香港腳，在英文裡是 athlete's foot，直翻是運動員的腳，是說悶熱潮溼的鞋子本來就特別容易中 香港腳，這是英語中最常見的講法。香港腳是俗稱，是足癬(tinea pedis)。香港腳這名稱的由來， 據說是 18 世紀時當時英國殖民香港。從歐洲來的英軍來到濕熱的香港，腳開始發癢，他們就把這 種情況稱為得了香港腳。
