What happens when a rebellious New York kid raised around yoga ends up arrested for armed robberyâand then dedicates his life to spiritual practice?
In this episode of Jamie's Corner, I sit down with senior Jivamukti Yoga teacher Jules Febre to discuss his remarkable journey from growing up around Sharon Gannon and David Life, to discovering yoga through personal hardship, to becoming one of the most respected teachers in the Jivamukti tradition.
We dive into suffering, karma, trauma, activism, veganism, ahimsa, parenting, spiritual bypassing, and one of the biggest questions facing the yoga community today:
Can someone truly practice nonviolence while continuing to eat animals?
Whether you're a yogi, vegan, activist, or simply someone trying to live with more compassion, this conversation offers a thoughtful and nuanced exploration of what it means to put spiritual principles into practice.
đ Let us know in the comments:
Can someone fully embody ahimsa without being vegan?

In this episode of Jamieâs Corner, I sit down with Anmol, an animal rescuer and caretaker at Govardhan Eco Village in India, where Iâve been spending the past month during my Jivamukti Yoga training.
We talk about the reality of animals in India â from the millions of stray dogs living on the streets to the complicated relationship people have with cows, dairy, and traditional culture.
Anmol shares his story of growing up eating animals while rescuing them⊠and the moment he realized he couldnât keep doing both.
We also dive into some big questions:
âą Why do people sometimes harm animals?
âą What is the most effective way to reduce suffering?
âą Is euthanasia ever ethical?
âą What role does spirituality and yoga play in animal rights?
âą And can traditions evolve toward greater compassion?
We also talk about the real solution to the stray dog crisis in India: spay and neuter programs that prevent millions of animals from being born into suffering. Helping animals here is surprisingly affordable â and Anmol has started an animal shelter here with two operating rooms for spay and neuter costing under $25 per surgery.
This conversation is honest, sometimes uncomfortable, and ultimately hopeful. Because change doesnât happen overnight⊠but it does start with a conversation.

What the hell is up everyone? Todayâs episode is a hard one⊠but an important one.
Iâm sitting down with Bonnie Klapper (animal rights lawyer) and Brandy Cherven (Executive Director of Run 2 the Rescue) to talk about the reality of the dog meat trade â whatâs actually happening beyond the headlines, beyond the Yulin festival, and beyond the myth that this is just âcultural.â
We break down:
âą How rescue operations actually work
âą The massive paperwork + costs to bring dogs to safety
âą The emotional toll of watching cruelty â and how they keep going
âą Heartwarming rescue stories (bring tissues)
âą Why saving one life still matters
This conversation isnât just about dogs in China. Itâs about the line we draw. Why do we love one animal on the couch⊠and eat another on a plate? Why does cruelty shock us in one context but feel normal in another? If youâve ever felt outraged watching footage from Yulin⊠this episode will challenge you to expand that compassion across the board.
What the hell is up? In this episode of Jamieâs Corner, I sit down with longtime animal rights advocate and PETA veteran Ashley Byrne to unpack a difficult but necessary conversation: how infighting, online drama, and activist-on-activist attacks are weakening the animal rights movementâand why powerful industries benefit from it.From trolls and bots to clout-chasing creators and even historical examples of infiltration, this episode explores how division is manufactured, why it spreads so easily online, and how activists can protect their energy, their mental health, and the animals by staying focused on the bigger picture. This is a conversation about unity without uniformity, disagreement without destruction, and how to handle conflict in a way that actually creates change. If you care about animals, activism, or social movementsâthis episode is essential listening. Key topics:âą Why activist infighting is so damagingâą Industry smear campaigns and division tacticsâą âVegan-on-veganâ harassment and misinformationâą How to respond to trolls without fueling themâą Self-care and emotional regulation for activistsâą Why the animals donât care about our politicsđ§ Jamie's Corner is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube!

What the hell is up? In this episode of Jamieâs Corner, Taimoor joins us to break down his groundbreaking documentary Ending Real Furâand the five-year investigation that helped take down the fur industry as we know it.
In this episode of Jamieâs Corner, Jamie Logan sits down with Andy Stepanian â animal rights activist, SHAC 7 defendant, and former political prisoner â for one of the most raw and revealing conversations weâve ever had on the show.
Andy traces the path from early environmental activism to the SHAC 7 campaign, explaining how strategic pressure can expose corporate cruelty and bring down multi million dollar industries. He shares the deeply human side of being a political prisoner â the isolation, the unexpected community, and the fight to stay vegan and stay sane inside solitary confinement.
We dive into prison life, unexpected friendships with people labeled âterrorists,â and the lessons he carries forward to todayâs movement â including why activists must unite, how identity politics can fracture impact, and what we must do right now to support activists like Zoe Rosenberg, facing years for rescuing chickens.
This episode is a must-listen for anyone who cares about animals, justice, or the power of speaking truth to power.

Why Animal Cruelty is a Threat to Your Survival (ft. Poorva Joshipura)
Join us for a powerful conversation with Poorva Joshipura, the Director of PETA India as she recounts her 25 years on the front lines of the animal rights movement.
Poorva dives deep into the realities of activism, sharing the "chicken burger" moment that changed her life and how she overcame shyness to become a global advocate. She reveals the shocking truths uncovered during investigations, particularly within the Indian dairy and meat industries, and discusses the myths surrounding the treatment of animals in the region.
This episode explores why animal rights is intrinsically linked to human survivalâfrom climate change and public health threats to social justice. Drawing on her books, For a Moment of Taste and Survival at Stake, Poorva offers insights on dealing with the emotional toll of the work, navigating difficult conversations with family, and how every individual can drive meaningful change.

What the hell is up? On this episode of Jamieâs Corner, I sit down with my beloved teacher, Yogeswari, during the 300-hour Jivamukti Yoga Teacher Training in India.
We dive deep into the core tenets of the Jivamukti Yoga method, which explicitly link spiritual practice with actionâcentering on devotion, ahimsa (non-violence), and activism.
With over 20 years of teaching experience, Yogeswari shares how yoga can be a powerful tool for inner growth and outer changeâfostering self-love, personal transformation, and deep societal impact. She also opens up about her work founding the Azahar Foundation, which brings healing and education to communities in post-conflict zones such as Rwanda and Cambodia.
Tune in to explore how building a strong spiritual foundation can sustain and empower your activism.đ§

On this episode of Jamie's Corner, I sit down with the extraordinary Radhanath Swami, a world-renowned spiritual leader and New York Times best-selling author. This conversation goes far beyond the surface, exploring the deep connection between our inner spiritual lives and our ability to create real, lasting change in the world.
Swami Radhanath shares his journey from a 1960s civil rights activist to a global spiritual teacher. We dive into his work, including the incredible Govardhan Eco Village and the Mid-Day Meals program that feeds over a million children a day.
He challenges us to look inward, asking a powerful question: What is the difference between a dog and a cow? We discuss why true compassion for othersâwhether they are people, animals, or the environmentâis rooted in our own spiritual enlightenment. Swami Radhanath explains that you can't truly change the world unless you're willing to change yourself first.
This episode is a must-listen for anyone who wants to have a greater impact, live with more meaning, and understand that the most powerful activism begins with the heart.
