On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are body swapping and murderer fleeing. We watched the 2020 film from Christopher Landon, Freaky.

You all remember that silly movie where Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are a mother and daughter who magically switch bodies and hijinks ensue? Freaky is a lot like that one, but loads of people are brutally murdered.

It’s the classic formula for all of the best movies! Not only does it make for a fun, spooky time, it’s also going to kick off our month of spooky Halloween episodes.

We’ve got a lot of good stuff in store for you this year. In this one, Vince Vaughn is a scary-ass killer and Kathryn Newton is the teenager who unwillingly takes over his monster body. It’s good time for for everyone!

I’ve had it with these motherfucking sharks in this motherfucking corn! Wait, that’s a different movie entirely. Is Snakes on a Plane a better movie than this one? Lucky you, we’ve now done both of them!

Am I saying that one is better than the other? Nah, you’re stuck here with this one. (Although, I will say that one features Samuel L. Jackson, and that’s probably all you need to know.)

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are begging with everything we’ve got for an official Red Ryder, carbine action, 200-shot, range model air rifle, with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time. We watched the 1983 film from Bob Clark, A Christmas Story.

We want that air rifle sooo bad, we can’t even tell you. And no, we won’t shoot our eyes out. That’s probably just a myth that someone’s mom started because they didn’t want to buy their kid the best toy ever made.

We should take a page out of Ralphie’s book. We’ll start leaving hints around the house, accidentally blurting out our desires, and writing surely phenomenal school reports about what we want for Christmas.

It’s a foolproof plan!

If it can work for Ralphie, then it can work for us, dagnabbit! We’ve got to get going now. There are plans to be hatched and holiday dreams to be had. Enjoy the episode about this classic film!

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are being encouraged to live better, happier lives by random people who meet us on the street. We watched the 2019 film from Paul Feig, Last Christmas.

What’s the message of this story? If some stranger comes up to in front of your workplace and starts chatting you up, then give them a shot because they could change your entire outlook on life?

We’re not going to say that this is good advice necessarily, but if that stranger happens to be Henry Golding, then hey, what have you got to lose?

At the very least, your life probably won’t get any worse. Imagine the upside, though. You could end up with a unique experience, love in your heart, and the motivation you need to make something good in this world.

That sounds like a good, ol’ fashioned holiday miracle to me!

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are suffering through some serious retail employee hell this damn holiday season. We watched the 2021 film from Casey Tebo, Black Friday.

To all of our dear listeners who have been subjected to or will have the misfortune of being forced to work on this most unholy of made-up holidays/shopping events: We hear you, we see you, and we sympathize with you.

This year, we encourage you to remind yourself that it could be a heck of a lot worse. You may be spending your precious holiday time away from family and friends, but at least you’re not having to fight for your lives against a growing horde of zombie creatures.

And hey, if this film is a dreadful foreshadowing of where this planet is heading, then at least you’ll have the opportunity to watch your retail prison, ahem, I mean workplace go down in flames.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are running away with newly risen Texas beauty queens. We watched the Will Geiger film from 2007, Elvis & Anabelle.

Did this movie invent a new genre? Gothic dramatic romantic road trip family drama?

Whatever the heck it is, Joe Mantegna completely stole every scene he was in. Nobody else could compete. If you’re going to see this movie, do it mostly for him.

However, there’s also a clever love story to be found in this film. It’s unique, quirky, and by all accounts, fairly strange. But when has that ever stopped love from taking over a person?

We’re not sure that the love between Elvis and Anabelle should have been so vilified, but we are certain that their love should bloom like a field of sunflowers.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are hitting dudes with long, pointy sticks while on horseback so we can win the hearts of our fair maidens. We watched the 2001 film from Brian Helgeland, A Knight’s Tale.

I’m going to take a second to think about another movie that makes such good use of classic rock music in a way that doesn’t feel forced or fall flat…

I’ve come to a quick conclusion: There isn’t another movie like this one. That’s a curious thing because the early 2000s were flush with films that featured quirky storylines, burgeoning superstars, and low-stakes romance.

But did any of them have the unique combination of intense rivalry between nobility and peasants, rousing jousting scenes, and Paul Bettany’s butt? No, I don’t think any of them do.

Part of what makes A Knight’s Tale wonderful is its daring to push on the bounds of its early ‘00s filmmaking box. It could have easily been any other forgettable adventure-romance thing, but it persists because of its special charms.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are breaking the biggest case of our storied career WIDE OPEN! We watched the Evan Morgan film from 2020, The Kid Detective.

Can you imagine how hard it must be to have an entire town’s hopes and dreams placed squarely on your young shoulders? The pressure that must put on a person is unimaginable!

And in the case of Abe Applebaum, it wasn’t about a championship sports game or some nonsense like that. No, his entire town is hoping and expecting that he’ll find a young girl who’s gone missing. Oh, and she’s the mayor’s daughter. Easy peasy, right?

When that understandably doesn’t work out because Abe is just a child at that point, the town gets all grumbly about it? That, friends, is what we call some bullshit.

Luckily, our dear detective is given another chance when a local high school girl stops by his office and asks him to investigate the murder of her secret boyfriend. The investigation is afoot!
