In this episode Dr. Chaffee and Simon chat with professional AFL player Tom McDonald. AFL is the most popular sport in Australia and it requires strength, endurance, athleticism and of course skill. Tom is in his 13th professional season and plays a key role for the Melbourne Demons who are one of the top teams.

For more than 8 years Tom has eaten a meat heavy, high fat and low carb diet. He was first inspired to try it when Professor Tim Noakes was invited to speak at the Melbourne Demons. This way of eating and the hard data provided by Prof. Noakes inspired Tom to try and he hasn’t looked back.

Tom explains his rigorous training schedule and how he gets enough nutrition into his system, how he optimises his recovery and his body composition for professional sport.

We talk about how to overcome cramps, why carnivore and ketosis are antiinflammatory, what’s going on with Saladino and his honey and fruit diet, whether plants are hormetic, the dangers of oxalates and more.

In this episode Dr. Chaffee and Simon chat with Sean ‘Sako’ Sakinofsky who is a keto/carnivore elite endurance cyclist who rides for hundreds of kilometers without refueling. At 50 years old he is at the top of his game and pushing the boundaries of what mainstream science and endurance experts think is possible.

In 2006, Sean founded a supplement company which advocated the usage of carbohydrates…

In 2013, after losing his father to Oesophageal cancer, Sean started to “look out of the box” and see a correlation between the high carb, low fat diet and lifestyle diseases such as cancer and cardiac problems which plagued both sides of his family and most of the developed world.

Going keto (and often strict carnivore), Sean stopped stuffing his pockets full of carbohydrate gels and kept riding his bike. His lifelong struggle with his bowel movements were resolved and his overall health improved. He has gone on to achieve incredible feats of endurance on his bike and is recording all his data proving that the mainstream dogma that you need carbohydrates for endurance is BS.

Sean is a deep thinker. He takes his time with his responses but they are worth listening to. Sit back and learn from someone putting their body on the line in an effort to improve global human nutrition. He is also an ambassador for the Noakes Foundation.

In this episode Dr. Chaffee and Simon chat with Dr. Max Gulhane who is a young Australian doctor on a mission to help people go from surviving to thriving through proper human nutrition.

Dr. Gulhane has been on his own health journey. He hit rock bottom with severe acne in his early 20s while on a plant based diet and after being prescribed accutane by a doctor who didn’t ask him about his diet he started to question things.

Dr. Gulhane has been down the rabbit hole of nutrition, government guidelines, big pharma and big food and is now an advocate for a low carb or ideally a carnivore diet. He helps his patients with a nutrition first approach and has a particular focus on visceral fat as he believes it is both the outcome and the cause of many modern diseases.

Dr. Gulhane is also a big supporter of regenerative agriculture and hosts his own podcast called the Regenerative Health Podcast.

John Manins was always interested in health and fitness as a former New Zealand middle distance running champion but when he started working 90 hours a week launching his business he began drinking every night to mask his ongoing chronic depression. One day he noticed blood in his stool and rushed himself off to hospital. It was bowel cancer.

This led John down the rabbit hole of health and biohacking, finding Wim Hoff, meditation and carnivore. He was told to do chemo even though the potential upside was only 3%... He refused, beat cancer without chemo and is now fighting fit.

The next stage of evolution for John was discovering regenerative agriculture. He bought a farm and is creating his own little slice of paradise plus creating quality nutrition in the form of organic beef.
