Melissa Chee is an accomplished leader with over 20 years of deep tech expertise and a proven track record of growing successful start-ups and global companies.

Melissa is the President and CEO of ventureLAB, a leading global founder community for hardware technology and enterprise software companies. Under Melissa’s leadership, ventureLAB launched the Hardware Catalyst Initiative, Canada’s only lab and incubator for hardware and semiconductor-focused start-ups and scale-ups and is a founding member and Vice-Chair of Canada’s Semiconductor Council.

Prior to joining ventureLAB, Melissa led New Initiatives at a major division of Constellation Software, one of Canada’s largest publicly traded enterprise software companies. Previously, as the Executive Officer responsible for Product, Operations, and Marketing at a publicly-traded, Canadian-founded semiconductor company, Melissa headed global supply chain operations, product management, and corporate marketing where the company’s products were designed into major consumer brands including LG, Panasonic, Samsung and Facebook. In this capacity, Melissa played an important role in the company’s transition to public listing on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Melissa started her career at Nortel, one of Canada’s largest telecommunications multinationals at the time, where she held roles in product management, marketing, and systems engineering.

She has held numerous board positions through national and community impact organizations and is a passionate advocate for innovation in Canada to advance our nation’s global competitiveness, technology commercialization, and women in STEM. Melissa holds an MBA from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Engineering from McGill University.

Anastasia Barbuzzi is a journalist and the creator/host of the podcast $HMONEY Radio. $HMONEY makes financial literacy approachable, attainable, and fun to talk about for millennial women. An open, inclusive, and judgment-free zone that promotes the idea of educating yourself to empower yourself, $HMONEY is a safe place to discuss money matters without guilt or shame. $HMONEY Radio has now been listened to in over 300 cities and 38 countries worldwide, and the show is available on multiple podcast directories.

Anastasia’s path to founding $HMONEY started with her graduation from Toronto’s Ryerson University as a Journalism major. Her strong admiration for and fascination with print from the time she was a little girl led her to pursue a career in print media, and she soon became the Digital Editor of STYLE Canada. Her freelance career has taken her from being a lifestyle and shopping writer for Yahoo and a regular contributor to publications such as VITA Daily, Mode Show News, Style Democracy, Edit Seven, YogiApproved, and Fitt (Detroit). In 2018, she worked under FASHION Magazine’s beauty director as a freelance writer as well. Today she is the Managing Editor of Honest Brand Reviews, in addition to her work with $HMONEY.

043: Robyn Paxton - That Plumber Chick

Robyn is 25 years old and started plumbing two years ago and has worked for two plumbing companies since the beginning of her career. The company she currently works for has about 40 employees, with her being the only girl aside from the women who work in the office. She had done many different types of jobs since joining the workforce, and finally found plumbing by accident, but it ended up being a job she loves. She is currently doing online school because of covid for her second year and is about halfway through the course.

042: Amanda Sotille - Founder of Haven & Co, an Inclusive Jewelry line

Amanda is currently in the third year of her undergraduate degree studying kinesiology and physical education at the University of Toronto.

She works at a conductive education school for youth with cerebral palsy and other motor conditions where they integrate the Ontario curriculum with the physical therapy needs of each child, as well she is working with a professor at UofT to find ways to foster quality participation and make playgrounds more socially inclusive for kids with disabilities. On top of this, she has a placement at a non-profit and started her own business.

She really wanted to merge her love of cute accessories and her passion for helping individuals with disabilities, so she started creating necklaces with the option of adding a magnetic clasp for individuals that struggle with fine motor skills.

"I know putting on a necklace is a small thing, but I hope to help people gain a sense of independence and change the way we think about inclusivity and fashion. My goal is to make the world a little more inclusive, one necklace at a time."

Avery is 16 years old and a grade 11 student.

She is in her first year of 2 with the WECDSB construction academy and will be doing a co-op with Blain Carpentry in February and will be completing an apprenticeship this summer. 

After attending a Build a Dream event in early grade 9, she became intrigued with the skilled trades and was part of the first group of Build a Dream's #HerPower Skills Workshop as well is a #HerPower Tools Winner.

Shaun Hintz is the assistant general manager at Magna’s Engineered Glass Division in Holland, Michigan. In this role, she leads 1,000 employees in two facilities and supports a $300-million business portfolio. Her team is focused on the innovation of new production lines, operational excellence and continuous improvement. 

Ms. Hintz chairs Magna’s Women’s eXchange, a resource community that promotes an inclusive environment enabling women to advance their skills and leadership potential. 

Prior to joining Magna in 2014, Ms. Hintz worked for Tier 1 automotive companies in engineering and account-management roles. She also owned and operated two non-automotive startup companies while raising her young children. 

She is a graduate of Michigan State University’s College of Engineering and earned an MBA from Wayne State University. She is an active member of her community in western Michigan, where she coaches youth athletic teams and volunteers in her local schools.
