| Ep 269: Stuart (Miniature Realms Youtube Channel) | 28 Nov 2025 | 01:09:54 | |
This week I talk to Stuart of the Miniature Realms Youtube channel. Stuart puts together a wide range of content for us to enjoy from chats to tutorials to book overviews. I have wanted to talk to Stuart for a long time as he always comes across as a solid stand up chap who is passionate about our hobby, and he was! Thanks for coming onto the show Stuart, we appreciated hearing from you, and if you haven't checked out his channel then swing by and see if it is something you may enjoy. | Ep 260: Dave Schmidt (Author and Fellow Hobby Nerd) | 26 Sep 2025 | 01:31:15
This week I talk to Dave Schmidt. Dave is not only a hobby nerd like us but he is also a self published author. He writes the Clay and Aether saga and he's not done! He is writing more books as we speak, maybe at this very moment, so be quiet, dont disrupt him. It was great to talk to Dave, he is one of our own, he's been a member of the PATM discord for ages and he is always a positive presence and influence on those around him, thanks Dave, was a great chat and we all wish you the very best. Dave also sent us a snipped of one of his books and we can listen to that right after the intro, so if you like it you can check out the audiobooks or ye'olde'skool read if yourself versions. Its on Amazon, I picked up the series the other week and I have a bit of holiday coming up sooooooo, I am on it! PATM Discord: https://discord.gg/eHYTf4Z7t4
| Ep 173: Why I love Mayhem (Dewi C) | 26 Jun 2020 | 01:16:04 | |
Hey! This week Hendrik M is a guest pre/post ramble leader! It was great to hear him strut his stuff on the ramble! In the show Dewi talks about all the of the reasons why he loves the 6mm fantasy battle game Mayhem by Brent Spivey. I hope you enjoy the show!
| Ep 172: Chris B (Modiphius Entertainment) | 19 Jun 2020 | 01:13:48 | |
This episode I speak to Chris Birch of Modiphius Entertainment. Modiphius are best known to me for their Fallout and Elder Scrolls skirmish games. They have taken two brilliant video game IP's and turned them into tabletop skirmish games. Fallout works with resin minis but The Elder Scrolls games has introduced a line of plastic fantasy minis which although I found a little fiddly to put together, now I have constructed and primed will make excellent additions to my fantasy skirmish collection.
I really enjoyed talking to Chris and I encourage you to take a wander over to Modiphius' website, especially if you like RPG's and even more so if you like the Elder Scrolls and or Fallout. Games aside Chris was a superb guest and I was really interested talking to him, I hope you enjoy the noises we both made that I captured.
| Ep 171: Paying Attention Vs Getting Attention | 12 Jun 2020 | 01:28:41 | |
Hey All, Zach 'Ken Tucky' Tackett takes over the pre/post ramble ramble this week, I enjoyed seeing where he took it, thanks Zach I hope you enjoyed the experience. In the show Wee Matty and I talk about our thoughts on the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VTsIju1dLI&t=662s We talk about how it may relate to our hobby and especially with sharing on social media. We aren't qualified to coherently talk about this, it is just our ideas/thoughts/suggestions and how it occurs to us as it occurs to us. I always love a chat with Matt!!!

| Ep 170: Lon Weiss (Brigade Games) | 05 Jun 2020 | 01:37:33 | |
This episode I speak to Mr Lon Weiss of Brigade Games. Brigade games offer a wide variety of minis both from their own commissioned ranges to other notable companies in one place. There is a heavy focus on the Black Powder era and they have a current kickstarter campaign to fund a French Indian War range of models sculpted by the talented Mr Paul Hick's who PATM are fortunate to count as a friend of the show. The current KS does end on June 7 2020, which is 2 days from the release date but as with all the shows I dont consider them to be timestamped by the content or just a sales platform. Lon and I have a wide ranging chat from his regular day job, into how Brigade Games came into being with brief forays into other areas. It was a pleasure to talk to Lon and he comes across as a highly experienced person in the hobby industry, it was fun picking his brain for an hour and a bit, I hope you enjoy the show.

| Ep 169: Jens (Tabletop Generals Youtube Channel) | 29 May 2020 | 01:27:20 | |
This episode I speak to Jens of Tabletop Generals. Tabletop Generals is a YouTube channel which is charting the course of World War 2 from very beginning to very end via bat reps and hobby content. It was a pleasure speaking to Jens and I had fun reliving my silly German sayings, along with some very deep conversation about the Waffen SS from his German point of view. I need to mention it here in the intro and I dont want it to potentially offend anyone, so if you dont want to hear about our opinions on man's potential to do not very nice things to others then this might be a show to miss. It is my opinion that anyone is capable of doing anything, either amazing or terrible, depending on the circumstances and situation. I am not condoning war crime, or any crime of any sort, or celebrating it, I dont even think anything we talk about is controversial in anyway, but I just thought I'd mention it here. It is my own and Jen's unqualified opinions on it at this point in time…Whew! I made that seem a lot more serious than what it is, but there you go. It was pleasure talking to Jens and I hope you enjoy the show!
| Ep 168: Restless Kaiser (Modelling for Advantage) | 22 May 2020 | 01:25:45 | |
This episode I speak to Mr Restless Kaiser of Modelling for Advantage. Modeling for Advantage is a Youtube Channel putting together battle reports for various games along with other content for our viewing pleasure from a number of different people. I enjoy the level of banter and hijiinx that goes on during their games, I always have a chuckle watching it and I'd heartily recommend you having a look see. The audio was a little dodgy as you will hear but its good enough for the chat and to understand. In a perfect world we'd have a plush studio and I'd helicopter the guests in, they'd land on the roof and be ushered into some private quarters to relax in a hot tub before the show, but we dont live in a perfect world, so unfortunately we have to get what we are dealt. I had great fun talking to Restless Kaiser and I hope you enjoy the chat. | Ep 167: I like Kickstarter, I dislike Kickstarter...A ramble with Joe McCullough | 15 May 2020 | 01:51:22
This episode we have a genuine RAMBLE!!!! Joe Mc and I have a wide ranging conversation about our experience of and the dichotomy that is Kickstarter. I like and dislike kickstarter in equal measure and this very much comes through in the chat. Its amazing and terrible and amazingly terrible, and terribly amazing. I struggle with podcasts like this and I have been sat on it for a month because I dont want to poo poo anything that anyone does in the industry I have no right, but equally these things effect us, they effect me, and making sense of them helps me to game sustainably. I havent arrived at my set view point yet, I dont apologize for the loose ends that remain dangling at the close of this episode. This podcast is very much the sort of conversation I have anyway, there just usually isnt a microphone there to capture it. I hope you enjoy it.
| Ep 166: James B (Ulaya Chronicles: Cooperative Wargame) | 08 May 2020 | 01:47:18 | |
This episode I speak once again to James Baldwin of The Drowned Earth. If you want to know about him, his history in general you can delve into the archive and pick up episode 9 and episode 17 plus a smattering of other appearances here and there.
You should know by now that we aren't a 'here and now' podcast that is here to sell you stuff. We always try to make sure that the show is an interesting insight into the hobby we all enjoy and it was another interesting chat with James about ethos, feelings, and motivations. The Drowned Earth DO INDEED have a current Kickstarter campaign with focuses on a stand alone solo/co op game set in The Drowned Earth universe. If you like the sound of it then use the link in the description and have a look see.
From my point of view James stands with a lot of the main ethos of what I'd like PATM to be. He is a passionate, energetic, and positive person creating something engaging that he believes in and it is a pleasure to talk to him about it, its always an interesting chat. The buy in is quite low too, only 40 GBP for the lowest option with card standies so fits in with your 'keep the painting pile manageable' strategy. I hope you all enjoy the chat. | Ep 165: Mat Hart (Steamforged Games & Resident Evil 3 KS) | 01 May 2020 | 01:20:20
This episode I speak to Mat Hart the co founder of Steam Forged Games, we were very humbled when Steamforged decided to attend the recent PATMOCON event, our online convention and that was my first experience of talking to anyone from there. I have really enjoyed every conversation I have had with Mat he comes across as an interesting and straight forward chap, with a great insight into the industry and how he puts together games. It was fun getting to know him more and finding out a little more about his ethos when it comes to making games. The Resident Evil 3 Kickstarter campaign is currently ongoing so you can check it out in the link in the description if you are so inclined, the aspect of choices affecting the environment around you is something that jumped out to me, along with the survival horror/never having enough time/resources to do what you want components. I wish both Mat and Steamforged all the best in the future. It is a company that is on my front door step in terms of UK geography and I feel the hobby world is better with them in it and hope to speak to them again soon. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/steamforged/resident-evil-3-the-board-game?ref=discovery&term=Resident%20evil%203 I must apologize for the change in audio mid way through the show, my headphones gave out and so on Mat's vocal there is a slight echo. I didn't have time to work it out but I believe we can work through it doesnt take too much away from the convo. I am away from my regular podcast set up because of COVID and I'm doing the best with what I can.
| Ep 164: Paul Hicks (Baron's War KS) | 24 Apr 2020 | 01:20:24 | |
This episode I speak to Mr Paul Hicks an outstanding sculptor of miniatures. We have a general chat about him and what he has been up to since we last spoke on episode 90, and also both the previous and upcoming Baron's War kickstarter campaigns he is working on with Andy Hobday of Footsore Miniatures. I always enjoy talking to Paul, traditional sculpting seems to be going by the wayside in favor of Z brush and electronic sculpting but I for one would hate the art and the discipline to die out, it was a shame Salute was cancelled this year as Paul was going to be there with PATM doing a number of sculpt along classes, next year we hope it will become a reality. If Baron's War interested you then check out the link here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/hobbers/the-barons-war-2-28mm-medieval-miniatures?fbclid=IwAR3QaeLi8QE4ryTKRsgN1p0LnTYncBkw4THHMKUcTW6AKxCy5cG7sbKeDyE
| Ep 259: Jordan Heckman (County Road Z) | 19 Sep 2025 | 01:28:59 | |
This week I talk to Rodman Hellman, you'll get that joke in a bit. We talk about what has been happening for him since we spoke back in 2017 and then go on to talk about his rule set County Road Z. County Road Z is a co op post apocalyptic game, it sounds super fun and it is one on my christmas/birthday list. I'm not going to go into the show more as it is nice to just listen to it unfold as we go. PATM Discord Link: https://discord.gg/eHYTf4Z7t4

| Ep 163: Josh B (PATMOCON 2020) | 27 Mar 2020 | 01:21:16 | |
Get your ticket for the 11th-13th April here: https://www.paintalltheminis.com/patmocon-2020 This episode Josh B and I have a bit of chattage about the Paint All The Minis Online Convention, or PATMOCON 2020 as it is. What we hope to do with this podcast is share with you the key information about the event so you can see if it is for you or not. Before I say anything else about anything its important to note that the world is crazy right now, things we are usually able to rely on are pretty much wholesale removed from our routines, I hope you are all safe, well, and remaining sensible in your actions and intent. PATMOCON came about to offer positivity in the face of that negativity. We want to give these totally understandable and logical social restrictions a kick up the arse and show the things that can be achieved if people come together and not allow a dearth of hope to swallow us. It is my personal belief that some people need this now, we need something like PATMOCON, to look for ward to, to enjoy, and to engage with. We need you, we need you to start reaching out to your guys and gals you interact with in the hobby, dont just brush it off and think someone else is going to. We are a community, all our actions make our community stronger, more positive, and more engaging. So copy the link and fire it at a buddy. The worst they can do is think about it and decline, and if so then it will remain an option they could have chosen at a time when those options are scarce. The industry needs us too! Think about the financial uncertainly every single company is now under. From the biggest to the smallest. I for one want them to be there when this is all done and dusted, they have brought us amazing games and content to interact with, I dont want them to have to go and get a job which would prevent them from chasing their dreams. We cant do this without you, and if ever there was a time to back YOUR community, then its now.

| PATM Online Con 2020 Announcement | 15 Mar 2020 | 00:53:05 | |
Hey, PATM are having a convention to assuage all the negativity of travel/mass gathering bans which have cancelled the conventions in 2020. We also want to give people who may not have experienced a convention before the opportunity to share in the magical experience. Here you can listen to my thoughts, reasons, and intent for the PATM Online Con and we can all see how it turns out as we get closer to April 11th & 12th.
| Ep 162: Matt M (Bedroom Battlefields) | 06 Mar 2020 | 01:43:11 | |
This episode I talk to Matthew McLean of Bedroom Battlefields, a hobby blog chronicling an average Joe's return to the hobby after the seemingly natural nerd hiatus from leaving school to late twenty something. I find Matthew to be a very interesting individual who doesnt toot his own horn enough. The amount of interesting things he has done quickly stacks up and we didn't get a chance to talk about a number of them, we need a subsequent chat I think.
| Ep 258: Alex (Alex Paints Tiny Things Youtube Channel) | 12 Sep 2025 | 01:21:18 | |
This week I talk to Alex of the Alex Paints Tiny Things Youtube channel. We have the usual rambly chat about his hobby history, likes, and highlights. We dig into a big of competitive painting, and a whole bunch of other stuff. I am pretty sure I mention it in the show, but I generalise Scottish people a little in the show, I just wanted to ensure that I mention that this is in jest, and I am totally and fully aware that you cant generalise people, it was just a lighthearted bit of banter. I dont think it was too savage, but I just thought I would throw it out there. It was great fun talking to Alex, he was insightful and interesting and his video work makes for a positive learning experience.

| Ep 161: Duncan Rhodes (Hobby Content Producer) | 16 Jan 2020 | 01:19:53 | |
This episode marks pretty much 3 years of podcasting shenanigans and hijinx, it has been a fun journey so far. 161 fun episodes with a massive assortment of guests from interesting backgrounds has been a rip-roaring ride and it has been great to share in the awesome stories. Thanks to everyone who has been listening in whether this is your first episode or your 161st, we've come a long way and it has been a pleasure to spend my time with you all.
Fate has decreed that the 3 year anniversary episode is an episode of special import, I speak to Mr Duncan Rhodes who has been possible the most recognizable face in our hobby over the last 5 years. Certainly since I began the hobby just under 5 years ago. Duncan's positive demeanour, chipper attitude, and cut the bullcrap approach to painting tutorials whilst part of Games Workshop have been a great help to hundreds of thousands of hobbyists all around the world. In the show Duncan and I have the usual Paint All The Minis ramble, covering a wide variety of areas, it was a pleasure to speak to him and I hope you enjoy the chat.
| Ep 160: Why I love Chain of Command (Travis H) | 15 Jan 2020 | 01:19:13 | |
This episode I speak once again to Travis Hiett, an integral member of the PATM family and also creator of the Tabletop CP YouTube channel. We have a 'why I love' podcast and he talks about all of the reasons why he loves Chain of Command, the WW2 game from Too Fat Lardies. I always love talking to Travis, and I also always enjoy the why I love podcasts, so this was a double treat, we hope you enjoy!
| Ep 159: Gaming in China (Tom Gilbert) | 01 Jan 2020 | 01:41:04 | |
This episode I speak to Mr Tom Gilbert who is driving the wargaming scene in China. As always we talk about his personal history and journey plus also how that is driving his current crusade of creating a tournament scene here in mainland China. It was great talking to Tom and from a personal point of view it has been great getting to know him more and hearing his insight into gaming in such a big but underdeveloped country in terms of tabletop gaming. It was interesting to hear his point of view that echos my own experience that people love games here, but just not tabletop war games. Super interesting and also exciting to see what develops over the next few years. It is people like Tom that are changing this trend and it was amazing to spend an hour with him.
| Ep 158: Christmas Special (Finding Value in the Hobby?) | 20 Dec 2019 | 01:59:25 | |
Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey, Merry Christmas if you celebrate this sort of thing. This is the PATM Christmas Special episode so waddle on over to your hobby table and chow down on some painting as opposed to all that turkey! Mr Fish and I have a little Christmas quiz followed by another ramble into the hobby from our perspective, value. Here is the original article I wrote, its just what came out when at Starbucks for an hour https://www.paintalltheminis.com/paint-all-the-minis-news/2018/10/14/value-in-the-hobby-how-do-you-find-it-does-it-matter It was an exercise I did to try to find out how it stacked with other hobbies I do/had done, especially as a reaction to 'Oh those are really expensive'. I actually think this hobby is incredible value IF you game sustainably! Anyway I hope you enjoy the show and your winter holidays.
| Ep 157: Why I love Nemesis by Awaken Realms (David Celeskey) | 18 Dec 2019 | 01:40:38 | |
Hey Hoooooo Christmas Ramblers! This episode I chew the fat with Davie C about all the reasons why he loves Nemesis, the awesome board game including miniatures by Awaken Realms. I hope you enjoy the show!
| Ep 156: Dave Oliver (Models for Heroes) | 01 Dec 2019 | 01:14:47 | |
This episode I speak to Mr Dave Oliver who is not only an avid miniature enthusiast like you and me, but he also volunteers for an organization called Models for Heroes. As you will hear in the show we go through Dave's personal history but we also ask why he decided to volunteer with this charity. Models for Heroes runs therapeutic sessions for forces veterans & emergency services personal in need of some activity that will allow them to redirect themselves into a more positive place.
I must thank Dave for coming onto the show and talking about this, it was fun not only to get to know him but also a little more about this charity. We mention it in the show but if your interest is piqued and you would like to find out more about Models for Heroes then you can follow the link https://www.modelsforheroes.co.uk.
I have also included a link to their recent video 'piece by piece' that you can watch to give yourself more of an idea of what they do and why. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYGoRUjBqU8&feature=emb_logo
I have nothing but the utmost respect for emergency and armed forces workers/veterans and I wanted to take time to thank them all for their service, I also want to thank people like Dave who volunteer to assist in programs such as this which really help people. Thoughts and prayers no doubt help in some way but action speaks far louder and it is people like Dave that make this all happen.
| Ep 155: Gary K (The Genesys Project) | 23 Nov 2019 | 01:35:46 | |
This episode I speak to Mr Gary K of Genesys Games. Gary ran a successful kickstarter recently for his game The Genesys Project.
During the show we talk about his history and experience in the hobby and also the 6 years of play testing and development that he has been partaking in! Amazing insight into how the games we play actually occur.
It was great talking to Gary and I wish him all the best in the future. If The Genesys Projects tickles your fancy then set about it and let us know how you get on. https://www.genesysgames.com
| PATM Podcast Update | 16 Nov 2019 | 00:07:47 | |
Hey All, Here is a little update on why there has been no new episode for 4 weeks and what will be happening moving forward. Fret ye not! We are not going anywhere.
| Ep 154: Leandros (Parabellum Wargames) | 18 Oct 2019 | 01:24:44 | |
This week I speak to Leandros of Parabellum Wargames. Parabellum recently fully released their tabletop fantasy game Conquest, The Last Argument of Kings. I mention this throughout the show but one of the overriding features of this tabletop massed battle game is how developed it appears to be on its initial release. Also which is really refreshing is that they went straight to market and did not crowd fund. There is nothing wrong with crowd funding per say but it is refreshing to see a game eschew this and go through more traditional methods. Alessio Cavatore of River Horse is the chief rules writer and in a pretty competitive market there are enough things in the game to make it stand out.
We aren't salesmen and we aren't looking to influence you in either direction but if you like the sound of what you hear then you can head on over to parabellum.com and have a mooch around. I personally really enjoy their art work and the fact that Alessio created it makes me take note as I enjoy his sophistication through simplicity approach.
It was great spending an hour with Leandros and we wish both him and Parabellum all the best in the future. We hope you enjoy the show.

| Ep 257: Stephen Baker (Heroquest, Space Crusade, Battle Masters, et al) | 05 Sep 2025 | 01:26:17 | |
This week I talk to Stephen Baker the world renowned game designer. Stephen's work includes but is not limited to Heroquest, Battle Masters, and Space Crusade. This is the first of….some podcasts Stephen and I will have. I wanted to take the time to get to know him and really discuss things as opposed to rushing or just him feeling like we were superficially pumping him for click baity answers to questions that he has probably been asked a thousand times. So in this show we get to know him, his hobby history, and any interesting tid bits that popped up as we chatted. We end this show ready to discuss Heroquest and its genesis. Thanks to Stephen for coming onto the show! PATM Discord: https://discord.gg/eHYTf4Z7t4

| Ep 153: Caleb (Krakenships Miniatures) | 13 Oct 2019 | 01:16:38 | |
This is a special bonus episode for you guys because why not! I speak to Caleb from Krakenships. Krakenships is a new company that seeks to fill gaps in fantasy RPG and skirmish model sets. If you are looking for non traditional models as you avatar for your RPG and skirmish games then Krakenships might just be for you. Turtle dudes, cat people, and non traditional wood elves came up in our chat as well as the opportunity to visit their website and request certain things. They are also on the last couple of days of their first kickstarter campaign as this comes out (October 13th) so if this sort of thing interests you then toddle over and have a look see. It was really interesting talking to Caleb about his personal history and also his motivations. Krakenships seem s an interesting company that looks to provide things that might not currently on the market and that is always pretty cool. As with all shows it is the personal story that is the main concern and it was great to hear of a motivated guy not taking no for an answer and just doing stuff he loves and trying to make our hobby a better and more diverse place. All the best in the future Caleb, Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/krakenships/krakenships-miniatures-28mm-fantasy-tabletop-figures Website:

| Ep 152: Sustainable Gaming (Social Health & Playing Regularly) | 11 Oct 2019 | 02:37:17 | |
This week is the 4th and final episode in our mini series where we go into greater depth in what we feel we mean with the term sustainable gaming. Remember this term was created to try to get to grips with the hobby more and to give us pause for thought in regard to what we get and what we want out of the hobby to make it the most enjoyable as possible.
If you remember we defined it as 'enjoying the hobby and participating for the longest time possible, understanding what we like about the hobby and what we dont, controlling it and avoiding situations where it controls us'.
We have linked this definition to 3 key areas: Playing regularly, painting regularly, and not overbuying models & games. Plus we have also had a bit of a natter about how this hobby may positively or negatively effect our personal mental, physical, & social health.
This episode we delve a little deeper into playing regularly and also social health.
As I mention in the show I find this the most challenging as my physical and mental health I feel a lot more in control of. I must also at this point explain what I mean by the term 'superficial friend'. I use this term a lot in the show to explain the depth of friendship with certain people. After the show when I was editing I felt this might have a negative connotation, it isnt intended to. What I mean when I say superficial friend is that they are my friend, I enjoy their company but they aren't the sort of friends that I would ask to help me move house, to be my best man, or share sensitive personal information with.
Secondly, my gaming buddy selection system may be a little creepy! I didn't think it was odd but when I verbalized it, it seemed a bit weird. I dont know, you make your own mind up but I am always looking for new gaming buddies and dropping wee hints here and there and seeing what their reactions are.
This was the final chat with Mr Fish, I do hope to get him on again to chat abbot more stuff as I genuinely enjoy his attitude and his outlook. Many thanks to the Patrons who allowed me to send Mr Fish his copy of Bloodbowl that had been sitting in his amazon cart for months. We were able to send him that to say thanks for his time, and because of that I say thanks to you!
I am always incredibly reluctant to talk about our Patreon page as it doesnt go into Dan-o's personal navel strength rum fund, all that money goes directly back to our community and allows us to say thanks to Ignatius in this way. If you are interested then check out patreon.com/paintalltheminis. If not then no drama.

| Ep 149: Sustainable Gaming (So What is it?) | 20 Sep 2019 | 02:02:56 | |
This episode is the first of 4 episodes that will be released over the next month on the topic of sustainable gaming. Doing something in a sustainable fashion is something that I am incredibly interested in, along with why people do the things they do, plus also the external and internal pressures we put on ourselves in our personal and professional lives.
As I have got into the hobby as an adult I have both experienced personally and seen others gaming unsustainably. This could be over buying models that just sit there and are then sold, buying models to play games they will never play, or spending a lot of time berating themselves for not painting or playing when they want to.
I first talked about this in episode 95 & 96 of the show, so that might be a good listen before this one as you will have more of an idea of what I mean before we begin.
In these episodes we also pull in how the hobby may positively or negatively effect our personal health, the aspects of this being physical/social/mental. I personally believe that any part of our lives can affect our health and this hobby is no different. I personally try to make sure that the hobby is only affecting me in a positive way and these episodes are me and Mr Ignatius Fisher talking about what sustainable gaming is for us, in our experience.
A final couple of notes are that this is not trying to tell you what to do, if you love this hobby and it fulfills you then let no one dissuade you from it. We also dont claim to be experts or qualified to discuss this, so please dont take any thing we talk about as gospel or an idiots guide to happiness. It quickly becomes apparent that this subject area is incredibly deep.
We hope that by listening it gives you pause for thought, a few nuggets to reflect on. And possibly a few laughs.
On a personal note it was the first time I had verbalized a lot of thoughts and feelings and it really helped me to figure out what sustainable gaming means for me.
Please make sure you reach out to share thoughts, feelings, or things you do in the hobby.
I hope you enjoy the chat.
| Ep 148: Brent Amberger (Goobertown Hobbies YouTube Channel) | 13 Sep 2019 | 01:32:52 | |
This episode I speak to Brent Amberger of the Goobertown Hobbies Youtube Channel. Goobertown Hobbies is a youtube channel I personally really enjoy as there is a lot of thought, depth, and insight included in the videos I have watched. In an age of clickbait and also lots of videos/content that appears to have been put together to over promise and underdeliver I find Brent's videos to be insightful and interesting. The way that he does his videos I appreciate, he never seems to be 'selling' anything, he just seems to be sharing his thoughts and his ethos, which is something Ii really enjoy. It was great talking to Brent and it is yet another positive byproduct of this podcast for me personally that not only do I get to find channels like Brent's but I also get to spend an hour chatting to him, it was a fun chat and I hope that you enjoy it too.
| Sustainable Gaming Mini Series Teaser | 08 Sep 2019 | 00:17:45 | |
Sustainable Gaming!!! Playing, Painting, Not overspending. Physical, Mental, Social Health. Coming Sept 20 for an entire month our podcast will be given over to talking about this concept of making the hobby work for us. 'Enjoying the hobby and participating in it for the longest time possible, understanding what it is we like about it & what we dont, controlling it, not allowing it to control us.' It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Ignatius Fischer on over 8 hours of audio spread across 4 episode for you guys as we talk about and make sense on our terms of how the hobby affects us and the things we can do to make it work more for us. It is essential to note that we are not experts, only people chatting about it from our experience and on our terms, also that it is not a set of rules. We hope that it could potentially be a catalyst for reflection to make sure that whatever you are doing is for you and possibly prompt some sort of thought. It has personally really helped me to make sense of my hobby and allowed me to find ways to improve certain health aspects whilst participating in this hobby we all love.
| Ep 147: Mark Latham (Games Designer & Writer) | 06 Sep 2019 | 01:21:16 | |
This episode I talk to Mr Mark Latham a now freelance games designer and writer who has worked on or created a number of games we would have heard of such as The Walking Dead All Out War, The Harry Potter Miniatures Game, and The Elder Scrolls: Call to Arms. Mark also has a very interesting background working with Games Workshop and was clearly involved in shaping key elements that a great many people hold fondness for, I wont spoil the chat by mentioning them here but I am sure that it will be a waltz down memory lane for a lot of you. It was great talking to Mark and I really enjoyed out chat, I hope you do to.
| Ep 146: Henry Hyde (Battlegames) | 30 Aug 2019 | 01:36:50 | |
This episode I speak to Henry Hyde, a gent who has had a long and very interesting pathway in the hobby industry and has participated in a wide variety of roles and responsibilities. Working mostly in written media he has moved with the times and felt the changes in personal preference and technological advances. It was really fun speaking to Henry and I hope you enjoy the chat we had. If you haven't heard of him before you can listen into the show where he talks about his Patreon activities and also his twitter account. I hope you enjoy our chat, I wont spoil it by talking about any more of it here.
| Ep 145: Why I love Open Combat (Jonas E) | 23 Aug 2019 | 01:13:07 | |
This episode I speak to Jonas Ekman in a Why I love podcast where he talks about all the reasons he loves Open Combat. I will let Jonas talk to you about the details and why he loves it so much but some headlines are that Open Combat straddles skirmish/RPG games and allows you to use any models you have whilst also allowing you to stat them in any way you'd like . I really enjoy the Why I love podcasts and this one was no exception. I hope you enjoy the chat. We arent salesmen and we arent looking to influence you but if you like the sound of Open Combat you can find out more here: https://www.secondthunder.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1
| Ep 256: Chris (Offbeat Builds Youtube Channel) | 29 Aug 2025 | 01:19:56 | |
This week I talk to Chris from the Offbeat Builds Youtube channel. Chris creates videos of himself kitbashing Warhammer 40k models and his videos are slick and he is also a chipper and funny chap so his work is always good value. Chris came across as a really nice guy and I was very fortunate to be able to spend a while with him, I had a good few chuckles when I was listening back during the edit, I hope you enjoy listening to it also. Thanks Chris for coming onto the show, I hope we find common cause to chat again in the future. If you are into kitbashing, or want to be, go check Offbeat Builds out. | Ep 144: Mike Hutchinson (Gaslands) | 16 Aug 2019 | 01:38:35
This episode I speak to Mike Hutchinson the writer of Gaslands, the post apocalyptic game of vehicular combat and racing, and also the upcoming game A Billion Suns which comes in 2020. I loved talking to Mike as his demeanour, candour, and insight makes for a great chat. Its obvious from our chat that he is a positive & hard working guy and there were so many threads I would have liked to chase down but alas time marched ever on and I could not ask all I wanted to. One key area that came up in our pre show and mid show chat was the idea of having a growth mindset, if you aren't aware of what a growth mindset is then go and do some reading on it as it is something that I truly believe that can help in personal and professional situations. Carol Dweck is the person you need to look into. Its something I dont claim to be perfect at, and Mike quite rightly pulls me up on some slack thoughts I put out there in regard to games but there is a common thread that pops up regularly on the show with people who have 'done something' in the hobby industry and that is their ability and craft are developed and honed with time and experience. Sounds simple and straight forward when you read of it but the execution is what separates people like Mike from other people who maybe have a great idea but just dont ever do anything with it. I really do hope that I manage to get Mike back onto the show in the future as the hour literally flew by and it was a true pleasure.
| Ep 143: Olly Gibson (Liberum Esse & PATM) | 09 Aug 2019 | 01:13:13 | |
This week I talk to Olly Gibson an average Joe just like you and me who enjoys the hobby but also has his YouTube channel Liberum Esse where he posts his thoughts. I will let Olly tell you what this means in due course. The show was a run rambly chat as it should be and covers a wide variety of things. It was great speaking to him and it is people like Olly that have made, will make, and currently make my experience in this hobby a positive one. I really subscribe to OIly's ideas and the way he goes about things, very laid back, down to earth, and positive. I hope you enjoy the show!
| Ep 142: Alessio Cavatore (River Horse Games): What makes a good game? | 02 Aug 2019 | 01:26:21 | |
This week I talk once again to Alessio Cavatore of River Horse Games. I spoke to Alessio back in episode 51 so if you want more info on his personal history then go and check that out. In this episode we talk about what he has been up to since our last chat, we poke about the diverse set of games and activities he has been up to with some huge and well known IP's, and we also talk about what he thinks makes a good game. I am really enjoying revisiting previous podcast guests and asking them what they think makes a good game. Both Lardy Rich and Joseph McCollough have been on recently with their opinions and it has been so interesting to hear their opinions. From reenacting historical scenarios, to narratives, to sophistication though simplicity of rule set. Its always fun talking to Alessio and I hope you enjoy the show!
