Ep 43. The Science of Confidence: How Thoughts Create Results for You and Your Teen
Épisode 43
mercredi 17 juin 2026 • Durée 33:54
In this episode, I explore how our thoughts shape our emotions, behaviors, and ultimately the results we create in our lives. Drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), neuroscience, and real-life examples, I share practical tools that parents and teens can use to break free from negative thought patterns, build confidence, reduce anxiety, and create a more empowered mindset.
Whether you're parenting a teenager, coaching young people, or working through your own challenges, this episode will help you understand how changing your thoughts can transform the way you experience life.
What You'll Walk Away With:
- What Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is and why it's so effective
- The TEB Cycle: How Thoughts → Emotions → Behaviors → Results
- How neuroplasticity allows the brain to rewire itself through intentional thinking
- Why teenagers have a unique advantage when it comes to mindset development
- Lessons from Olympic champion Eileen Gu on mental performance and self-belief
- Common thinking traps that fuel anxiety, low confidence, and a lack of motivation
- Practical thought replacements that help teens feel more capable and resilient
- How parents' thought patterns directly impact their relationships with their teens
- The role of the Reticular Activating System (RAS) in shaping what we notice and focus on
- Why mindset work is a daily practice, not a one-time fix

Ep 32. 5 Foundations for Teen Mental Health & Wellbeing
Épisode 32
mercredi 25 mars 2026 • Durée 31:47
In this episode, I’m diving into five foundational areas that have a powerful impact on your teen’s mental health and overall well-being.
These aren’t complicated or groundbreaking ideas, but they’re the things that often get overlooked in the busyness of everyday life or avoided because they can feel like a constant battle.
And just to be clear, this isn’t about perfection. I don’t know any teen (or adult) who has all of these dialed in perfectly. What we’re aiming for is high standards with high support, helping our teens move in the right direction one small step at a time.
✨ What I Cover in This Episode:
- Food & Water – How nutrition impacts mood, focus, and energy
- Screen Time Balance – Managing screens without constant conflict
- Sleep – Why it’s essential for emotional wellbeing
- Movement – How exercise boosts mood and confidence
- Self-Talk – Shifting your teen’s inner dialogue
If this episode resonated and you want support for your teen, I’d love to help.

Ep 31. Why Does My Teenager Shutdown When I'm Just Trying to Help, and What to Do Instead.
Épisode 31
mercredi 18 mars 2026 • Durée 36:43
Today, I'm sitting down with Sonia Suthar, a 19-year-old entrepreneur and the Founder of Cloud 9, who is helping parents understand why teenagers shut down when we're just trying to help, and what we can do instead to build strong, connected relationships with them. She also shares how we can help our teens build confidence from the inside out, so this conversation is one you won't want to miss!
In this episode, we explore what’s really happening beneath teen behavior and why well-meaning parental responses can sometimes create distance instead of connection. Sonia offers powerful insights into how teens interpret boundaries, advice, and even simple questions and how these moments can either strengthen or erode trust.
Whether you’re parenting a teen now or just want to understand them better, this conversation offers real, actionable insights that can help you strengthen connections, trust, and resilience in your family.
We Talk About:
- Why teens shut down and how to respond as a parent
- How to improve parent-teen communication
- The difference between fixing vs. supporting your teen
- How to build teen confidence and emotional resilience
- What teens actually need when they open up
- The “3 H’s” method: Heard, Helped, or Hugged
- How to create a safe space for your teen to share
- Balancing high expectations with emotional support
- How to stop power struggles and build connection
- Practical tools to strengthen your relationship with your teen

Ep 30. What Teen Athletes Really Need from Their Parents
Épisode 30
mercredi 11 mars 2026 • Durée 29:16
Are you helping your teen athlete grow, or are you accidentally adding more pressure?
In this episode, I talk about how sports can be one of the most powerful developmental experiences in a young person’s life, and it's one way teens can learn perseverance, teamwork, leadership, and how to bounce back after mistakes.
But there’s something we don’t talk about enough... The role parents play in shaping that experience. What we say from the sidelines, in the car ride home, and during the hard moments can either build confidence or add stress.
Here are some of the powerful reminders for supporting teen athletes that we'll dive into:
- Listen before problem-solving - Sometimes, they need to vent.
- Ask before giving advice. - “Do you want help with this, or do you just want me to listen?”
- Help them reset after mistakes. - Feel it → Flip it → Find the next play.
- Remember the bigger picture. - Sports aren’t just about the scoreboard; they’re about the kind of person your teen is becoming.
- It's a great opportunity for Connection.
These moments with our teens, on the sidelines, in the car rides, during practices, are powerful opportunities for connection and growth.
It’s in these ordinary moments that extraordinary bonds are formed.

Ep. 27: The Number One Way to Increase Influence and Connection with Your Teen: Respect
Épisode 27
mercredi 18 février 2026 • Durée 26:09
In this episode, I break down what respect really looks like during adolescence, why it matters so deeply, and how we can lead our teens with both firmness and dignity.
When teens feel dismissed, talked down to, or controlled, their brains go into defense mode. But when they feel respected, they’re far more likely to stay open, honest, and cooperative even when the conversation is hard.
So often, we fall into the mindset that respect is something our teen has to earn. But the truth is, with teenagers, respect is often the fastest way to rebuild connection and increase influence.
Here’s what we’ll explore:
- Why respect is the foundation of connection and influence
- How subtle disrespect leads to resistance and shutdown
- Why teens are neurologically wired to care about dignity and status
- The “high expectations + high support” approach from researcher David Yeager
- Why collaboration beats control when setting boundaries
- What teens notice most about respect at school and at home
- How modeling respect is the quickest way to receive it back
- Why repair after conflict builds trust faster than perfection
- One of the most respectful parenting shifts: not rushing in to fix, correct, or advise

Ep. 26: The Control Shift That Changes Everything With Teens: What You Can Control vs What You Can’t
Épisode 26
mercredi 11 février 2026 • Durée 18:02
I’m sharing a simple but powerful shift that can completely change your relationship with your teenager: learning what’s actually in your control and what isn’t.
When your teen is shutting down, acting out, bringing attitude home, or struggling with motivation, it’s so easy to fall into the trap of trying to control their behavior in the heat of the moment. But the truth is, the more we try to control what we can’t, the more disconnected and overwhelmed we feel.
In this conversation, I break down how focusing on your own response instead of your teen’s emotions is where your real influence and leadership live.
This episode is for parents navigating:
- Teen attitude and disrespect
- Emotional meltdowns and big feelings
- Power struggles and constant conflict
- Motivation and follow-through challenges
- Setting boundaries without yelling or nagging
We’ll discuss the Circle of Control (inspired by Stephen Covey), the power of co-regulation, and what it truly means to “Let Them” (from Mel Robbins) without letting everything slide.
If you’ve been feeling stuck, reactive, or exhausted, this episode will remind you that the most powerful thing you can do is return to what you can control: your own nervous system, your boundaries, and your next move.
