Mitchell Gomez joined Dancesafe as their National Outreach Director in 2014 and was responsible for all volunteer coordination, the development, implementation, and evaluation of new training curriculum and outreach initiatives, and administrative tasks.  He has volunteered with the Burning Man organization, SSDP and other small harm reduction projects for many years, and is a passionate advocate for reality-based drug policy and harm reduction.

In addition to his work with DanceSafe, Mitchell also sits on the Advisory Council of Psymposia, a media and events group that shares stories and fresh perspectives about the emerging science and social issues of psychedelics, psychoactive drugs, policy reform, and harm reduction. In March of 2017, he was promoted to Executive Director of DanceSafe and continues to remain active in outreach activities.

I went to meet Rafael at his place for a conversation that was both fun and educational. I'm pretty sure we solved all of the problems of the world here. The conversation is a wide-ranging one, from drugs, altered states, the healing process, therapy, somatic-based healing vs. cognitive therapy, diversity, inclusion, and how to heal trauma on an individual level as well as both of our opinions about healing on a collective (societal level), respecting differences, creating connections and communities and much much more...

Rafael Lancelotta Bio:

Rafael is a graduate from the University of Wyoming in Mental Health Counseling. He has worked as a wilderness therapy guide with adolescents and young adults experiencing a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges. He has also worked as a counselor at the Behavioral Health Services unit of a psychiatric hospital treating severe and persistent mental illness and medically supervised drug and alcohol detox. He has worked on several research projects studying the epidemiology of 5-MeO-DMT use in the global population and is also the administrator of 5meodmt.org, an online forum dedicated to hosting community discussions on harm reduction, integration, and safe practices around 5-MeO-DMT use. He is interested in the use of psychedelics paired with therapy for increased resiliency, mental health, and openness. He believes that the counseling relationship is essential to deepen, enhance, and actualize the benefits of psychedelic-assisted therapy. He is passionate about finding ways to make psychedelic-assisted therapies available to all those who may benefit from it as well as helping to raise awareness as to responsible clinical applications of psychedelics/entheogens.

I had a wonderful conversation with Chi, the founder of Truffles Therapy in Amsterdam. A retreat center holding psilocybin mushroom ceremonies for healing, growth and unleashing your truth.  

Chi has battled addiction, depression, and low self-esteem that couldn't be corrected with the mainstream notion of "modern material success" Even after having achieved great financial success, he was still in a dark place, lost and desperate, Until psychedelics Changed His life. Now he is helping hold space for others searching for the same healing. 

His story is incredible, going from being a big financial success, leaving it behind, traveling around the world, seeking something more, practicing Buddhism, and then finding psychedelics. 

It was after a heroic dose LSD trip that ripped the veil away and showed him the truth. 

Soon after his LSD journey, Chi had his first experience with magic mushrooms, and his life has been transformed ever since.

ERIE:

Larry Norris, MA, Ph.D. Candidate is the co-founder and executive director of ERIE (Entheogenic Research, Integration, and Education) 501(c)(3), a group dedicated to the development of entheogenic research and integration models. Beginning his studies in cognitive science as an undergrad at the University of Michigan, he is now a Ph.D. candidate in the East-West Psychology department at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) in San Francisco. His dissertation will review archived ayahuasca experiences to identify transformational archetypes that induce insights hidden within the experiences. As adjunct faculty at CIIS, Larry taught a graduate course called Entheogenic Education: Contemporary Perspectives on Ancient Plant Wisdom in order to discuss the concept of entheogens as educational teachers and cognitive tools. He has also taught Paradigms of Consciousness at John F. Kennedy University. A dedicated activist and proponent of cognitive liberty, Larry's efforts are a contribution to not only change the Western legal status of these powerful plants, fungus, and compounds but also to emphasize the potential sacred nature of entheogens given the right set and setting.

Carlos Plazola:

Education: Carlos received his BS degree in biology and Anthropology from UCLA reaffirming his love of this planet and the human experience. In 1993 for 3 months he lived among the Achuar tribe in Ecuador where he learned of their ways and impact of western society on their traditions, partook in Ayahuasca ceremony with Curandero. From 1993 to 1995 Carlo studied political ecology at Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. The intention was to understand how human positively and negatively impacts the use of Earth's resources from a political, social, and economic perspective. He then took courses at the School of Management as well. From 1994 to 1998, Carlos worked at non-profits doing community organizing to learn the tool of mobilizing people. From 1998 to 2006 he worked at the congressional office and at local city council office to learn how to do political organizing, and then from 2006 to 2012, he started real estate development consulting to learn private sector success and to learn how to create the built environment, and how to do so with sustainably. From 2012 to now, Carlos has built over 30 projects, with the latest ones focusing on sustainability and social good (historic preservation). His role in Decriminalize Nature Oakland is about bringing all this together for the benefit of humanity and the planet as co-evolvers in the universe.
