49. The Real Reasons Your Podcast Pitches Get Ignored

Épisode 49

mardi 25 novembre 2025Durée 25:23

Have you been pitching to guest on podcasts but only getting crickets in return?

After 7 years of hosting two podcasts and receiving hundreds of pitches, I've seen exactly why some guests get an instant yes… and why others get an instant delete.

And it's rarely the reason people think.

In this episode, I'm sharing the real reasons pitches get ignored - the behind-the-scenes truths most hosts never actually say out loud - and the small shifts that make a huge difference.

Before we dive into that, I'm also talking about two visibility moments from the past couple of weeks that pushed me right out of my comfort zone:

• the vulnerable Instagram post I nearly didn't share

• and my first paid keynote to a room of senior leaders

… and what both reminded me about showing up even when it feels a bit scary.

In this episode, you'll learn:

- what hosts are actually looking for (it's not what you think)

- the sneaky red flags that make a pitch an automatic no

- how to make your pitch stand out before you've even written a word

- the simple way to get invited back again and again

If you want to start landing podcast guest spots - and doing it in a way that feels generous and human - this episode will show you how. Listen now and discover what really makes a podcast host say "yes".

48. Being Seen: The Truth About Women and Visibility at Work with Antonia Taylor

Épisode 48

mardi 4 novembre 2025Durée 01:00:56

What does it really mean to be seen? And why, even in 2025, does visibility still come with such a cost for so many women?

In this episode, I'm joined by Antonia Taylor, a PR and communications strategist who helps businesses amplify women's voices and build cultures where female leadership can thrive. She's also the author of the powerful white paper Being Seen: Women, Leadership and Visibility at Work, which was released just last month.

In this episode, we talk about:

  • The paradox of visibility  - how women are often overlooked when they stay quiet, yet criticised when they step into the spotlight.

  • Why playing small can be just as harmful to us as pushing too hard.

  • Why some people don't resonate with the term 'personal branding' and what they prefer instead

  • How to make visibility sustainable, with Antonia's practical tips from her contributors for building it into your everyday routine.

  • Why visibility is activism - how one woman showing up makes it safer for others to do the same.

  • How to "loop it through your heart" so your visibility feels authentic, not performative.

This is one of those conversations that stays with you long after you've listened - thoughtful, honest, and full of wisdom about showing up as your real self.

39. Why You Have More to Say Than You Think

mardi 10 juin 2025Durée 16:06

Do you ever sit down to write a post, email or blog and think, "I've got nothing new or interesting to say"?

If so, you're definitely not alone - but the truth is, you have so much more to say than you think!

In this solo episode, I'm talking about the belief that keeps so many brilliant business owners stuck and silent - and how to shift it.

I'm sharing practical strategies, mindset shifts, and a reminder that your voice, perspective and lived experience are valuable, even if it feels like "it's all been said before."

I also share why clarity makes content creation so much easier (and how my Uncover Your Magic course helps with exactly that), how to spot inspiration in your everyday life and how your visibility method might be the thing making you feel blocked.

If you've been staring at a blank page lately, wondering if your content even matters - this episode is for you.

In this episode, I talk about:
  • Why you do have something valuable to say - even when it feels like you don't

  • Where to find everyday content inspiration

  • The link between clarity and confidence in content creation

  • Why your content struggles might be about how you're showing up, not what you're saying

  • Practical ways to generate content ideas with less pressure

In this episode of Showing Up, I'm joined by the brilliant Jo Elvin - former editor-in-chief of Glamour magazine, broadcaster & consultant.

Jo launched Glamour in 2001 and turned it into the biggest-selling women's magazine in Europe, creating the iconic Glamour Women of the Year Awards, the Glamour Beauty Festival, and the podcast Hey, It's OK along the way.

We talk about her incredible career in media, including her time editing You magazine and as the CEO of charitiy, Children with Cancer UK.

Now she has a fantastic Substack newsletter My Goodness, brilliant fashion commentary on Instagram (if you haven't checked out #clothesmyhusbandhates, you need to), and a new chapter helping people grow in confidence with public speaking.

This is a funny, thoughtful and refreshingly honest conversation about what it really means to show up and be seen - at any stage of life.

We also go off on lots of tangents including when Miriam Margoyles stole her joke, going to a K-Pop concert and why we both love our Peloton bikes. Yes we cover a lot!

Épisode 37

mardi 13 mai 2025Durée 01:09:34

If you've ever felt like showing up in your business is exhausting or wondered why something as 'simple' as posting on social media can leave you feeling wiped out - you are not alone.

This week, for Mental Health Awareness Week, I'm joined by Dr. Bernadette Dancy, a stress management coach and nervous system educator, for a powerful conversation about how we can manage our stress more sustainably while continuing to show up with presence and purpose.

With over 15 years of experience studying the science and psychology of human potential, including a PhD in Sport Psychology, Bernadette brings a grounded, evidence-based approach to helping us understand our stress responses and build healthier ways of working.

We cover so much in this episode, including:

  • Why stress isn't something to avoid - but something be aware of and to recover from

  • Bernadette's powerful "stress bucket" analogy and how to spot when you're near the top

  • The difference between a healthy stretch and nervous system dysregulation

  • How to find your Individual Zone of Optimal Functioning and work in a way that feels right for you

  • The role of somatic tools and breathwork in calming your system before visibility moments

  • How to stay grounded when you're holding space for others

  • Why your nervous system might be more activated than you think - and how to track it with awareness, not judgement

This conversation is full of wisdom, science-backed insights, and practical tools to help you show up with more self-awareness, sustainability and self-compassion.

36. How visible do you really need to be in your business?

Épisode 36

vendredi 25 avril 2025Durée 14:02

Are you wondering if you should be showing up more in your business? Or maybe you're feeling overwhelmed by the pressure to be visible everywhere, all the time?

In this solo episode, I'm diving into the question I hear from so many clients: how visible do I actually need to be right now?

This episode will help you figure out whether you're in a season where you need to be stepping up your visibility or whether it's time to take the pressure off.

In this episode, I chat about:
  • How to know if you really need more visibility right now

  • Why your visibility strategy should align with your goals and capacity

  • My own visibility rhythm and why it's never been about posting daily

  • Why some of your most powerful visibility might be happening offline

  • How to build a rhythm that feels aligned and sustainable for you

You don't need to exhaust yourself trying to keep up with everyone else's visibility blueprints. Let this be your reminder that showing up is powerful, but it doesn't have to be exhausting.

Épisode 35

mardi 15 avril 2025Durée 01:08:47

I only discovered Ro Feilden-Cook on Instagram a few months ago, but I was immediately struck by the genuine, honest, and uplifting way she shows up - especially while navigating huge challenges in her life and business. I knew strraight away that I had to have her on the podcast.

Ro is a women's wellbeing expert and the founder of The She Collective, a holistic membership that supports women with strength-based movement, mindset tools, and nervous system care. Her mission is to help women take up more space -not less - without resorting to before-and-after culture or shame-based quick fixes.

In this episode, we talk about showing up online when things feel heavy, running a values-led business, the importance of community, and the personal cost of trying to do it all. Ro shares openly about the financial challenges her business has faced and the decision to be fully transparent with her members.

This conversation is warm, honest and human - one of those episodes that'll stay with you long after you've listened.

What We Talk About:

  • Sharing business struggles publicly - and what happened when she did

  • The importance of values in life and business

  • Concerns around weight loss injections and societal messaging

  • How to show up when your energy is low or life feels heavy

34. Making Bold Business Shifts and Fully Showing Up with Kelly Pietrangeli

Épisode 34

lundi 31 mars 2025Durée 46:01

In this inspiring episode, I'm joined by Kelly Pietrangeli  - soul mentor, retreat leader and podcast host. Kelly and I first met many years ago in the early days of our businesses, and it's been such a joy to witness her journey, especially as she's recently made a bold shift in her work.

Kelly shares how she pivoted from running a very practical business helping busy mothers to organize their lives, to stepping fully into a more spiritual path - or as she calls it, coming out of the "woo woo closet."

We talk about how scary it can feel to shift your business when you've built up a strong following and reputation, and how Kelly navigated this transition in an authentic and courageous way.

We also dive into:

  • Why Kelly found it easier to share vulnerable stories through her podcast

  • The mindset shifts Kelly had to make to fully embrace her new direction

  • The power of visibility and what it has done for Kelly's business and confidence

  • How Kelly overcame fears of judgment, including from people close to her

Towards the end of the episode, Kelly reflects on her time in my group visibility mastermind, SEEN, which I run once a year for a small group of just 5 business owners. I'll be opening the doors again in September. If you'd like to be the first to hear when it opens, join the waitlist at vickiknights.co.uk/mastermind.

33. How to Show Up without Feeling Like You're Showing Off

Épisode 33

mardi 18 mars 2025Durée 14:30

In this episode, I'm unpacking something I know many of you struggle with: the fear of showing off when you're trying to show up in your business.

If you've ever held back from putting yourself out there because you're worried people will think you're 'too much' or 'full of yourself,' this episode is for you.

I'm breaking down the key differences between showing up and showing off, how cultural conditioning has influenced our fears around visibility, and what you can do to confidently step into your space without feeling cringey about it.

In This Episode, I Cover:

 - Why so many of us have been conditioned to shrink ourselves and fear being 'too much'

- The key differences between showing up and showing off (with some movie references to help!)

- How to reframe visibility as an act of service rather than an ego boost

- Practical tips for showing up in a way that feels joyful and authentic

If you're ready to step into visibility in a way that feels great - this is your pep talk!
