Recapping Virginia Tech vs. Minnesota, Previewing the CFP Semifinals

mercredi 8 janvier 2025Durée 01:01:52

In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back to recap the Duke's Mayo Bowl where Virginia Tech faced off against Minnesota. Head coach PJ Fleck was doused with mayonnaise after the Golden Gophers took down the Hokies 24-10 in Charlotte. The guys then preview both games from the College Football Playoff Semifinals, where Ohio State takes on Texas and Penn State faces off against Notre Dame. There is the potential to be an all-Big Ten finals in the first ever expanded CFP, as the Buckeyes are nearly a touchdown favorite over the Longhorns and the Nittany Lions are a 1.5 point underdog to the Fighting Irish. After a week zero taste, Pac-12 football is fully back with 12 week one games to preview and pick

jeudi 31 août 2023Durée 01:52:06

In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio talking about the first real week of Pac-12 football with the entire Conference of Champions in action with a variety of out of conference games. Last week we got a little taste of Pac-12 football with USC taking care of business against San Jose State. This week we get a lot more excitement starting on Thursday night when the Florida Gators make the trip to Salt Lake City to take on the Utah Utes. Kenny Dillingham also gets his head coaching career started on Thursday night when the Sun Devils host Southern Utah. On Friday Stanford takes an interesting road trip to take on Hawaii, a team that fought hard in their week zero loss to Vanderbilt. Then on Saturday we have some cupcake games but also a few interesting contests including Colorado at TCU, Boise State at Washington, California visiting (!!!) North Texas and Washington State at (!!!) Colorado State. Opening weekend wraps up with a Sunday afternoon showdown with Oregon State visiting San Jose State. The Beavers should be great this season but this one is on the road, SJSU has already played a game and was within a touchdown against USC in the Coliseum. The guys also discuss some of the other news and notes from around the conference including the bizarre self imposed postseason ban by Arizona State athletic director Ray Anderson and the Bay Area schools' efforts to join the ACC. As usual Ryan and Dave end the podcast answering listener emails and questions from the YouTube chat. DON'T FORGET TO ENTER YOUR PAC-12 SURVIVAL POOL PICKS HERE!!! USC hires Jen Cohen from UW, picking every Pac-12 football game for 2023 plus our week zero preview

mardi 22 août 2023Durée 01:39:55

In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio talking about actual Pac-12 football as we are just days away from the kickoff of the 2023 college football season. Before the start of each Pac-12 football campaign Ryan and Dave go through the entire schedule and document their picks for each program in the Conference of Champions, including the eventual winner in Las Vegas. They also begin their game previews and picks against the spread in this episode (with only week zero game on the schedule), San Jose State visiting USC on Saturday night. The show starts off with the breaking news that USC has hired away Jennifer Cohen from Washington to become the Trojans new athletic director. It should be an exciting final season in the Pac-12 with as many as six teams in the mix to win the last Conference of Champions championship. On paper the Pac-12 appears to have an upper class and a middle class and it will be interesting to see if any of those lower ranked teams are able to jump up and derail the season for the programs in the upper half of the standings. Ryan and Dave reveal which teams they are believing in and which teams they think are the bottom dwellers in the conference as they reveal their game by game picks and prediction for regular season records. For week zero there is only one Pac-12 program in action, the USC Trojans. Reigning Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams leads the way against San Jose State at 5pm Saturday night in the Coliseum. The guys give their pick against the 30.5 point spread and start their season long contest of game picking prowess. Part two of our Pac-12 football previews including UW, Oregon and Utah

jeudi 17 août 2023Durée 02:13:01

In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio and once again trying very hard to not talk about conference realignment. Next weekend we have actual football with USC hosting San Jose State in week zero plus Utah welcoming Florida to Salt Lake City and Arizona State facing Southern Utah on Thursday, August 31. To honor the long awaited start to the 2023 college football season (and the final one for the Pac-12 conference as we know it), we are continuing with our team season previews. Last week we previewed USC, UCLA, Arizona , Arizona State, Colorado and Oregon State so this week we will focus on Oregon, Utah, Washington, Washington State, Stanford and California hearing from the 247Sports publishers of their respective sites. The guys also go over some of the other news and notes from around the conference including the newly released AP Poll that includes USC (6), Washington (10), Utah (14), Oregon (15) and Oregon State (18) with UCLA also receiving some votes. As usual Ryan and Dave end the podcast answering listener emails and questions from the YouTube chat. For the video simulcasts of our POC please subscribe to your YouTube channel! Part one of our Pac-12 football previews (actual football talk)

jeudi 10 août 2023Durée 01:52:43

In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio and NOT talking about conference realignment (well, maybe a little). With the opening weekend of the 2023 college football season just a couple of weeks away the guys jump right in with their Pac-12 previews. For months all of the focus has been on the pending demise of the Pac-12 conference, which finally came to fruition last week. But the last year of the Conference of Champions should be an epic one, with half the conference having a legit shot at winning the title, several of the top quarterbacks in the country and three exciting new coaches including Coach Prime in Colorado. This week the focus is on previewing the Arizona Wildcats, Arizona State Sun Devils, Colorado Buffaloes, Oregon State Beavers, USC Trojans and the UCLA Bruins. After the previews the guys talk about the latest rumors surrounding Cal and Stanford potentially going to the ACC, what could happen with Washington State and Oregon State and the newly released preseason coaches poll. Also, does commissioner George Kliavkoff have a future with the entity formerly known as the Conference of Champions? As usual Ryan and Dave end the podcast answering listener emails and questions from the YouTube chat. For the video simulcasts of our POC please subscribe to your YouTube channel! EMERGENCY Podcast of Champions - RIP to the premier athletic conference on the West Coast

samedi 5 août 2023Durée 02:00:13

In another special EMERGENCY episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back discussing the sad and disappointing news that the Pac-12, the premier athletic conference on the West Coast for more than 100 years, is dead. The Conference of Champions was listing for the past 13 months after it's hull was breached by the USC and UCLA defection torpedoes. There was a path to save the ship but commissioner George Kliavkoff seemingly made the situation worse at every turn, allowing for the final death blow from Oregon and Washington on Friday followed by Arizona, Arizona State and Utah getting off the sinking ship thanks to a Big 12 life raft. The guys talk about this shocking development that comes just two weeks after the commissioner assured the college football world on Pac-12 Media Day that everything was going to alright. It wasn't and it wasn't close. Now we have to wait and see what happens with the remaining four members, Stanford, California, Oregon State and Washington State, who are unfortunate casualties in the conference realignment madness. The rumored Pac-12 media rights deal & more potential Big Ten expansion

jeudi 3 août 2023Durée 01:25:08

In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio talking about the reported new Pac-12 media rights deal that commissioner George Kliavkoff presented to the remaining nine presidents and chancellors. According to reports the top deal on the table is heavy into streaming with Apple TV carrying the majority of the games with a separate Pac-12 package that would be available for purchase. The reported revenue is below what the Big 12 has with ESPN and Fox, but there are revenue boosters that kick in when more fans subscribe. There is also multiple reports that the Big Ten is looking to expand further with their sights set on Oregon and Washington with the possibility of adding Stanford and California as well. Clemson and Florida State were also mentioned, but both of those programs are locked up for years with the ACC's grant of rights deal.
