| Ep 32. 5 Foundations for Teen Mental Health & Wellbeing | 25 Mar 2026 | 00:31:47 | |
In this episode, I’m diving into five foundational areas that have a powerful impact on your teen’s mental health and overall well-being. These aren’t complicated or groundbreaking ideas, but they’re the things that often get overlooked in the busyness of everyday life or avoided because they can feel like a constant battle. And just to be clear, this isn’t about perfection. I don’t know any teen (or adult) who has all of these dialed in perfectly. What we’re aiming for is high standards with high support, helping our teens move in the right direction one small step at a time. ✨ What I Cover in This Episode:

| Ep 31. Why Does My Teenager Shutdown When I'm Just Trying to Help, and What to Do Instead. | 18 Mar 2026 | 00:36:43 | |
Today, I'm sitting down with Sonia Suthar, a 19-year-old entrepreneur and the Founder of Cloud 9, who is helping parents understand why teenagers shut down when we're just trying to help, and what we can do instead to build strong, connected relationships with them. She also shares how we can help our teens build confidence from the inside out, so this conversation is one you won't want to miss! In this episode, we explore what’s really happening beneath teen behavior and why well-meaning parental responses can sometimes create distance instead of connection. Sonia offers powerful insights into how teens interpret boundaries, advice, and even simple questions and how these moments can either strengthen or erode trust. Whether you’re parenting a teen now or just want to understand them better, this conversation offers real, actionable insights that can help you strengthen connections, trust, and resilience in your family. | Ep. 27: The Number One Way to Increase Influence and Connection with Your Teen: Respect | 18 Feb 2026 | 00:26:09
In this episode, I break down what respect really looks like during adolescence, why it matters so deeply, and how we can lead our teens with both firmness and dignity. When teens feel dismissed, talked down to, or controlled, their brains go into defense mode. But when they feel respected, they’re far more likely to stay open, honest, and cooperative even when the conversation is hard. So often, we fall into the mindset that respect is something our teen has to earn. But the truth is, with teenagers, respect is often the fastest way to rebuild connection and increase influence. | Ep. 26: The Control Shift That Changes Everything With Teens: What You Can Control vs What You Can’t | 11 Feb 2026 | 00:18:02
I’m sharing a simple but powerful shift that can completely change your relationship with your teenager: learning what’s actually in your control and what isn’t. When your teen is shutting down, acting out, bringing attitude home, or struggling with motivation, it’s so easy to fall into the trap of trying to control their behavior in the heat of the moment. But the truth is, the more we try to control what we can’t, the more disconnected and overwhelmed we feel. In this conversation, I break down how focusing on your own response instead of your teen’s emotions is where your real influence and leadership live. This episode is for parents navigating:
We’ll discuss the Circle of Control (inspired by Stephen Covey), the power of co-regulation, and what it truly means to “Let Them” (from Mel Robbins) without letting everything slide. If you’ve been feeling stuck, reactive, or exhausted, this episode will remind you that the most powerful thing you can do is return to what you can control: your own nervous system, your boundaries, and your next move. | Ep. 16: Is Your Teen Unmotivated? Here’s What’s REALLY Going On | 03 Dec 2025 | 00:10:17
If it feels like you’re constantly pushing your teen to do homework, clean their room, plan for college, or even just get out of bed, you are so not alone. In today’s episode, I’m breaking down a truth I wish every parent knew: It's not that your teen isn't motivated; they’re just not motivated by the things you want them to be. There are real developmental, psychological, and neurological reasons behind this, and when you understand what’s actually going on underneath that “I don’t care” attitude, everything shifts. Today I walk you through the three key factors that shape teen motivation and the practical ways you can support your teen in building their own authentic drive. What you'll learn: 1. Your Teen Isn’t Motivated by Your Goals — And That’s Normal: I talk about why the tasks adults value (grades, chores, future planning) often feel meaningless to teens, and how giving them space to name their own goals leads to real motivation and follow-through. 2. The Teen Brain Is Wired for “Now,” Not “Later”: I explain how the still-developing prefrontal cortex and the fully activated reward system shape your teen’s decision-making. When you understand this, you can work with their brain rather than against it. 3. “Laziness” Often Masks Overwhelm or Discouragement: I break down why procrastination, shutdown, or avoidance can actually be signs of stress or self-doubt — not a lack of care — and what to do when your teen feels stuck. How You Can Support Your Teen’s Motivation In this episode, I share four strategies you can start using right away:

| Ep 40. The Confidence Breakthrough Your Teen Needs More Than Ever: A 4-Step Framework | 27 May 2026 | 00:33:34 | |
If you've been watching your teen struggle with anxiety, low motivation, or a lack of direction and wondering what you can actually do to help, this episode is for you. I'm sharing the full framework I normally teach inside my workshops so you can access it right here, for free. This is not about quick fixes or surface-level advice. It's about understanding what's really going on beneath the behavior and giving your teen the tools they need to build genuine, lasting confidence. What I cover in this episode: Why confidence, motivation, and emotional regulation are skills that can be learned, not fixed personality traits your teen is stuck with What's really driving the behaviors you're seeing at home and why addressing the root cause changes everything The four-step coaching framework I use with every teen and young adult client in my programs The Four-Step Framework: Step 1: Dreams, Purpose, and Passion When teens connect with a personal vision and what genuinely lights them up, they shift from feeling stuck to feeling excited about what's possible. Step 2: Thoughts, Mindset, and Focus Your teen's thoughts, mindset, and where they place their attention shape their entire experience. I walk through how to help them challenge unhelpful thinking and focus on what they can actually control. Step 3: Feel, Process, and Express Most teens have big feelings and no idea what to do with them. This step is about building emotional fluency so your teen can name what they're feeling, move through it, and express it in healthy ways. Step 4: Regulate, Reset, and Rise Up When teens don't know how to calm their nervous system, even small challenges can feel overwhelming. | Ep. 11: How to Support Your Teen Without Getting Pulled Under | 29 Oct 2025 | 00:33:50
Parenting teens can feel like an emotional rollercoaster. When they’re anxious, stressed, or hurting, we feel it too. Our hearts are right there in the storm with them — which makes sense, because we love them so deeply. But sometimes that love and empathy can pull us under, leaving us exhausted, reactive, or even anxious ourselves. In this episode, I’m sharing what I’ve learned about how to support your teen without getting pulled under and how to stay loving, present, and connected without carrying all of their emotions as your own. I’ll walk you through six key ideas that have helped me (and so many of the parents I work with) find steadiness in those intense moments when our teens are struggling. We’ll talk about how to stop absorbing your teen’s emotions, what it really means to hold space for your teen, and how to care deeply without losing yourself in the process. ✨ 1. Don’t jump in the pool. ✨ 2. Strengthen your foundation. ✨ 3. Hold space instead of fixing. ✨ 4. Be okay with hard emotions. ✨ 5. Validate without absorbing. ✨ 6. Model steadiness. 💬 In this episode, you’ll learn:
🌿 Action Step: Instead of trying to apply everything at once, choose one of these practices that feels the most challenging or the most needed for you right now — and try it out in one real moment with your teen this week. Maybe it’s taking a breath before you respond, listening before you fix, or letting their emotions flow without rushing to contain them. Just one small shift can create ripple effects of calm and connection. 💛 Let’s stay connected: If this episode resonated with you, I’d love for you to:

| Ep. 9: How to Stop Yelling at Your Teen (and Actually Stay Calm) | 22 Oct 2025 | 00:44:41 | |
In this episode, I’m talking about something that doesn’t get said enough: we can’t just send our teens to coaching or therapy and expect everything to change if we aren’t willing to do the work, too. Real, lasting change doesn’t happen in isolation—it happens in the family system. When we, as parents, start learning how to regulate our own emotions, shift old patterns, and show up differently, we create the safety and stability our teens need to grow and heal. It’s just as important for us to do our own inner work as it is for them to get support, because that’s how true transformation happens—together. I’ll also share my own story of moving from reactive and overwhelmed to grounded and calm, and what that shift did for me, my relationships, and the overall energy in my home. If you’ve ever caught yourself yelling, slamming a door, or saying something you later regretted, this episode is for you. Here’s What I Talk About

| Ep. 8: Why Following Your Own Dreams Makes You a Better Parent | 15 Oct 2025 | 00:16:32 | |
This week, I’m sharing something that’s been on my heart after an incredibly full (and honestly, exhausting) week — a reminder that one of the best things we can do for our kids isn’t actually about them… it’s about us. In this episode, I talk about how following our own dreams and passions doesn’t just make us happier — it gives our teens permission to live boldly too. I share what happened when I finally stopped pushing through exhaustion, took time to reset, and reconnected with the things that bring me joy — like beadwork, nature, and creating. We explore:
It’s a heartfelt reminder that our kids learn how to live by watching us live — not just how we handle emotions or responsibilities, but how we experience joy, creativity, and purpose. If this episode resonates, I’d love for you to share it with another parent who might need this reminder too. | Ep 39. You're on Fire, It's Fine, with Katie K. May | 21 May 2026 | 00:41:22
In today's episode, I have a special treat for you. Today I'm talking to Katie K. May, therapist, author, and founder of a therapy practice in the greater Philadelphia area that supports teens and families. Katie is also a board-certified self-harm specialist, and she wrote the book "You're On Fire, It's Fine: Effective Strategies for Parenting Teens with Self-Destructive Behaviors." This conversation was so good, and I know you're going to get so much out of it. In this episode, we talk about: What it means to be a "fire feeler" and why some teens experience emotions like an internal explosion that takes over everything, as well as why it's rooted in biology and not a character flaw What's actually happening in a teen's nervous system when they shut down and go to their room, and why pushing harder as a parent tends to backfire The transactional model of behavior and how the changes a parent makes on their own, even without their teen in therapy, can start shifting the patterns at home right away Why judgment-based labels like "manipulative" or "oppositional" can inadvertently reinforce the very behaviors we want to change, and what to do instead The difference between reactive punishment and natural consequences, and how to hold teens accountable in a way that actually teaches something What self-harm is communicating about a teen's internal world, why it works physiologically to calm the nervous system down, and how parents can respond in a way that keeps the door open rather than driving the behavior underground The "circle of support" concept and why it's so important for parents to look outward for their own support rather than leaning on their teen to be okay so that they can feel okay What DBT gives teens that other approaches don't I finished Katie's book the morning of this interview and I cannot recommend it enough. It is a quick read, it is practical, and it gave me so much language for things I've felt but couldn't always articulate in my own work with teens and parents. Whether your teen is in crisis or you just want to show up better in your relationship with them, this book is for you. Go find Katie and her book, read it, and share it with every parent you know who is in the thick of it. IG: @katiekmay
| Ep. 3: Setting Boundaries with Your Teen without Constant Conflict | 09 Sep 2025 | 00:15:09 | |
Setting boundaries with our teens can feel like walking a tightrope — one wrong move and the whole thing can spiral into arguments, resentment, or total shutdown. But here’s the truth: boundaries don’t have to create distance. In fact, when done well, they strengthen your connection. In this episode, I’m sharing practical tools and real-life examples to help you set healthy boundaries with your teen while keeping trust and respect intact. We’ll talk about when to hold firm, when to let things go, and how to include your teen’s voice in the process so they feel heard — not controlled. If you’ve been feeling like you’re constantly walking on eggshells or fighting the same battles over and over, this episode will give you a fresh perspective and tools you can start using today.
