Relationships are like a kaleidoscope — lots of little shapes in lots of colours that blend together in sometimes beautiful, sometimes uncomfortable ways. They’re complicated, with different personalities and different expectations, and for most of us, negotiating all of that is tough.

Ever wondered why your early relationship experiences tend to unfold similarly? This week on Reloscope: The Relationship Science Insights Podcast, host Marie Stella picks the brain of postdoctoral research fellow Marissa D. Nivison, Ph.D. to find out how attachment shapes our relationship beginnings.

Having received her Ph.D. in developmental psychology from the University of Minnesota, Marissa D. Nivison, Ph.D. currently researches childhood maltreatment at the University of Calgary. Together, Marie and Marissa D. Nivison, Ph.D. address the role of healing relationships in a change of attachment styles, from anxious or avoidant, to secure. So, tune in this week as we explore the fascinating world of attachment theory and its impact on the early stages of romantic relationships!

This week on Reloscope: The Relationship Science Insights Podcast, host Marie Stella is joined by Robert Weiss, Ph.D., LCSW to discuss the notion of ‘prodependence’ rather than codependence.

Cynthia Flores: The Power of Self-Worth — Overcoming Codependency in Love | Reloscope #55

Épisode 57

jeudi 20 juin 2024Durée 44:44

This week on Reloscope: The Relationship Science Insights Podcast, host Marie Stella sits down with first-generation Latina therapist, coach, and speaker, Cynthia Flores, to discuss the role of self-worth in overcoming codependency in romantic relationships.

As a daughter to immigrant parents in California, Cynthia has had similar experiences as her client base, leading her to be highly empathetic in her practice. Through her career, she aims to empower BIPOC groups to heal from their past traumas, alongside guiding them through work and life in general.

In this episode, Cynthia posits that overcoming codependency in a romantic relationship without breaking up is possible, sharing her firm belief that therapeutic relationships are far more beneficial for our healing than isolation. Together, Marie and Cynthia delve into how self-worth contributes to healing, and identify the necessary steps toward this path.

So, whether you’re questioning codependency in your relationship, or simply want to learn more about how to improve your self-worth, this episode promises to be eye-opening.
