SSP Cinema Classics 15 - Daleks' Invasion Earth - 2150AD17 May 202501:27:30

Cinema Classics Number 15 - "We'll have to bypass Watford. The place is full of Daleks."

This week, it's exterminate! meets cinematechnique as Silver Screen Cinema Classics teams up with sister show Hit or Miss: Doctor Who for a one-time-only crossover that's bigger, louder, and more British than ever before! Join Mike, DK, and returning guest Will Templar as they journey back in time for the Technicolor mayhem of Daleks' Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D., the second (and final) big-screen adventure featuring Peter Cushing’s eccentric, grandfatherly Dr. Who. But don't expect much timey-wimey tinkering — the team’s casting a cinematic eye over this lavish (by BBC standards) adaptation of the classic TV serial, and they're not pulling any punches. From the eye-popping return of the colourful, chunky, and shoutier-than-ever movie Daleks to the dystopian breakfast endorsement of Sugar Puffs, this sequel doesn’t skimp on spectacle — or shameless product placement. There’s plenty to dissect in how the film diverges from its small-screen source material, with tighter pacing, broader humour, and explosions dialled up to eleven. The gang dives into the oddly divergent tones starting with the curious case of Tom, the comic-relief copper whose Roboman clown act proves divisive to say the least. Meanwhile, genre stalwart Philip Madoc makes a memorably grim exit, gunned down by Daleks in one of the film’s starkest and most cinematically striking sequences. All the while, poor Peter Cushing finds himself strangely sidelined, with his kindly human Doctor taking something of a backseat in a story that feels more ensemble than star vehicle. Naturally, comparisons to the first Cushing film are inevitable — and thoroughly explored. Is this camp classic a cinematic regeneration worth remembering, or did the Daleks’ big-screen dreams fall into the core of the Earth? Grab your anti-Dalek bombs, stock up from the Roboman food dispenser, and join us as we head to a 2150 that looks curiously like 1966.

HoM: Doctor Who Podcast - "Victory of the Daleks" Review & More11 May 202501:51:07

Series 1, Episode 6 - "If he did find Dorabella she's in for one heck of a shock..."

Brace yourselves, Earthlings—it’s another Dalek-themed detour in our Whoniversal road trip! This week on Hit or Miss: Doctor Who, D.K. is off on a secret mission (possibly involving Scottish robots and Churchill), but fear not! Captain Mike is back in the host’s chair and he's brought backup. Making his triumphant return is friend of the show and Who Gameshow overlord Will Templar, who once again rolls the dice (metaphorically—we didn’t bring Monopoly Daleks). And joining the podcast for the very first time, all the way from their award-worthy appearances on Silver Screen Podcast, it’s the ultimate entertainment power couple—Michael Whaley and Rune! They might be new to Hit or Miss, but they’ve got enough charisma to fill a Dalek mothership. We kick things off with the usual Whovian origin stories—how our guests fell into the time vortex of fandom—and then hop into a Nu-Who-heavy Hit or Miss segment featuring an impossible girl, a twisty Dalek plot or two and one seriously weird hybrid creature. Then it’s full steam ahead into our main review: the often-divisive Eleventh Doctor tale, "Victory of the Daleks." Is it a bold reimagining or a tea-fuelled travesty? Are those WWII Daleks a charming callback or cheesy clunkers? And do the New Paradigm Daleks really look like intergalactic pepper pots crossed with Power Rangers? All that and more in this rollicking new episode. Spoilers and jammy dodgers guaranteed.

SSP Cult Classics 6 - Flash Gordon (1980)03 Aug 202302:18:28
D.K's Cult Classics Episode 6 - "Gordon's alive!!!" A menacing cackle echoes through the air, freak weather conditions fill the skies, a rock beat starts to pound... FLASH! AH-AHHHH! Yes the inevitable day has come, our series looking at cult film has turned it's gaze towards our Mike's personal favourite and an absolute cornerstone of the genre: 1980's Flash Gordon. D.K is hosting as always and we're joined by awesome first time guest Rune (they/them). Rune will try and get a word in and bring their relatively fresh thoughts about the film to the discussion, alongside the two old nerds who can recite every word. There's a deep dive into the making of the film, the on-set feud that led to the star being re-dubbed, the retrospective effect it's had on film and personally on our panel. And there is a LOT of talk about the "Life After Flash" documentary (Mike came with completed homework, as if it was necessary!). So strap into your rocket ship as we propel you to the planet Mongo for this in-depth super long (but hopefully entertaining) podcast examining the man who saved every one of us, from beginning to the end...? HoM: Star Trek - "Soldiers of the Empire" & more16 Jul 202301:38:57
Series 4, Episode 6 - "Never trust a ship full of drunk Klingons." Can you believe we've hit 50 review episodes!? For this milestone we have another two-hander as Mike is joined by semi-regular guest and friend of the podcast Adrienne Park-Tucker. They'll be indulging in a lengthy "Hit or Miss" section before launching into a review of seminal Klingon story "Soldiers of the Empire". Along the way the discussions touch on overly brutal Klingons, hangover acting, super-serious aliens, ships that (apparently) resemble hair clippers, badass moments, character journeys & much more. This is our last episode before we take a small mid-season break but we will be back with the rest of this Klingon-heavy season very soon. So don't be a petaQ, enjoy this glorious episode. HoM: Star Trek - "Day of the Dove" & more09 Jul 202301:24:38
Series 4, Episode 5 - "This alien parasite does love some LARPing." Hello again Federation, warriors of the Klingon Empire and everyone else who enjoys a good podcast. This week our Klingon-focused series continues with a deep look at the TOS episode "Day of the Dove". It's a two-hander this week as D.K is joined again by Trek neophyte and friend of the podcast Will Templar, in our continuing attempt to make a Trekkie out of him, or at least force him to watch a few episodes. No "Hit or Miss" section this week as Will can still count the number of stories he's seen on one hand (for now) but plenty of discussion on this episode, with the dual perspective of a total newbie and a seasoned Trek veteran. Our duo touch on comparisons to Doctor Who (of course), controversial 1960s attitudes, budget restrictions, Star Trek always being "woke", great guest stars, brilliant Shatner acting, iconic imagery, the first appearance of a female Klingon, decent special effects, the infamy of TOS season 3 and more. We wrap up with a stacked audience response section and our usual conclusions and scoring. So put down that magically appearing sword, avoid the hate creature (insert your own joke here) and enjoy this great episode. Apologies for the slight audio distortions at times from D.K, we've made every effort to make your listening as smooth as possible but a little glitching still remains that was unavoidable. HoM: Star Trek - "Affliction/Divergence" & more02 Jul 202301:51:11
Series 4, Episode 4 - "Listen, these ships f*ck!" Welcome warriors to another Klingon-heavy podcast episode. This week Mike & D.K sit down with returning guest Ken Sweeney from The Comfortable Spot podcast. We talk about Ken's introduction to Trek and some of his faves, discuss shorter recent Trek seasons, his love of all things 'Enterprise' & his top episodes. We forego the usual "Hit or Miss section" this week to address the Star Trek: Prodigy situation, explain just what it's about and why we're really mad. Links to help #SaveStarTrekProdigy are below. We then jump into a review of the pivotal Klingon 2-parter, Enterprise's "Affliction" & "Divergence". We begin with some thoughts and insight into the eps from co-writer Mike Sussman, touch on the thorny subject of visual and story canon, the pitfalls of making a prequel, serialized storytelling, "will they or won't they" plots, "Speed in Space", Trek's best engineer, Klingon Uncle Phil & much more, before rounding up as always with audience thoughts and final scores. So slow down your engines, merge warp bubbles if you can and relax to enjoy this podcast that's smoother than a Klingon augment's forehead. Silver Screen Podcast - (Indiana Jones and the) Raiders of the Lost Ark Review29 Jun 202301:45:18

Episode 49 - "Indiana Jones. I always knew one day you'd come walking back through my door." We're back with another timely review. We conclude our (semi)-regular series (don't worry, we won't be gone long) with a review of the very first Indiana Jones movie, as we all prepare to dial into destiny in cinemas. Mike and D.K are joined by former Trek guest, our very own Sallah Mr. Steven "Browny" Brown. The trio will discuss whether 'The Big Bang Theory' is right that Indy has no bearing on the plot, dive into the controversy surrounding Marion's age, discuss James Bond comparisons, D.K's obsession with 'Young Indiana Jones', usage of religious iconography, brief comparisons to other entries in the franchise, the inspiration for 'Allo 'Allo, screwball comedy romantic chemistry and more. There's debate about which is the best of Harrison Ford's iconic roles, the best and worst Indiana Jones knock-offs, unconvincing background fighting and an attempt to settle once and for all which is the best film between this and 'Last Crusade'. Phew! All of that plus audience thoughts and our final conclusions and scores. Don't get caught digging in the wrong place for your Indy fix, join us here and listen to the thoughts of top... men (and Mike). Music by Timeless Journey. HoM: Star Trek - "Barge of the Dead" & more25 Jun 202301:39:32
Series 4, Episode 3 - "She deserves a promotion just for sleeping with Chakotay." Welcome back Trekkies and Klingon fans, not to the bowels of Gre'thor, but to a new episode in our series exploring Klingon themed episodes. Today we actually will be travelling to the Klingon afterlife via the Voyager episode "Barge of the Dead". Hosts Mike & D.K are joined by returning guest and Cardassian Queen Lady Vean to review this Orphean episode. Along the way they'll touch on D.K's most hated episode ("It's like valium for your eyes"), unappealing Klingon ship design ("It's the winnebago from Spaceballs dude") and the merits of the character Seska ("I will also give her credit for making the Kazon interesting") amongst other things in the "Hit or Miss section". Then the review sees them sharing a mutual love for Roxann Dawson & Kate Mulgrew, D.K's reasons why Harry remained an Ensign, Vean's distaste for the "Seven of Nine Show" and so much more. We conclude, as ever, with our usual audience reviews and podcast scores. Treat yourself, it's like Sto-Vo-Kor for your ears (we can't actually promise that but it sounded cool). Series 4, Episode 2 - "They look like Muppet boobs" Welcome back, brave listeners, to the Klingon-themed series of the podcast. This week Mike is on his own doing the hosting duty and hopefully bringing glory to the role. But we have two absolutely fantastic guests for you, both returning from other podcast episodes. Firstly, from our Star Trek: First Contact movie review and his own Starfleet Academy Leadership Podcast comes Jeff Akin. He's joined by the inimitable Sandra Eavenson, from our Star Trek: Picard series review. Together, our terrific trio touch Trek base (try saying that ten times fast), engage in a short but engaging "Hit or Miss" section then warp into a full review of the TNG story "Redemption" (parts 1 & 2). There's some fascinating and invigorating discussions of leadership styles, Klingon honour politics, morality and more. The review also looks at the writing, acting, direction, special effects and of course final scores are assigned, and we hear from our audience what they think. From dealing with bigotry to puppet-like bosoms this episode has it all. Truly it is not to be missed, if you want to maintain your honour. Outro by Timeless Journey. D.K's Cult Classics Episode 4 - "I want you to watch the movie screen. There's something I want to show you." Well you haven't exactly waited 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes and 12 seconds but after a small break we're back, and D.K is presenting us with another Cult Classic to review and sink our teeth into. This time around we're talking about Richard Kelly's stunning debut 'Donnie Darko'. Regular co-host Mike is on-board for this trip into a tangent universe, along with returning guest Jamie (JA Productions) and a cameo from Will Templar (once again the sole reviewer who hadn't seen the film before). So "wake up" and examine with us the various themes, interpretations & emotional connections. We'll also talk about behind the scenes factoids, the acting, direction, killer lines and even discuss the director's cut. HoM: Star Trek Podcast - STAR TREK: PICARD Series Review Part 2 (Season 3)21 May 202300:59:27
"The D never looked so glorious." We're back, and oh boy we're bracing ourselves as we head into our review of the season everyone is talking about; Star Trek: Picard Season Three. Look, it's safe to say we all loved this season but the level of universal praise and blind adoration you may have seen online? Yeah that's not what you'll be getting here. We have our issues (some more than others) and we're here to vent them. That said we're just as susceptible to good, well-handled fan service, the great bits of writing that are present, the outstanding performances and the sweet, sweet nostalgia. So rejoin Michael, D.K, Adrienne & Sandy for a fairly celebratory, but balanced, review of the already legendary final farewell to the Next Gen legends. And stick around because after we've scored Season Three we'll be tabulating all our season scores over the last two weeks to give a final score out of 30 for Star Trek: Picard as a whole, and finally declare whether it was a hit or a miss. So don't be like a "dipshit from Chicago" and say "no", engage your old Galaxy-class warp drives and launch into this thrilling episode.Music by Timeless Journey. Episode 45 - "Come with me if you want to live. Listen, and understand! The Silver Screen Podcast is out there! We can't be bargained with. We can't be reasoned with. We don't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And we absolutely will not stop reviewing movies... ever! That's right fans, this week we're looking at an iconic film; James Cameron's 'The Terminator'. Why? Well aside from the fact that it's an awesome film we're joined by a guest this week who had never seen any of the Terminator films! That's right, it's the epic return of the bona fide "Will Reese", aka Will Templar (the fake Will's had rubber skin, we spotted them easily). HoM: Star Trek Podcast - STAR TREK: PICARD Series Review Part 1 (Seasons 1 & 2)14 May 202301:34:57
"My boyfriend is Santiago Cabrera, thank you." Welcome, fellow Trekkies, to our review of the first two seasons of Star Trek: Picard. Over the next two weekends we'll be doing a thorough review of the whole show, with the third and final season getting it's own dedicated episode next week. Join our panel of Treksperts; Mike, DK, Adrienne & Sandy, as we delve into the world of Jean-Luc Picard's grand return and explore the highs, the lows, and the Stardust City Rag. We'll examine the storytelling, character arcs, and themes across both seasons. We'll discuss the performances, both good and inexplicable French pirates, explore the deep emotional journeys and look at what affected us most. We know it wasn't all smooth sailing through the stars so we'll also address any shortcomings including geeky complaints, issues of plot and moments that could have been further explored or expanded upon (you know where that's going), ultimately offering a balanced perspective on the series as a whole. Finally we'll pick our highlights and give each season a score out of ten. So grab your tricorders, set your phasers to stun, and join us as we navigate the galaxy with Picard and his new crew, trying our best to keep Adrienne away from the Rios holograms. Engage! Silver Screen Podcast - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Mini Review11 May 202300:53:58
Episode 44 - "I'm not fifty!" Well we hope you have seen/heard our Guardians of the Galaxy review from last week (it's still available if you didn't get to it) because this week we're back with a somewhat changed and different team guarding the galaxy one last time. That's right, we're talking about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. This is another mini review, our series of briefer discussions about films that are recent releases in cinemas. Mike and D.K have both been to see the movie on the big screen (almost unheard of) and are here to share their thoughts with each other, and by extension you! We begin with a short ten minute spoiler free section on the overall feel of the movie and how each guy felt after watching, before launching into full spoiler territory. Within that there is discussion about endings, action, character arcs, the MCU's historic first "F bomb", performances, music and more. We conclude with a discussion of how this stacks up against other MCU trilogies, where it sits in our rankings and give a score out of five stars. So join us as we bid a fond farewell to James Gunn (from the MCU at least) and the Guardians team as we've known them. Hopefully you enjoy this review, and fear not because the legendary Silver Screen Podcasters will return... Silver Screen Podcast - Guardians of the Galaxy Review04 May 202301:40:22
Episode 43 - "Behold your guardians of the galaxy! What fruit have they wrought?" Oh yeah! You knew it would be coming. With Vol. 3 burning up cinema screens as we speak, Mike-Lord, D.K Raccoon and Marvel veteran Tobi the Destroyer are here to take an in-depth look at the first 'Guardians of the Galaxy' movie. They'll be discussing acting, chemistry, universally great casting (no pun intended), James Gunn's direction, whether Thanos helped or hindered the movie, the many treats for comic book nerds (like us) and, of course, the soundtrack! This and much more including the usual audience responses and our final scores. Silver Screen Podcast - Top Ten James Bond 007 Movies 13 Apr 202302:03:28
Episode 41 - "Bond, James Bond." Pay attention 007. We have a crack team of field operatives here to brief you on the very best James Bond movies. Analysing the mission files are Mike "M", D.K "Moneypenny", Jamie "Q" and "Sandy Galore". They'll be telling us their individual thoughts on multiple things, including pondering how all but one of the Connery films ends on a boat, the age old Connery vs Moore debate, the merits of an ejector seat, the best Bond cars (not a Citroën 2CV!), the best of the surprisingly frequent ski chases and just why "Blofeld" tried to bribe James with a delicatessen!? As Captain Archer would say; "that's not a load of crap!"" We're back, with the second and concluding part of our top starships specials. We'll be giving our numbers 10 to 1 and along the way debating whether or not animated ships are "real", whether women Captains have more sense, forgetting the name of Captain Maxwell's nebula-class ship, imagining what we would do if magically transported into the Star Trek universe and talking buttplugs and sperm (don't ask). HoM: Star Trek Podcast - TOP TEN STARFLEET SHIPS (Part 1)09 Apr 202301:01:42
"I like my ships sleek, long, look like they're doing warp three standing still." Welcome back friends, cadets, officers and Starfleet fans. We're returning with a very special two part episode, our second Trek related Top Ten, this time ranking Starfleet's finest vessels. Over the next two weeks we'll be giving our personal top ten and then combining them into a final list for the podcast overall. Our panel of starship "experts" consists of Mike, D.K, returning guests Adrienne Park-Tucker and Rick Everson, and first-time guest Ken Sweeney from Comfortable Spot podcast. In this episode we hear their "Honourable Mentions" that didn't quite make their lists, "Dishonourable Mentions" (yep we went there) and their numbers 10 to 8. There's already some disagreement and ships that find themselves making more than one list depending on the panelist. Who has a love of long, sweeping nacelles? Who loves and who hates Star Trek 3's ill-fated USS Grissom? Who picked ships commanded by Thor or Robocop? Activate your subspace relays and find out. Join us next week for everyone's top 7 and the final top 10 but in the meantime helm, warp one. Engage! Music by Timeless Journey. Please visit soundcloud.com/timelessjourney to hear more. Episode 40 - "I guess it's good you can't be disappointed." Hello again. We're back, a week earlier than expected, with the same crew from our staggeringly popular 'John Wick' review. This time we're coming at you with a long-delayed episode; our review of Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus'. The guys are joined for the second time in a row by Sandra Eavenson, and again a wide range of opinions leads to some friendly but intense debate. There's also a real deep dive into 'Alien' franchise connections, a breakdown of the absolutely chaotic making of this movie and discussion of fake accents, fan theories, classical influences, big questions and more. Silver Screen Podcast - John Wick Review23 Mar 202301:41:29
Episode 39 - "He stole John Wick's car, sir, and, uhhh... killed his dog." It's been two weeks since your last Silver Screen Podcast fix and yeah, I'm thinkin' we're back. This week, to coincide with the release of the fourth chapter we're reviewing and breaking down the original 'John Wick' movie. Hear the thoughts of both hosts Mike and D.K as two newbies to the franchise watching this for the very first time. They're joined by a John Wick superfan; special guest Sandra Eavenson aka "Sanda Yaga". There's a tribute to the late, great Lance Reddick (R.I.P) and discussion about character acting, gun violence, new action choreography, the Wick mythology, a potential pissed-off puppy-less 12 year old and the near-presence of an iconic British antiques dealer, "tinker". Q&A: Actress and Stunt Performer Patricia Tallman12 Mar 202301:04:41

A CONVERSATION WITH PATRICIA TALLMAN

Welcome fans to a very special new episode of the podcast. We were thrilled to have a chance to chat with bona fide geek and film legend Pat Tallman. Her credits are way too numerous to name but encompass everything from the lead role in Night of the Living Dead (1990) to stunt work on Jurassic Park, and working on multiple Star Trek shows as well as sci-fi stablemate Babylon 5. We talk about her swashbuckling inspirations, taming your "fear dragon", working with film industry legends, remaking a horror classic, acting with unconvincing dinosaur stand-ins, eating in the Babylon 5 parking lot, hard work on three Star Trek series' sets, suggestive looking alien prosthetics and more. We also discuss her work with the Penny Lane charity, Quest Retreats and Magical Living, as well as generally being a part of the beloved nerd community. Pat was incredibly gracious, sweet and passionate, we hope you enjoy our chat as much as we did.

Silver Screen Podcast - Scream (2022) Review09 Mar 202301:33:07

Episode 38 - "See, you can't just reboot a franchise from scratch any more. The fans won't stand for it."

Our fortnightly third series of the podcast continues with another appropriately-timed review. This time we're reviewing 2022's annoyingly-titled 'Scream'. It's Scream 5, let's just all accept that going forward or the film releasing today couldn't be Scream VI (though note the switch from numbers to roman numerals. This is the kind of stuff that may drive people to murder!). We're thrilled to welcome D.K back joining Mike on hosting duties, and they are joined by returning guest Conor Esser (appropriately enough from our 'Scream' (1996) review). The trio talk about their thoughts on this movie, it's relation to others in the franchise, the general concept of "requels", what it was like to revisit for the podcast and much more. Be warned there are full spoilers for the 'Scream' movies from the start. So don't answer the phone, arm your security systems, don't trust anyone in your friend group and settle down safely to enjoy this deep-dive review.

HoM: Star Trek - DISCOVERY cancelled! Paramount bleeding money! Is the future of STAR TREK in doubt?05 Mar 202301:05:49

Welcome back dear Trek friends to an impromptu, rather downbeat special episode of this here podcast. It was announced a few days ago that Star Trek: Discovery has been cancelled, it's upcoming fifth season will be it's last, and Mike and D.K are not happy. With Paramount hemorrhaging money, Picard already concluding and the film franchise completely dead in the water the future of the recently-branded "Star Trek Universe" is looking rocky. Heck it's looking rocky, rocky 2 and half of the one with Mr. T! Along with an explanation of just what's going on, and statements from the people behind the scenes, we break down our own thoughts on this sad news. We explain our continued disappointment with Paramount for multiple continuing reasons, speculate about what the future might hold and conclude with our rankings of every Trek series to date (including seeing how the newer Trek stack up). Join us for our passionate, geeky chat and feel free to share your own thoughts and opinions any time, but keep it civil and respectful. Remember; Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations. Live long and prosper.

THIS EPISODE CONTAINS SOME STRONG LANGUAGE. VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED.

HoM: Star Trek - "Assimilation" & more26 Feb 202301:57:45

Series 3, Episode 12 - "My nickname was "Jordy", I love Geordi La Forge, is there some way to combine those...?"

We're back! No, we haven't been lost in a Q created alternate reality or stuck in 2024, but we have been away for a while and can only apologise. This episode we'll be reviewing a holdover from last year's time travel themed series that we planned but never got to, the 'Star Trek: Picard' episode "Assimilation" (season 2, Episode 3). "Captain" Mike is solo hosting this one while D.K is fixing some ship systems in his personal La Sirena. He's joined by first-time guest and "chief chat-ineer" Jordan La Fordan. Jordan is a fabulous, open and charming guest with an obvious passion for Trek and she tells us all about her introduction to the franchise, indoctrinating her husband as a Trekkie, favourite episodes and more. There's a 5 part Hit or Miss section that throws Jordan for a loop or two and then we review the aforementioned episode. So beam yourself to a comfy place (hopefully more carefully than Rios managed in 2024) and enjoy this lengthy but fantastic episode.

This episode is decided to the late Annie Wersching. May she rest in peace. You can still contribute to the GoFundMe for Annie's family to help with costs at this difficult time, support her young boys and show what she meant to us. Silver Screen Podcast - Creed Review23 Feb 202301:37:11

Episode 37 - "It's just like any other fight. So if I fight, you fight."

Seconds out, round one! We're back for the start of a new fortnightly series and with our first movie review of 2023. With the upcoming release of Creed 3 we take it back to 2015 and look at the first Creed movie. Mike is solo hosting this one but he's joined by special guest "Yo" Adrienne Park-Tucker, who you may recognise from our Star Trek film reviews. There's lots to break down including the Rocky legacy, regional touches, awards-worthy performances, emotional storytelling, stellar direction and pleas to please watch this movie and series. So grab a Philly cheese steak (or a cheese cake), go see your "Unc", try to catch a chicken and then settle down to listen to this episode. 'Cos you don't learn nothing if you ain't listening. Enjoy.

Episode 36 - "Well, a Merry Christmas to you too.”

So here it is; Merry Christmas! The Silver Screen Podcast is having fun, and hopefully you will too with our festive special episode. Mike & D.K will be reviewing seasonally appropriate modern classic 'Gremlins'. There's also a brief input from actual star of the movie Zach Galligan! (Thank you Cameo) and the two hosts will also be joined by guest quiz-masters Nick & Jenny to compete against each other in a two-round festive quiz, covering both holiday movies and 80s movies (staying on-brand). There's behind-the-scenes stories and cut scenes galore discussed, analysis of the film and a whole heaping of raving about it (spoiler alert). So grab your mince pie, have a sip of your drink of choice, pop the tree lights on and snuggle up with this very special Christmas special. Ho! Ho! Ho! Happy Holidays (unless you're Mrs. Deagle).

Silver Screen Podcast - Avatar Review15 Dec 202201:55:13

Episode 35 - "She said all energy was only borrowed, and one day you have to give it back."

We see you, podcast viewers & listeners. No, not in a creepy way! That's our way of saying that, in honour of the imminent release of it's long-awaited sequel, this episode we're breaking down and reviewing officially the biggest movie of all time; James Cameron's 'Avatar'. Mike and D.K are joined by fabulous returning guest Sandra Eavenson to look at everything from the historical nature of unobtainium to just why you would CGI in a cigarette. Along the way the trio give their thoughts on how they view the film, with one Cameron mega-fan, one person who thinks it should have gone straight-to-video and one who is more rational than either (we'll leave you to work out which is which). So link your ponytail to your ikran and travel with us as we view the beauty of Pandora before those nasty army types stomp in and someone has to call on Eywa. Hopefully it'll feel more enjoyable than a fifth of tequila and an ass-kicking.

Silver Screen Podcast - Top Ten Disney Films08 Dec 202201:57:13

Episode 34 - "Imagination is the only weapon in the war with reality."

Welcome movie lovers and fans of all things magical. Please be our guest to a whole new (but familiar) world as we embark on our next Top Ten adventure. This time around we're ranking our top Disney movies. To be clear we're talking specifically about the 61 official Walt Disney Animated Studios films, from 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' to 'Strange World'. For this task "Mike-y Mouse" and resident Disnerd "D.K Duck" are joined once more by regular guest Will Templar, who attempts to scrape together 10 Disney classics that he's actually seen. We also have lists from Mike's sister Denise and nephew Harry who couldn't join us but will be counted to the final podcast Top Ten. So wish upon a star that your favourite is represented and click play to see how far you'll go. You're welcome.

HoM: Star Trek - "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home" Review04 Dec 202201:35:41

Series 3, Episode 11 - "I work in I.T, that seems completely natural to me."

Welcome shipmates to a very special (Cadet) review. Mike and D.K are joined by former "Top Ten Trek Movies" guests Steven and... some notes from Adrienne (we tried but she couldn't make the trip to 1986). Buckle in to your stolen Klingon Bird of Prey for a discussion about the movie Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. The conversation takes in many things including how good it looks on 4K, fooling official organisations with fake whales, identifying more with Dr. Gillian as we age (or even McCoy), 80s computer graphics, the fragile nature of reality vs dreams, Klingon ship sounds and more. So remember where you parked, head for the nearest Cetacean Institute, turn down your boom box and enjoy this concluding podcast of our time travel themed third series.

Series 3, Episode 10 - "I know everybody wants a plush Murf, but I want a plushie sehlat."

Welcome once more travellers to another brand new episode of the podcast. This week we're joined by yet another first-timer; Mary (aka flutemusik). Along with hosts Mike & D.K she discusses Trekkie parenting done right, diving into fandoms, cosplay, The Monkees, The Orville and much more. We honestly had such a laugh recording this and Mary was a truly fantastic guest. You should definitely listen to her Trek insights and thoughts. We then conclude, as always this series, with a full review of a time travel themed episode. This week we're looking at Star Trek: The Animated Series' Spock-centric episode "Yesteryear". So snuggle up with your sehlat to enjoy this great episode and avoid Vulcan bullies or time portals that sound like Scooby-Doo characters.

Series 3, Episode 9 - "Dax is obviously a fangirl for Spock, and then years later Terry Farrell marries Adam Nimoy!"

Welcome back carbon-based, silicon and all non-corporeal life-forms to another episode of Trek-tacular talk and time travel tractation. Mike is off again this week so D.K is back on hosting duties and welcomes first-time guest Runa to join him. Runa braves a fierce cold (or possibly just a killer Marge Simpson impression) to discuss her own Trek experience, her very recent arrival to the fandom and her personal favourites. There's discussion of things ranging from a certain bearded first officer to angelic-looking time tech in the "Hit or Miss" section. The episode then moves, as always, into a main review. This week the examination of Trek time travel stories takes in the legendary 30th anniversary TOS/DS9 crossover "Trials and Tribble-ations". So grab a raktajino, throw on your red skant and try not to hit on your own grandparent as you enjoy this groovy podcast that you definitely CAN discuss with outsiders.

HoM: Star Trek - "Time Amok" & more13 Nov 202201:51:57

Series 3, Episode 8 - "They're this far into the future, surely they're not still playing Snake!"

Welcome back friends. We're resuming business as usual this week with a return to reviewing time travel themed episodes. Unfortunately due to some issues with guests and timing it's just Mike and D.K this week, just like old times. Don't worry though because we still have a cracking episode taking in all the usual sections. There's a quick discussion of recent new Trek, a love-fest over a particular base design, a looong and pretty heated debate about the ending of Star Trek: Picard's second season and much more. We then head into this week's review, another newer episode, as we look at Star Trek Prodigy's "Time Amok". So gather your crew, secure the vehicle replicator and don't even think about how long Rok was alone. Tissues ready. Engage Proto-warp. Watch out for temporal anomalies!

SSP Cinema Classics 12 - Arsenic and Old Lace22 Feb 202501:27:23

Cinema Classics Number 12 - "It's not a nice thing to do. People wouldn't understand. He wouldn't understand. What I mean is... Well... This is developing into a very bad habit!"

Silver Screen Cinema Classics may have taken January off but we're finally back for 2025, here with a rollicking review of 'Arsenic and Old Lace', a vintage dark comedy farce chosen by D.K. himself! Host Michael Wilson, co-host D.K (naturally)., and special guest John Adams dive into Frank Capra’s iconic film, examining Cary Grant’s performance (and his own disdain for it), the play’s stage roots, and explain the meta nods to Boris Karloff when he's not even in the film. From the unexpected dive into the farce genre to the legendary direction by Capra, this episode explores it all! The team discusses the quirky blend of humour and horror, the outrageous characters, and what made this film such a unique piece of cinema at the time. So, grab a glass of wine (best to pour it yourself to be sure) and CHAAAARGE into this wacky, rib-tickling breakdown of an oft-beloved classic!

Silver Screen Podcast - Top Ten Horror Movies (part 1)27 Oct 202201:22:48

Episode 30 - "What's your favourite scary movie?"

Darkness falls across the land. The midnight hour is close at hand. Creatures crawl in search of blood, to terrorise y'all's neighbourhood. And though you fight to stay alive, your body starts to shiver. For no mere mortal can resist the power of the Silver Screen Top 10 Horror Movies special mwahahahaha. Hosts Mike & D.K are joined by huge horror fans and streamers Freddy & Purga-Tori. Although a final list of 10 films will be decided individually all four panelists have agreed to come up with personal lists of a Top 20 as it was too hard to narrow down our beloved genre favourites. In this first half of this Halloween season treat we'll deal with everyone's numbers 20 to 11. Choices range from familiar Michael's, Freddy's & Jason's to more obscure foreign or low-budget terrors. Join us on Halloween night itself for the epic conclusion but, for now, happy spookies!

HoM: Star Trek - "The City on the Edge of Forever" & more23 Oct 202201:45:06

Series 3, Episode 5 - "To be honest I get enthralled whenever I see a donut."

Welcome back temporal tribe, we're here with another podcast looking at all things involving time travel in the Trek-verse. This week we're joined once again by established non-Trekkie Will Templar as Mike and D.K introduce him to the bona fide TOS classic "The City on the Edge of Forever". What will he make of this hugely famous episode? Will it live up to it's reputation? What do our intrepid hosts think? Which of them was an emotional wreck? Spoiler alert: it was Michael. Along the way they'll discuss starship designs and the impact they have (or not, as the case may be), 60s effects, monster designs, the career of Joan Collins, existing t-shirt ideas and much more. So settle in, have the tissues ready (for some of the opinions alone), hope that you don't have to repair your computer with stone knives and bearskins and remember, sadly, Edith Keeler must die!

Series 3, Episode 4 - "Scotty would have never let Kirk get his hands dirty."

Welcome back Trekkers, Trekkies and those of undefined Trekking to another third season episode of this here podcast, as we continue to examine time travel in the franchise. This week we're thrilled to be joined once again by returning guest Dominic Martin. As a Doctor Who fan film creator/actor he's more than familiar with time travel tales but today we're discussing his other passion; Star Trek, specifically Deep Space Nine and the extremely powerful episode "The Visitor". Hosts Mike & D.K are both back and the trio will discuss everything from their least favourite Enterprise to a (possibly) memorable TNG episode in the 'Hit or Miss' section. The actual episode review takes in a lot as well, including guest actors, familial themes, old man acting, representation in media and much more. Enjoy the episode and try not to be too much of an emotional wreck by the end of it.
