Aaron’s passion in life is trying to help influence how large complex businesses can function better. He is a public policy professional, with particular interest in planning, futures, technology governance and organisation of complex systems. Outside work he has published poetry, teaches multi-disciplinary university courses on policy and leadership, and volunteers in community building, inter-faith dialogue and youth development. Aaron shares his views and insights on data, insights, technology at large and some of the threats they can pose to society on a geopolitical level. How do we regulate tech in a responsible way without eliminating the advantages it presents? Aaron generously shares his foresight observations in this episode - governments take note.

Continuing on from our previous episode with Ricardo, we sit down with two more UNICEF fellows, Norhan and Iman, who co-created the Youth Future Foresights Playbook. Both share some great insights into the challenge of putting such a mammoth project together and how diverse perspectives of youth in North Africa and Sub Saharan Africa are incorporated. This groundbreaking initiative has been created to build youth engagement capacities, to find tangible opportunities for meaningful youth engagement, and to inspire young people. It is also intended for those who work with young people, to not only embrace foresight methods and tools but to make them accessible, thereby fostering a collaborative environment where youth are engaged as equal partners in shaping all our futures.

Johanna Hoffman is a designer, urbanist and strategist exploring the ties between design, planning, fiction, and futures. She is also the founder of Design for Adaptation, a studio using strategic planning, interactive storytelling and speculative design to survey the impacts of potential futures and spur proactive adaptation. In this episode we learn about the work she does with other firms, implementing foresight assessment, futures research, story and strategy to help people, cities and organisations understand what future changes mean for them, and develop actionable plans in response. Johanna has been exploring what cities in 2075 could and should look like with consideration of environmental and social needs now and in the future.

We sit down with Hazza Al Mansouri, the first Emirati astronaut to reach space. In 2019, he embarked on the UAE's first scientific mission to the International Space Station (ISS). The mission carried the slogan 'Zayed's Ambition' making the UAE the 19th country worldwide, and the first country in the Arab region, to travel to the ISS. During our discussion, Hazza shares with us his journey to becoming an astronaut. From starting as a jet pilot and wanting to higher and further into space and how he was selected out of thousands of applicants. Hazza is an inspiration to so many and is another example of how the UAE continues to break boundaries, on earth and in space, proving that all dreams can become a reality.
