why I finally hired help for Instagram, even though social media has always been “my thing”
  • How I identified my best-performing posts (and what those posts actually were - see them on the blog!)
  • What my top content had in common: 5 main things
  • How “I” language and personal stories can still be super valuable for your audience
  • Why leaning into hotter topics made my content more fun
  • How behind-the-scenes and milestone posts ended up in my top performers

My #1 Tip for Creating Better Instagram Content04 Dec 202500:21:19

We’ve all had those moments where we know we need to post something…but have absolutely no idea what to say. In today’s episode, I’m breaking down the simple mindset shift that will help you create better Instagram content without feeling like you have to reinvent the wheel every single time.

Creating great content isn’t about being clever. It’s about being accurate, relevant, and empathetic. And one of the fastest ways to build trust is by speaking to your clients in the same words they use. Today I’m sharing where to find that language, how to use it, and why this approach works so well for brand photographers who want to create content that genuinely resonates.

We’re talking:

  • The real reason you get stuck wondering what to post
  • Why client language is the foundation of strong messaging
  • The exact places to collect content ideas
  • How to stop writing for photographers and start writing for your actual brand clients
  • Why vague, AI-ish captions don’t convert...and what to do instead
  • How to use repeated questions as your content roadmap

Stop Selling One Hour Brand Sessions!26 Nov 202500:20:02

Almost every brand photographer has said it at some point: “My clients only want a one-hour session.” And honestly? I get why that feels true; I used to believe it too. But one-hour brand shoots are keeping so many photographers stuck, exhausted, and wildly underpaid.

In this episode, we’re getting into why short sessions are creating chaos (for you and your clients) and why introducing a signature session is one of the fastest ways to elevate your work, raise your prices, and get clients the results they actually want.

This episode walks through what a signature session includes, how to position it, and what it takes to confidently remove “time” from your packages, so you can finally price based on value instead of minutes on your watch.

We’re talking:

  • Why one-hour brand sessions lead to chaos, over-delivery, and burned-out photographers
  • The #1 mindset shift photographers need to stop undercharging
  • What a signature session actually looks like
  • How to confidently push back when clients say they “only need an hour”
  • Why time shouldn’t be on your pricing/services page
  • A peek inside the brand-new pricing module inside Behind the Shot (and the Black Friday deal!)

The Photography Service You Need to Offer in 202620 Nov 202500:21:29

You’ve probably heard me talk a lot about niching into brand photography... and for good reason. It changed my business and my bookings. But today, we’re zooming out and talking about something I don’t cover nearly enough: what it looks like to simply add brand photography to the services you already offer.

Because here’s the truth: you don’t have to completely niche down to benefit from this work. And for so many photographers (weddings, families, seniors, interiors), adding brand photography in 2026 might be the smartest, most profitable move you make. In this episode, we’re breaking down why.

We're talking:

  • Why brand photography helps you avoid burnout
  • The income consistency brand photographers see year-round
  • The creative side of brand shoots
  • Which photographers transition beautifully into brand photography, and why
  • How your existing skill set probably already makes you perfect for this niche

Stop Posting Model Calls to Build Your Portfolio. Do This Instead.13 Nov 202500:15:05

If you’ve been trying to grow your brand photography portfolio, you’ve probably thought about posting a model call. But here’s the thing.. model calls can get messy. You lose control of the creative direction, it’s hard to attract the right kind of client, and suddenly you’re shooting something that doesn’t even align with the work you actually want to be known for.

In this episode, we’re talking about how to actually build your portfolio in a way that sets you up for paying clients and better sessions moving forward. I'm sharing my favorite strategy for staying in the driver’s seat and explaining how you can grow your portfolio while still getting paid (or at least still getting massive value).

We're talking:

  • Why model calls can do more harm than good for brand photographers
  • The difference between a model call and a portfolio-building session
  • How to stay in control of your creative direction (and still get your dream shots)
  • How to price your portfolio session so you don’t feel resentful
  • Why every shoot should pay you, whether it’s money or marketing

Working with a “Boring” Brand? Listen to This.06 Nov 202500:13:57

You’ve been doing the thing: showing up, marketing, documenting, staying visible... and it’s finally working! Engagement is up, DMs are rolling in, and you’re even getting inquiries.

But then you open one and think… “Ugh. This brand sounds so boring.”

In this episode, we’re diving into what to do when you get an inquiry from a brand that doesn’t seem exciting to photograph and how to reframe those “boring” brands into some of the most profitable, fulfilling work you’ll do.

We’re talking:

  • Why there’s no such thing as a boring brand
  • How to use storytelling and strategy to make any brand shoot interesting
  • The mindset shift from “uninspired” to “opportunity-rich”
  • Real-life examples (like dental offices!) and how to find the story within them
  • Why “boring” clients are often your most lucrative ones

By the end, you’ll see why the best brand photographers aren’t just camera pros; they’re creative directors and storytellers who can make any business shine.

What’s in My Gear Bag 202530 Oct 202500:20:59

You know those “what’s in my bag” peeks we all love? Same. I’m endlessly curious about how different photographers get similar results with totally different setups. And while I’m not a gearhead, I’ve learned what’s worth investing in for ease, speed, and consistency... without pretending you need every single shiny thing.

In this episode, I’m walking through my current brand-session kit, why I chose each piece, and how I keep lighting simple and flattering so my clients look like the best version of themselves. We’re diving into: what I actually bring to brand shoots in 2025, how I light (without drama), and the small add-ons that make big differences on set.

Episode highlights:

  • My camera + lens combo and why I switched to mirrorless
  • The zoom that replaced my prime-girl era and why it’s perfect for tight interiors
  • Flash philosophy: natural-looking light with Profoto A10s
  • Go-to modifiers and when I use each
  • Headshot vs. lifestyle setups, tethering and on-site workflow tips
  • Unsexy-but-essential extras
  • What’s on my wishlist to level up on-location

Documentation Marketing for Busy Seasons09 Oct 202500:18:19

It’s busy season. Your camera is glued to your hand, your editing queue is packed, and marketing? Yeah, that’s probably collecting dust.

But here’s the thing—what you post today is what fills your calendar tomorrow. If you tend to see a slowdown in bookings come December or January, it’s probably because your marketing fell off the map in September and October. It happens every year. But this time? You’re going to do it differently.

In this episode, I’m diving deep into a strategy I swear by: documentation marketing. It’s the easiest way to stay consistent on Instagram without creating content from scratch. If batching 30 days of content sounds like your personal nightmare (hi, same), this method is for you.

We’re talking:

  • The vicious visibility cycle (and how to break it)
  • Why documenting is more effective than creating
  • Simple, scroll-stopping content ideas you can capture in real time
  • How to build a content rhythm that works for your real life

Marketing doesn’t have to be overwhelming, and it definitely doesn’t have to stop just because you’re booked and busy. This episode will help you stay top of mind, even when you don’t have a ton of time.

#185: The Beliefs Holding You Back From Booking Clients on Instagram11 Sep 202500:22:53

I will never stop sharing my love for social media. Why? Because it’s one of the most powerful tools we have as business owners. And yet, so many photographers I work with are afraid of it. They worry about being vulnerable, about what showing up online says about them, and as a result, they hold back.

But here’s the truth: these limiting beliefs are keeping you from booking clients on Instagram. It doesn’t matter how solid your strategy is or how many content ideas you have—if you can’t work through these beliefs, you’ll struggle to see results.

In this episode, I’m breaking down the most common beliefs I hear (and have struggled with myself!) and how to start talking back to those scary voices in your head so you can finally use social media to connect with the right people and book more clients.

What you'll learn in this episode:

  • Why “nobody cares” and “I’m not that interesting” are lies you’re telling yourself
  • How practicing is the only way to get better at showing up online
  • Why your life doesn’t need to look perfectly aesthetic to attract clients
  • How to share what feels comfortable while still making genuine connections
  • Why “professionalism” doesn’t mean hiding who you are
  • The power of recognizing your red flag thoughts and shifting them into possibility
