Evil Dead Is the Name and Dead Is the Game | The Last Call

jeudi 26 juin 2025Durée

This was a frustrating experience. My first thought after booting up Evil Dead: The Game was, "Wow, this is prettier than I was expecting," followed immediately by, "Damn, I wish this was just a normal-ass single-player game. As I played the tutorials and eventually a handful of games, my disappointment and sadness only grew as the tutorial did a poor job of preparing me for a real match. Even once I started to "get it," I still wished Evil Dead: The Game was a single-player game instead of a live-service game; however, a live-service game it is (or was) and as many do, like the name of the game, this one is dead.

Need for Speed Unbound Review | The Most Frustrating Need for Speed Game I've Ever Played

mercredi 25 juin 2025Durée

I've played many a Need for Speed game, but not one has frustrated me as much as Need for Speed Unbound. It may have a great sense of style and take place in a fictionalized version of my hometown--a not-so-great take on Chicago--but that's not enough to make up for its annoying structure, frustrating race design, and cheap AI. It also shouldn't come as a surprise that the story is shit, but I doubt anyone was expecting a great story in their racing game. Long story short, the fun was unfound in Need for Speed Unbound.

MultiVersus Was a Waste of IP | The Last Call

jeudi 22 mai 2025Durée

A combination of uninspired gameplay and a completely bonkers handling of its release are just two of the factors that led to MultiVersus wasting a treasure trove of IP; add a poor microtransaction structure and spotty server connectivity on top of that and you've got a recipe for disaster, and a disaster is exactly what MultiVersus was. It's a shame, too, because with better gameplay and a better handling of its great cast of characters, MultiVersus had the potential to be one of the few live service success stories, but alas, a success story it was not.

A Tale of Two Games: An Anguish-Filled Vanquish Review | Attack the Backlog

dimanche 22 mai 2022Durée

On this episode of Attack the Backlog, I slide my way through an average game before discovering the game I played is completely different from the game others have played, except the only way to know it's different is by being told it's different. Why? Because the game itself tells you nothing. Confused? Welcome to the club--the, "I played Vanquish, but I didn't really play Vanquish" club--it's quite crowded in here and y'all know how I feel about crowds, so hopefully this episode helps you realize what Vanquish really is before you start playing it yourself, lest you end up like me and annoyed that what you played in a far cry from what others have played.

Just 'Cause 3's My Favorite Number Doesn't Mean Just Cause 3's My Favorite Game | Attack the Backlog

dimanche 8 mai 2022Durée

On this episode of Attack the Backlog, I blow up everything but dolls in Just Cause 3, a game where you cause mayhem and destruction...just 'cause. This marks a first for Attack the Backlog. This is the first time I've ever gone back into my backlog to finish an old save, instead of restarting a game from the beginning (if it's something I've played before, but never finished). I won't go into further detail here--I have to leave some reason for you to check out the episode (in case my sultry voice isn't enough on its own)--but I will say I 100% made the right decision in choosing to continue my old save instead of starting a new one (and no, not just 'cause).

How Returnal Went From an All-Time Great to a Game I’d Only Casually Date | Attack the Backlog

dimanche 24 avril 2022Durée

On this episode of Attack the Backlog, I go on a roller coaster of love to like with Returnal, a third-person roguelite shooter that takes a lot inspiration from shmups and successfully translates it to a 3D environment. The gameplay is sublime, but because of the way it's structured, the game doesn't respect your time. What could have been one of my favorite games of all-time is, instead, just a game I liked and, well, that's fine.

I Thought Going Commando Was Supposed to Be One of the Good Ones | Attack the Backlog

dimanche 10 avril 2022Durée

On this episode of Attack the Backlog, I return to the world of Ratchet & Clank with Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando. I went in with the highest of expectations and left with the saddest of realizations: I, maybe, don't like Ratchet & Clank. I loved the original game when I played it so many years ago and loved the reboot/remake, but, until now, those were the only Ratchet & Clank games I've played. Going Commando was my return to a series I thought I'd continue loving; however, what I found was a game more interested in quantity over quality. This hasn't killed my interest in playing other Ratchet & Clank games, mind you, but it has stunted the growth of any potential excitement in playing more games in the series. At least for the time being.

Ghost of Tsushima is Delicious Like Ma's Sushi, Man | Attack the Backlog

dimanche 27 mars 2022Durée

On this episode of Attack the Backlog, watch as I duel and reviewel my way through the beautiful forests and valleys of Ghost of Tsushima, a game where you play as a samurai fighting against tradition in order to bring freedom and peace to Japan. If that sounds like your jam, I can't recommend it highly enough. I may sound negative at times in the review, but my experience was unique as outside influences affected me more than usual. Despite all that, I still had a great time, adding yet another win for Sony's secret best studio. Ghost of Tsushima originally came out on July 17, 2020 for PlayStation 4 and has since been released on PlayStation 5.

Call of Juarez: The What the Hell Were They Thinking One | Attack the Backlog

dimanche 13 mars 2022Durée

On this episode of Attack the Backlog, Marc puts on their best Obama mask and gets high as a kite while burning fields of dreams in Call of Juarez: The Cartel, the kind of dreams that only weed can make true, especially when playing a game that's worst that poo. The Cartel is a bad game in so many ways and the kind of game that leaves you constantly asking why as you play. Call of Juarez: The Cartel originally came out on July 19, 2011, for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with a PC release a few months after that. Marc played the Xbox 360 version of the game on an Xbox Series X via backward compatibility and highly recommends not doing the same.

Tentacles May Suck, But Octodad Most Certainly Does Not | Attack the Backlog

lundi 28 février 2022Durée

On this episode of Attack the Backlog, Marc stays sweet and wholesome instead of tying hens while tentacling some holes, son, in Octodad: Dadliest Catch, a game where you play as an octopus who marries a human woman with two human children (who are never explained) and has a penchant for making a mess wherever he goes, delightfully so. Octodad originally came out on January 30, 2014, for PC and later made his way to everything else, from PS4 and Xbox One, to iOS and Android, and even the Vita and Wii U, before retiring to spend the rest of his days with his family on the Switch.
