It used to be better, of course, it did. In the golden age of the High Republic, when there was enough to eat and enough hope, when people could lift their eyes and see beyond the horizon, beyond the day. Children were born happy and grew up rich.

Now that’s not what we’ve got. Now we’ve got Jakku.

A harsh desert world, Jakku is a lawless place that’s home to thieves, outlaws, and refugees. During the final years of the Galactic Civil War, Jakku was the site of a secret Imperial research base and served as a jumping-off point for warships heading into the Unknown Regions. The Empire made a last stand above the frontier planet, leading to a pitched battle between rebel and Imperial fleets. Jakku’s sandy wastes are now littered with gigantic wrecks, and newly created townships are full of desperate scavengers who head into the desert searching for parts that can be salvaged and sold.

And you, who are you? This is what we’ve got, yes. What are you going to make of it?

We learn more about our protagonists and take on a mission in this first play session of a new playset for Girl by Moonlight. We see their dormitory and peek in on a class where an experiment has gone wrong. They're informed by the headmaster that their Order, Akhtar, is responsible for arranging an upcoming dance. But even while doing that and homework, they look into the strangeness with Malbrect, leading them to confront a student who has dredged up forbidden motion magics.

Our protagonists have been drafted into a school of magic which is trying to change, manipulate, and even destroy them. When they came of age, they found themselves whisked away to The School. They were thrown into a world of arcane knowledge, strange alliances, unresponsive staff, and dangerous facilities. Soon our protagonists noticed they could see things others could not: people with memories changed, deadly challenges others didn’t acknowledge, and vanishings which went unremarked and unremembered.

Now, as our protagonists enter into their second year, they’ve come to realize the school itself is a trap and a machine for some unknown purpose. They have determined to rescue those students targeted by the school and uncover the secrets of this place. But they must do this while keeping up their studies and avoiding the attention of the staff, teachers, and other entities.

The protagonists encounter not one but two unexploded spell bombs which have landed on a religious site. The situations complicated by a secondary defense magic which animates corpses in the crypt, endangering those who took shelter in the catacombs. While they deal with both bombs, the also discover evidence of a dark conspiracy. In the aftermath, the group works to put on a play to rally support form the locals.

Jort reveals the contents of the sealed container the crew are smuggling from Xolia to the city-ship 'Zalea' in the Ceti Rho system. Quite why The True Path should want small arms to reach the Zalea is unclear, but money is money! Dr Bransom uses his false credentials to pull rank on arrival and the crew enjoy a sucessful shore leave after a rather fractious Ring Gate transit. Pleasant proposes a plan to Bryz, while he finds a couple of job opportunities. There's a suspicious deep space station running dark, a connection to the Jihun family, and a cunning plan to neutralise a Sword Brother ship ... then an offer the Brotherhood can't really refuse ...
