Ep 89: Finding your frequency, with Kate Harrison21 Jul 202601:06:37

In today's episode, my guest is Kate Harrison — founder of ChroME and the woman behind 'Kate the Colour' — and we spend the whole hour on something I didn't expect a business podcast to cover this deeply: colour as energy, and what happens when you lose yours entirely.

Kate's route here wasn't a straight line. Twenty-five years of self-employment, a high street styling studio that won a Grazia award, a pregnancy that ended in preeclampsia and postnatal depression, and — more recently — her husband's breakdown, which left her rebuilding alone and, in her words, sat in 'a pit of greyness.' It was there that a chromatherapy course she'd taken during lockdown suddenly clicked into something bigger: colour not as decoration, but as frequency, and how you can choose which one you wear each day.

Its a fascinating conversation that explores the idea of 'soul shades' - how each of us carries a dominant colour energy - and that mismatching it to our role or environment is often exactly why something feels off. By the end I found myself thinking about my own wardrobe completely differently - and about how much choice we actually have over the mood we bring to a day. I hope it resonates with you in a similar way.

Enjoy the show!

Ep 88: Softness as strength, with Laura Uglow07 Jul 202601:02:02

In today's episode, I sit down with Laura Uglow - mother, author, breathwork facilitator and soul guide healer - to talk about the winding road that led her into more than two decades supporting women through health, wellness and, eventually, deep inner work.

Laura traces how her practice evolved from the physical (nutrition, personal training, Pilates) into something far more holistic, after noticing that the women she worked with were carrying far more than tired muscles - they were exhausted from holding everything together for everyone else. That realisation, paired with her own experience of grief, burnout and anxiety, set her on the path to breathwork, Angelic Reiki, meditation and somatic practice, and ultimately to writing.

In fact we spend a good chunk of the conversation on her new book, Soul Freedom, and the 'Liberated Woman Method' that underpins it. Laura even reads two pieces from the book live on the episode, and there's something genuinely moving about hearing them in her own voice.

Perhaps what I most took away is Laura's resolve that softness is not weakness - that choosing yourself, slowing down, and trusting your own timing is its own kind of quiet power. If you've ever felt guilty for putting yourself first, this one's worth your time.

Ep 79: Rediscovering yourself in motherhood, with Rebecca Hogan03 Mar 202600:59:48

In today's episode, I chat with the wonderful Rebecca Hogan, whole-self life coach and newly published author.

From corporate marketing to London ad agencies, through a deeply personal fertility journey, retraining as a reflexologist and ultimately discovering coaching during the space that COVID unexpectedly gifted her — Rebecca's story is as fascinating as it is inspiring, and a powerful reminder that every chapter of our lives, even the difficult ones, can become the foundation for something meaningful.

We explore the concept of 'matrescence' — the identity shift that comes with becoming a mother — and why society's expectation that we simply 'bounce back' can be such a quick route to burnout and mum guilt. In fact Rebecca makes a compelling case for why motherhood is actually a creative, expansive time; an opportunity to ask ourselves who we are now, and how we want our lives to feel.

There's real wisdom in Rebecca's distinction between surviving and thriving — between living on autopilot and genuinely checking in with what matters most. We also celebrate the publication of Rebecca's debut book, Me to We: How to Rediscover Yourself and Truly Thrive in Motherhood — a three-part guide covering the truths of modern motherhood, rediscovering who you are as an evolving person, and stepping into your future self.

So if you're in the thick of early motherhood, feeling overwhelmed by all the plates you're spinning, or simply craving a little more joy and intention in your days, you'll leave this conversation feeling genuinely uplifted, and with plenty to reflect on.

Ep 78: Finding joy in the everyday, with Cat Googe17 Feb 202600:58:16

In today's episode, I chat with the wonderful Cat Googe, a conscious joy coach, laughter yoga facilitator, and self-proclaimed "Joy Queen" who is on a mission to help people reclaim joy as a daily practice rather than a distant destination.

In our conversation, Cat shares how she transitioned from a teaching career that left her feeling energetically mismatched and burnt out, to discovering laughter yoga at a well-being day - a moment that would completely change the direction of her life.

We delve deeply into Cat's joy philosophy, and how it doesn't have to be reserved for big occasions like weddings – and exists just as much in the tiniest day to day moments too. She conveys how building our "joy muscle" through neuroplasticity can help us weather life's challenges, and why joy and sadness can absolutely coexist.

It was also fascinating to hear Cat's insight into intentional laughter and how our bodies don't know the difference between "real" and "pretend" laughter — we still release endorphins and lower cortisol either way. She also shares her bold journey into the festival circuit, which has now become a core part of her business strategy, bringing laughter yoga to thousands of people across the UK.

So if you're feeling stuck in a career that no longer serves you, or simply curious about how to pro-actively cultivate happiness, Cat's heart-led guidance offers a refreshing reminder that we can choose joy right here, right now.

Ep 77: Building movement into everyday life, with Wendy Welpton03 Feb 202601:06:08

In today's episode, I chat with Wendy Welpton, the founder of Reclaim Movement, author of 'Move Well for Life,' and host of the 'Make Movement Matter' podcast.

Wendy shares her powerful evolution from a desk-bound career in fashion and wine marketing to becoming a movement specialist - a transformation sparked by a running injury at 40 that left her with chronic pain for four years. She reflects honestly about how this challenging experience led her to discover natural movement and the revolutionary idea that it's not just the hour we spend exercising that matters, but how we move throughout our entire day.

Wendy explains how our modern world has stripped away the natural movement patterns our bodies are designed for, and offers practical strategies to reclaim them without adding extra time to our already busy days.

Wendy's concept of 'stacking' really stood out for me - adding movement to tasks we're already doing, and how simple, playful adjustments transform everyday activities into opportunities to build strength, mobility and resilience for the future.

So whether you're dealing with pain, feeling stuck in sedentary patterns, or simply want to set yourself up for a healthier future, Wendy's down-to-earth advice and empowering perspective provide a roadmap to making movement matter in ways that fit seamlessly into real life.

Ep 76: Building businesses and breaking barriers, with Robyn Currie20 Jan 202600:57:34

In today's episode, I chat with the founder of The Business Nest, Robyn Currie, who shares her remarkable entrepreneurial journey from leaving school at the age of 16, to building multiple successful businesses before turning 30.

In our conversation, Robyn talks of the early start to her career, including launching a business as a side hustle at just 19, and how it eventually led to running a thriving family-friendly café for nearly 10 years.

We also explore how Robyn has gone about building The Business Nest into a vibrant networking community over the last three years, creating the supportive environment she herself was seeking post-pandemic. She also shares the realities of being self-employed whilst navigating motherhood, including why she deliberately brings her children to workshops to show other women that they too can do the same.

Robyn's story offers inspiration for anyone navigating their own entrepreneurial journey; if a major business pivot feels overwhelming, if you're searching for your community, or if you're wondering how to balance business growth with family life, her candid nature and grounded advice provide reassurance that moving forward is possible, even when it feels daunting.

Ep 75: Balancing corporate life with creative passion, with Caroline Kulik06 Jan 202601:01:17

In today's episode, I chat with Caroline Kulik, the founder of Eden Lane Interiors, who shares her fascinating experience of building a thriving business whilst still maintaining her corporate career.

Caroline conveys the pivotal moment when she realised that no one was going to hand her permission to create a different life, and that instead, she would have to take control and make that change herself, by making a business out of her passion. She describes the reality of managing both worlds as 'walking a very tight rope with a very fragile balance,' offering an honest perspective that moves beyond any superwoman narrative.

We explore how Caroline worked on her mindset to navigate the inevitable moments when it all feels too much, including developing a clear sense of purpose for her business and building a support network to lift her up on the days when self-belief wavers. She also shares how the lockdown period became a crucial turning point, when she enrolled on an interior design course, and discovered the profound impact the subsequent changes had on her family's wellbeing.

There's so much more here too; from Caroline's design philosophy, to practical interior design tips, and even a gorgeous sensory visualisation exercise. So whether you're dreaming of starting your own venture, navigating the balance between security and passion, or simply looking to transform your living space, Caroline's honesty and practical wisdom offer beautiful encouragement for the journey ahead.

Ep 74: Value led entrepreneurship, with Sam Chetwood23 Dec 202500:54:09

In today's episode, I chat with the founder of children's shoe fitting business CeCe & Me, Sam Chetwood, who shares how a frustrating shopping experience sparked a remarkable business idea: to create a more supportive, relaxed environment that prioritizes children's foot health, whilst actually making the process of selecting shoes an enjoyable one for all involved!

We start off as Sam opens up about her 15 years in corporate and financial PR, and the struggle for balance she came to face after returning from maternity leave - feeling pulled in two directions and unable to give her best either at work or at home. We learn that as a result, it was during her second maternity leave that Sam made the bold decision to leave corporate life, even without a clear plan for what came next.

As she reflects on building CeCe & Me from the ground up, we delve into the importance Sam places on her guiding business principles, and how building something of her own became a powerful way to show her daughters that they too could achieve anything they set their minds to.

So whether you're contemplating leaving corporate life, searching for your entrepreneurial path, or simply looking for encouragement on your business journey, Sam's honest reflections and deep authenticity offer inspiration for anyone ready to make a leap.

Ep 73: People First Finance, with Juliette Rivett09 Dec 202500:49:39

In today's episode, I chat with Juliette Rivett, a CFO turned small business accountant, who shares her remarkable journey from leaping into work at the tender age of 17, to the upper echelons of the corporate finance world.

In our conversation, Juliette shares a number of significant life experiences, from returning to education to gain her degree in later life, and following in her father's footsteps into financial services, to her deeply personal journey in discovering that her daughter has ADHD and autism, and the profound impact this had on her working life. Resonating throughout is a strong sense of Juliette's natural warmth, as she conveys her commitment to putting the human side first; something she attributes to her Christian faith.

Juliette also provides a number of valuable accounting tips and insights, walking us through the new 'Making Tax Digital' rules and their implications for UK sole traders, alongside actionable accounting tips that every small business owner needs to hear. She also explains her philosophy around client clarity, whether that means avoiding industry jargon entirely or taking the time to thoroughly explain the numbers in order to ensure that clients truly understand what's being presented to them rather than feeling overwhelmed or excluded.

Ep 72: Empowering parents in the digital age, with Jess Chalmers25 Nov 202500:39:15

In today's episode, I chat with Jess Chalmers, a digital safety expert who is on a mission to help guide parents through the complex world of online safety with confidence rather than fear.

Having started out in magazine advertising sales, before running Instagram accounts for local businesses, Jess explains how watching the Netflix documentary 'The Social Dilemma' sparked a profound realisation: that despite her social media expertise, she didn't feel equipped to keep her own children safe online. This moment of clarity was the catalyst for retraining and transforming her business entirely, as she became a specialist in digital safety, working with parents, schools, corporations, and young people themselves.

In this conversation, we explore the overwhelming anxiety many parents feel about their children's online lives, and Jess explains how education is the key to empowerment. She emphasises the importance of doing what's right for your own family rather than worrying about what others are doing, and shares why having open, ongoing conversations with children about their digital world is crucial for building trust and resilience.

It was clear to me how Jess's empathetic approach makes internet safety feel so much more accessible and actionable, and she shares lots of practical tips that listeners can implement immediately, to help with their family's online safety too.

So whether you're feeling overwhelmed by the digital landscape or simply want to feel more confident in guiding your children online, Jess's practical wisdom and supportive approach will leave you feeling both equipped and truly empowered.

Ep 71: Authenticity through sound healing, with Monica Bazzani11 Nov 202500:53:12

In today's episode, I'm delighted to welcome Monica Bazzani, a sound therapist, Reiki master and Qigong teacher, whose career path is a testament to following your heart and embracing change.

Monica is incredibly open in our conversation, as she shares her diverse professional journey before eventually finding her true calling in the transformative world of sound therapy and energy work through her business 'Luna Sound and Energy.'

She explains how she creates immersive experiences where clients are quite literally 'bathed in sound,' and the profound impact this has on nervous system regulation and overall wellbeing. Her approach is both deeply healing and wonderfully accessible!

A theme throughout our conversation is Monica's emphasis on vulnerability and authenticity - how showing up as her true self has enabled deeper connections with others who recognise their own experiences in her story. She speaks beautifully about the importance of channeling her inner child, allowing laughter and joy to flow freely, and the transformative power of simply being present in each moment.

Monica's journey offers both inspiration and practical wisdom for anyone exploring alternative healing modalities, considering a career change, or simply looking for permission to embrace more joy and authenticity in their daily life.

Ep 70: From corporate burnout to transformative healing, with Gabi Brown28 Oct 202500:52:38

In today's episode, I chat with the inspiring Gabi Brown, founder of The Leopard Mind, who shares her remarkable journey from fashion PR professional to transformative life guide and sound healer.

Gabi relays her early career in fashion PR, where she navigated the challenges of being a quieter personality in an industry dominated by big, flamboyant voices. While she loved the relationship-building aspects of her work and flourished in marketing and creative writing, she found herself increasingly drained as her role shifted toward a sales-driven focus that left little room for creativity.

We explore how Gabi had already begun planting the seeds of change by training as a beauty therapist at night school while still working full-time, eventually launching her own mobile beauty business. This venture became her 'permission slip' to prove she didn't have to exist in the traditional 9-to-5 world, and when she finally left her corporate role in October 2018, she discovered something unexpected: working one-to-one with clients created profound opportunities for connection, and she found herself naturally offering emotional support alongside her beauty services.

Gabi shares the beautiful synchronicity of how she first experienced a sound bath, inspiring her to train as a transformative life guide and sound healer, drawing deeply from her own lived experience. We delve into fascinating concepts including neuroplasticity (and the brain's remarkable capacity for change), using affirmations effectively and the concept of vibration and how everything is constantly in motion.

So whether you're feeling stuck in a career that no longer serves you, curious about alternative healing or ready to embrace your own capacity for transformation, Gabi's honest storytelling and holistic wisdom offer both inspiration and practical tools for creating meaningful change.

Ep 87: Planning with purpose, with Michele Ferron23 Jun 202600:48:24

In today's episode, I chat with Michele Ferron, the founder of Good Tuesday - a beautifully designed stationery brand built around a simple but powerful idea: that planning isn't just a productivity tool, it's a way of making space for the things that matter most to you.

Michele's story is a wonderfully unconventional one. Living on the Caribbean island of St. Martin, studying in the Netherlands and eventually finding herself in Cornwall - not entirely by design - her path to building a business was anything but linear, but created a rich foundation of layered experience, all of which feeds directly into what she's building today.

We discuss how it all began with a single Etsy listing, running a values-led, B Corp-certified business, the reality of juggling a growing team of ten (including her life partner) whilst bringing up three children, all with a refreshing honesty about what works and what doesn't.

Michele also shares how being diagnosed with ADHD shaped the very heart of Good Tuesday's mission - and why the right planning tools can be genuinely life-changing, not just convenient.

Ep 69: Finding meaning through feng shui, with Katie Bradbury14 Oct 202500:54:51

In today's episode, I chat with Katie Bradbury, a Feng Shui consultant who made the bold leap from a demanding corporate tech career to building a business centred around ancient wisdom and intentional living.

Katie shares her journey from working long hours as an apprentice at an American-owned tech company - progressing professionally but losing herself in the process - to the pivotal moment that changed everything. She relays how after the loss of close friend and colleague, she witnessed how quickly workplace routines returned to normal, leaving her with a profound sense of feeling replaceable and questioning whether her work truly mattered. This awakening sparked her search for something more meaningful, even though she didn't yet know what that would be.

We explore the unexpected catalyst that led Katie to Feng Shui: noticing dramatic behavioural changes in her dog after moving to a new property. What began as curiosity evolved into conviction when she experimented with rearranging items in her home, and witnessed remarkable professional breakthroughs for both herself and her partner. It was enough to inspire her to save up, leave her corporate role, and become certified as a Feng Shui consultant.

Katie's mission is to make Feng Shui accessible to everyone; she shares practical starting points that anyone can implement: from decluttering, to viewing your home as a 3D vision board that reflects what you're attracting into your life.

So whether you're feeling stuck professionally, seeking more meaning in your work, or simply curious about creating positive change through your living space, Katie's story and practical wisdom offer an inspiring roadmap for transformation.

Ep 68: Embracing visibility, with Abi Moore30 Sep 202500:51:39

In today's episode, I chat with the hugely talented Abi Moore, a photographer and visibility coach who specialises in helping quietly ambitious, camera-shy businesswomen elevate their marketing.

Abi shares her fascinating career transition from corporate PR to becoming a successful entrepreneur and mother. She opens up about how starting a family sparked her pivot to photography, drawing on skills from her media degree to create a career that offered both creative fulfillment and the flexibility she needed as a new mum.

What began as family and baby photography naturally evolved into business & brand photography. Abi discovered that her business clients needed more than just beautiful images—they needed guidance on how to use those images effectively for visibility and marketing. This realisation led to her current and expanded mission of helping women step into the spotlight of their own businesses.

I was particularly struck by Abi's honest admission about starting her own business as a 'faceless' enterprise, only to realise she needed to practice what she was preaching. Her journey from hiding behind her camera to becoming the face of her brand is both relatable and inspiring, and the positive impact this shift had on her business speaks volumes.

We explore so much including how Abi now guides her clients through the same confidence journey she experienced herself, encouraging them to step just beyond their comfort zone in many areas indeed. She shares her philosophy that "done is better than perfect" when it comes to social content, and discusses the cultural barriers that have historically discouraged women from putting themselves forward.

Abi offers practical wisdom about the balance between helping clients look their best while acknowledging that what matters most is how confident they feel in front of the camera. Do listen to the end where Abi shares her three essential tips for creating authentic, engaging content that resonates with audiences.

So whether you're struggling with visibility in your own business, feeling camera-shy, or simply looking to embrace a more confident version of yourself online, Abi's compassionate approach and practical strategies provide a clear path forward.

Ep 67: Finding Joy in the Everyday, with Leah Evans09 Sep 202501:06:38

In today's episode, I chat with the wonderful Leah Evans, a 'joy coach' who helps people discover the extraordinary power contained within ordinary moments. Leah shares her inspiring journey from teaching, through burnout, and ultimately to finding a deeper understanding of what it means to live life 'with the lid off.'

Her personal story takes us from her university days in Cambridge through to a rewarding career in teaching, where she found immense fulfilment not just working with reception-age children, but in immersing herself in creating pantomimes and performances.

As a mother of three, Leah candidly discusses how the all-encompassing nature of teaching - especially for those of us who feel compelled to get everything 'done' - combined with the demands of motherhood, eventually led to burnout. Her story will resonate with anyone who has felt overwhelmed by trying to juggle multiple demanding roles.

Throughout our conversation, we explore Leah's beautiful concept of seeking 'ordinary joy' rather than chasing extraordinary highs—a gentle reminder that whilst happiness can be fleeting and circumstance-dependent, joy runs so much deeper. This deeper joy, as she reveals, can actually serve as a powerful antidote to stress, offering us a more sustainable way to navigate life's challenges.

We also delve into the inspiration behind Leah's philosophy of 'living life with the lid off'—embracing freedom and removing the constraints we often place on ourselves. This naturally leads us to examine how our inner critical voice becomes one of our most frequent dialogues, and the practical techniques available for transforming that self-talk into something more positive and nurturing.

So whether you're feeling burnt out, struggling with your inner critic, or simply wanting to rediscover joy in your everyday life, Leah's compassionate wisdom and practical approach offer a roadmap to living more freely and joyfully.

Ep 66: Creativity, motherhood and finding calm, with Imogen Partridge05 Aug 202500:53:35

In today's episode, I chat with the highly talented Imogen Partridge, an artist and interior designer who shares her inspiring journey from working with architects to discovering her true calling through art and calligraphy.

Imogen opens up about how her artistic career took an unexpected leap forward when she began experimenting with calligraphy and started using Instagram as an accountability tool for her painting practice. She honestly discusses the internal struggle many creatives face—the fear that turning your passion into work might destroy the very joy that drew you to it in the first place.

As a mother, Imogen shares the profound realisation that even just half an hour of creative time here and there during early motherhood helped her 'feel just a little bit like me' and gave her a sense of purpose whilst experiencing the joy that comes from being able to do what you love for a living.

We explore some really important themes around creativity and modern life, including Imogen's belief that anyone can be creative—it's often simply a shift in mindset that's needed. She makes a compelling case for why having a creative outlet as an adult is so important, especially when we tend to let these things slip away from our lives.

So whether you're looking to reconnect with your creative side, juggling motherhood with personal passions, or simply seeking a more balanced approach to life, Imogen's thoughtful perspective offers both inspiration and practical wisdom.

Ep 65: Content confidence, with Kate Llewellyn08 Jul 202501:01:28

In today's episode, I chat with Kate Llewellyn, a professional content writer who has built her business around helping others find their voice and communicate with clarity. Kate shares her journey from the world of publishing into entrepreneurship, driven by her love of words and the unexpected opportunity that came with voluntary redundancy.

Kate opens up about how becoming a mother reshaped her career trajectory, and how the challenges of COVID-19 further influenced her business evolution. She reveals the insightful decision-making processes that have guided her path, including the crucial step of networking before she had fully defined her business direction—a move that proved instrumental in shaping her future.

We explore Kate's positioning as a professional content writer through her online membership programme, and her observations about the lack of visibility for female business owners, discussing how we often fall prey to the 'self-doubt tax.'

I was intrigued by Kate's insights on social media and mental health, especially how business owners are particularly susceptible to imposter syndrome and negative comparison; she makes a particularly astute comparison between modern marketing and the simplicity of the pre-internet era's local village notice board.

So whether you're struggling with content confidence, looking to network more authentically, or simply want to find your voice in your business, Kate's practical wisdom and honest reflections offer invaluable guidance for building a business that truly reflects who you are.

Ep 64: What success and failure have in common24 Jun 202500:14:34

In today's solo episode, I'm stepping back behind the mic on my own to share some insights that struck me while re-reading Napoleon Hill's 'Think and Grow Rich.'

I explore the fascinating concept that success and failure actually have something quite profound in common - they're both largely the results of habit. It's such a simple yet powerful realisation that different types of habits will lead us toward success, while others can quietly steer us toward failure.

Throughout the episode, I share practical examples of small habit changes that can create big shifts - from ditching the snooze button (including Hal Elrod's clever alarm clock trick!) to being more mindful about our phone habits and adding more movement to our day; these seemingly small changes can compound over time to create significant results.

I'll be honest - I feel a bit awkward sharing habit advice because I certainly don't have everything figured out! But that's exactly why regular reflection is so important, and why I also mention some free resources on my website including a simple habit tracker.

So whether you're looking to make gentle shifts in your daily routine, or you're ready to be braver about changing habits that aren't serving you, this episode offers compassionate guidance for taking it one small step at a time.

Ep 63: Midlife awakening and reclaiming your identity, with Juliet Goodwin10 Jun 202500:52:13

In today's episode, I chat with Juliet Goodwin, a nutritional therapist who brings a unique perspective to health and wellbeing, combining her background as an NHS nurse with her expertise in holistic nutrition and emotional healing techniques.

Juliet shares her inspiring journey of transitioning from nursing into nutritional therapy, all while juggling the demands of working and bringing up a young family. What sets Juliet apart is her 'whole person' approach to identifying the causes of illness and stress - describing herself as 'a health detective,' looking at aspects such as her clients' life timeline, the body's systems and the kinds of psychological elements that can impact wellbeing.

One of the fascinating aspects of Juliet's practice is her integration of EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) tapping into her offerings. She explains what it is, how it works, and why it's so effective as a means of de-stressing – and even how it helped her pass her driving test!

We explore the concept of 'midlife awakening'—a particularly relevant topic for women who have often spent years putting everyone else first by default. This was particularly interesting in the context of menopause and perimenopause, and how these transitions can be conveyed as wholly negative experiences; yet she presents them as powerful opportunities—a perspective that feels both refreshing and empowering.

So whether you're navigating midlife transitions, looking to take a more holistic approach to your health, or simply ready to make yourself more of a priority, Juliet's compassionate insights and practical wisdom offer a roadmap to reclaiming your identity and wellbeing.

Ep 62: Fulfillment and flexibility from a franchise, with Feola McCandlish27 May 202500:45:56

In today's episode, I chat with the wonderful Feola McCandlish, who shares her inspiring journey as a Daisy First Aid franchisee. Feola opens up about her transition from a demanding career in graphic design and marketing to finding a business model that allowed her to balance work with family life.

In our conversation, Feola explains how she struggled to return to a traditional workplace after having her first child, feeling torn between her career and desire to be present for her children; an all too familiar dilemma for so many of us! After investigating various options, she discovered Daisy First Aid—a franchise teaching life-saving first aid skills to parents, schools, and businesses—which and this proved to be a perfect fit for her circumstances.

Perhaps what struck me most in our conversation, was Feola's profound personal transformation. She reveals how stepping far outside her comfort zone—particularly in overcoming her fear of public speaking—has built her confidence in ways she could never have imagined.

We also explore the benefits of the franchise model, and how it can provide autonomy of business ownership alongside the support of an established community, as well as the flexibility that allows being fully present as a mother.

So whether you're considering a career change, looking for flexible work options, or simply interested in the franchising model, Feola's journey story offers valuable insights about finding fulfilment through purposeful work that truly accommodates your personal priorities too.

Ep 61: Wise Words and Deep Vulnerability, with Anna Mathur13 May 202500:55:00

In today's episode, I'm thrilled to present my conversation with psychotherapist, author and speaker Anna Mathur. I've had the pleasure to know Anna since I wrote a poem for her book The Uncomfortable Truth and she asked me to read it at her book signing event, so I'm overjoyed to welcome her to the podcast to discuss her journey, her learnings, and that wonderful book 'The Uncomfortable Truth.'

Over the course of this episode, we cover everything from her uni days, to her journey into psychotherapy, her refreshingly fluid approach to career planning, as well as exploring how we can apply the notion that what really matters is living in alignment with the things that set our hearts on fire. I'm SO on board!

I was truly honoured that Anna reflected with incredible honesty about her experience of motherhood, and amongst other things, how making a difference to others became a source of positivity at a time when she was otherwise struggling, giving her a sense of identity and purpose that was all too elusive at the time.

In discussing 'The Uncomfortable Truth,' I particularly enjoy her take on failure, and the premise that it is so vital a process for all of us, making it so important that we learn to embrace it; we explore why failure feels so personal, and how much the fear of failure is actually about what other people think, yet we also discuss techniques and mindsets to help channel and overcome it.

If you're looking for something to inspire you this week, I urge you to pop this episode on, and immersed yourself in Anna's wisdom. You'll be so greatful that you did!

Ep 60: Building authentic confidence, with Julie Smith29 Apr 202500:50:43

In today's episode, I chat with the inspirational Julie Smith, a highly sought-after executive coach, the founder of Talent Sprout, and author of the award-winning book "Coach Yourself Confident."

Julie shares her fascinating journey from a corporate career in HR, to becoming an expert in the field of self-confidence. She opens up about her own personal confidence journey with all of its ups and downs, as well as sharing that confidence isn't a constant state but rather contextual to specific situations - a realization that can help us all be kinder to ourselves.

We delve into Julie's powerful concept of a "self-doubt tax" - the hidden costs we pay when a lack of confidence leads to missed opportunities or exhaustion from overcompensating with impossibly high standards. She reveals how setting reasonable goals and expectations for ourselves can be transformative, and identifies the "confidence saboteurs" that can erode our self-belief when we least expect it.

I was particularly struck by Julie's approach to understanding our 'inner critic' as a sort of well-intentioned but overly cautious protection mechanism; She shares practical strategies, to help create distance between ourselves and those self-doubting thoughts.

So whether you're navigating a career transition, facing new challenges, or simply want to quiet that nagging voice of self-doubt, Julie's practical wisdom and compassionate approach provide a roadmap to authentic confidence that works in real-world situations.

Ep 86: Leading with courage and compassion, with James O'Keefe09 Jun 202601:00:45

In today's episode, I sit down with James O'Keefe - award-winning leadership and performance coach, certified breathwork practitioner, and former professional MMA fighter.

What makes James's story so compelling is where it begins. He speaks openly and unflinchingly about growing up in circumstances that led him down a very dark path - violence, drug dealing, and a complete absence of healthy male role models. It's this lived experience, hard-won and hard-earned, that gives his message its extraordinary weight, because when James talks about accountability, resilience, and inner freedom, he's not speaking from a textbook.

We explore one of his most powerful ideas: that we imprison ourselves with stories we formed as children - stories that were never even truly ours to begin with - and that the path to freedom starts not with fixing what's around us, but by going inward first. His seven-step system (starting, brilliantly, with just learning to breathe properly through your nose) offers an accessible, genuinely practical framework for navigating confrontation, stress, and self-doubt - and as James points out, every single step is completely free.

This one stayed with me long after we stopped recording — and I think it will do the same for you.

Ep 59: Creative Persistence: Writing Your Way to Success with Kathleen Whyman15 Apr 202500:56:08

In today's episode, I sit down with author Kathleen Whyman, who shares her inspiring journey from aspiring journalist to published novelist. Kathleen's story of persistence and self-belief is one that will resonate with anyone pursuing creative dreams alongside life's other demands.

We cover everything from how she started out, to how she writes, and manages to balance her career with the rest of life's commitments. Kathleen opens up about writing her first book during pregnancy - a manuscript she initially felt wasn't good enough for publication but that taught her the invaluable lesson that she could indeed finish writing a book. She reveals the fascinating story behind her inspiration and the seven-year journey from enrolling on a writing course to finally seeing it in print.

What stands out in our conversation is Kathleen's unwavering determination. Despite setbacks, she maintained an absolute belief that her book deserved to be published, a mindset that ultimately led to her subsequent success, and multiple book releases

Parents will especially appreciate Kathleen's candid reflections on the balancing act of running a household while pursuing a career as a businesswoman and author - and the guilt that often accompanies these multiple roles. She shares her creative process, including how she crafts her books and revisits drafts to sharpen the humour, and I was touched to learn that one of my own podcast episodes helped inspire Kathleen to push beyond her comfort zone! We also discuss the power of networking, particularly how connecting with other women has opened doors and helped her reach her target audience.

So whether you're an aspiring creative, a parent juggling multiple responsibilities, or simply someone working toward a long-held dream, Kathleen's practical wisdom and honest reflections offer both inspiration and insight alike, alongside her constant trademark humour! Enjoy the show!

Ep 58: Rewriting Your Health Story, with Cara Metz01 Apr 202500:52:47

In today's episode, I chat with over-40s fitness guru Cara Metz, a truly remarkable woman who's transformed her life by understanding that real health goes far beyond physical movement.

Cara's journey is a powerful testament to the importance of mindset, self-compassion, and holistic wellness - and how sometimes, the most significant changes can start with just fifteen minutes a day.

We discuss her childhood as a high achieving dancer, and how her path wasn't a straightforward success story, as she candidly shares the challenges she faced. We reflect upon how she uncovered a profound truth, and how this moment of clarity sparked a transformative journey of understanding about nurturing your entire being - body, heart, and soul. It was to become a lifelong passion.

Now as an inspiring fitness and wellbeing instructor with an astounding following, Cara's philosophy is beautifully simple yet profound: we need to become the woman we were meant to be, not the woman that life's challenges have diminished. This mindset has allowed her to develop her powerful 15-minutes-a-day principle, which also forms the foundation of her book, "The Menopause Metabolism Fix".

So, whether you're struggling with health challenges, looking to reframe your approach to wellness, or simply need inspiration to make meaningful life changes, Cara's story offers a refreshing and empowering perspective.

Ep 57: Business growth and personal balance, with Tamsyn Jefferson18 Mar 202500:49:00

In today's episode, guest Tamsyn Jefferson, founder of Seed Accounting, shares her entrepreneurial journey and the valuable insights she's gained along the way. Tamsyn shares so much valuable and practical wisdom for small business owners, especially around financial management; she also explains why employing an accountant can be a game-changer for your business, and about her bold decision to hire staff earlier than planned—a move that proved to be the right call, despite initial hesitation.

We also delve into the personal challenges Tamsyn has overcome, as she openly discusses how she built her business whilst navigating the challenges of motherhood and going through a divorce, as well as how she balances her professional commitments with being present for her children.

I love the guiding principle that Tamsyn shares; that 'you should never look back other than to see how far you've come;' a powerful reminder for all of us to be kinder to ourselves on our entrepreneurial journeys.

So whether you're just starting out, or looking to improve your business practices, Tamsyn's practical advice and honest reflections offer invaluable guidance for the road ahead. Enjoy the show!

Ep 56: Big Fish Energy: Speaking your courage, with Hannah Isted04 Mar 202501:06:03

In today's episode, I sit down with Hannah Isted, the amazing founder of HI Communications! Hannah is such an inspiration - she's built an incredible business that's absolutely powered by her infectious passion and energy, all while working around her health needs. Her story really shows how you can create success on your own terms and build something that fits YOUR life (not the other way around!).

We dive into plenty in this episode, from the benefits of starting a business when you're young, to how important it is to have people in your corner who get just as excited about your business wins as you do! Hannah opens up about how channelling all her enthusiasm into those early days helped her grow her client list like crazy, and how she deliberately crafted a business that works WITH her Crohn's disease, not against it.

She shares this fantastic concept she calls "big fish energy" (I love this!) and the magic that happens when you actually speak your dreams out loud. And for anyone feeling totally swamped by marketing (we've all been there!), Hannah's ten-minute marketing tips are absolute gold. She's all about "done is better than perfect" - such a refreshing approach! Plus, her strategies for recycling social media content will save you tons of time and stress. No more reinventing the wheel with every post!

Whether you're looking to infuse your business with your own unique spark, juggling health challenges while chasing your dreams, or just need some no-nonsense marketing advice that actually works in real life - this conversation with Hannah is packed with wisdom from someone who's walking the talk. Enjoy the show!

Ep 55: Movement, mindset and motherhood, with Charlotte Randall18 Feb 202500:52:12

In today's episode, I chat with Charlotte Randall, whose journey from professional dancer to wellness entrepreneur showcases the power of adaptability and holistic health. From her background performing in the West End, Charlotte brings a unique perspective on how movement and mindset work together to create lasting well-being.

In this inspiring conversation, we explore Charlotte's path of balancing life as a solo parent and business owner, managing her entrepreneurial journey while her husband is away working all over the world. She shares candidly about the challenges and triumphs of maintaining both a business and family life, offering valuable insights for others juggling multiple roles.

Charlotte's approach to fitness and wellness stands out for its comprehensive nature. Rather than focusing solely on physical exercise, she emphasizes the vital connection between mind and body, integrating nutritional wisdom with movement practice. Her innovative "You Project" embodies this holistic philosophy, showing how true wellness emerges from addressing both mental and physical health.

Whether you're interested in entrepreneurship, seeking balance in your life, or looking to transform your approach to health and wellness, Charlotte's practical wisdom and authentic insights will inspire you to embrace a more holistic path to well-being. Enjoy the show!

Ep 54: Ditch your friends, and go alone04 Feb 202500:16:03

In this solo episode, I challenge conventional wisdom about networking and business events with a simple message: sometimes, going alone is the best strategy for success!

Drawing from my own experiences, I explore why the comfort of bringing a friend to business events might actually be holding you back from meaningful connections and opportunities. While it may feel counter-intuitive, I make the case for stepping out of your comfort zone, and into the realm of solo networking.

Don't worry, this isn't about abandoning friendships – far from it. Instead, it's about recognizing when our natural inclination to stick with familiar faces might be limiting our professional growth and networking potential. So I include some practical insights on how to approach solo networking with confidence, turning what might feel like a challenging situation into an opportunity for personal and professional development. Drawing from real life examples, I share how choosing to attend events alone has transformed my networking journey and even enabled some of the closest and most connected relationships I cherish to this day - relationships that almost certainly wouldn't have blossomed had I stayed in my comfort zone.

So whether you're a seasoned networker looking to enhance your approach or someone who finds business events intimidating, this episode offers a fresh perspective on how going it alone might be the key to unlocking your networking potential.

So get ready to challenge your assumptions and discover the hidden advantages of flying solo!

Ep 52: The Power of Kindness for Success, with Kim Stokes07 Jan 202501:05:33

Today's episode dives deep into the power of self-compassion and redefining success, with Kim Stokes, owner and coach at Kindness For Success. With a varied and interesting background in corporate HR, Kim brings a unique perspective on navigating career transitions and personal growth, but crucially, with the focus upon self-kindness.

In this heartfelt conversation, we explore Kim's journey from corporate life through redundancy to launching her own business. She shares candidly about handling the emotional upheaval that comes with unexpected career changes, and how she transformed that challenge into an opportunity for reinvention.

One of the most powerful themes we explore is Kim's approach to success - it's not about "having it all," but rather defining what "your all" looks like. This perspective helps break free from the perfectionism trap that leaves so many feeling like they're falling short.

With remarkable openness, Kim shares her own experiences with anxiety and mental health, including her creative approach to managing her inner critic (whom she's named 'Gertrude!'). Please note that this episode includes discussion of mental health and suicide awareness, including Kim's charitable work for the Mind charity.

So whether you're navigating a career transition, building a business, or simply seeking a more compassionate approach to success, Kim's insights and practical wisdom will inspire you to embrace kindness as your superpower. Enjoy the show!

Today's episode is all about bringing your awesome self to the spotlight - and trust me, you're going to love it! I'm chatting with Vicki Knights, a Visibility Strategist and Branding Photographer who believes that being visible isn't just necessary, it can actually be fun!

Vicki has a magical way of turning people's brand stories into stunning photos that truly capture who they are. In this conversation, we dive deep into everything from how Vicki's background in radio helped shape her business model, to those pesky inner voices that hold us back, and how stepping into the spotlight can feel scary and simultaneously absolutely amazing.

Vicki also shares some genuinely practical tips for anyone who's ever felt nervous about putting themselves 'out there'; whether you're just starting your business or you've been at it for years, Vicki's insights will give you that little boost of courage you didn't know you needed.

It sounds amazing!

Ep 85: Branding, bold moves and the art of getting rejected, with Liz Mosley26 May 202600:59:32

What if rejection wasn't something to dread, but something to actively collect? That's just one of the ideas that makes today's guest, Liz Mosley - graphic designer, brand specialist and host of the Building Your Brand podcast - such a refreshing voice for small business owners.

In today's episode, Liz walks us through a journey that began with a firm 'I will never work for myself,' that eventually flipped into a thriving design business she's been running full-time for the past six years. Her story is one of gradual, intuitive steps rather than grand plans - and there's a lot of comfort in that for anyone who feels like they should have it all mapped out by now.

I love what Liz is all about, and some of her philisophies really resonated with me - not least the idea that your branding is the business equivalent of putting on an outfit that genuinely feels like you - and how the confidence that follows can transform how you show up, sell and grow. But you particularly won't want to miss Liz's 'rejection challenge' - and how flipping the script on rejection from something shameful into something to pursue actually flooded her with 'yeses.' Three years on, and it has opened up SO many doors for her that likely would otherwise have remained unopened. Its been properly transformational for her, and it could be for you too. But that's enough frome me, enjoy the show!

Ep 49: Cultivating your authentic self, with Laura-Mai Edwards25 Nov 202400:51:16

How do you measure success? At the height of her career, Laura-Mai Edwards successfully climbed the corporate ladder to Chief of Staff for Reuters Editorial. Destination complete. Or so she thought. In fact, her journey was only just beginning as her mental health hit rock bottom.

Today Laura-Mai is the founder of Root Beginnings, offering mind-body coaching, seasonal workshops and retreats.

During this episode I quite literally take a deep breath and slow things down with Laura-Mai. We talk about her childhood, connecting with nature, seasons and the rhythm of life, braving the wilderness and committing to who you want to be, I'm also introduced to the beautiful concept of a Life Garden.  So, if you're feeling uprooted, it's time to tune in and get grounded.

I spent much of this conversation with my eyes closed… meandering. Take a listen and you'll understand why - enjoy the show!

Ep 47: Harnessing Movement to Explore Emotion, with Nahid De Belgeonne29 Oct 202400:53:02

Is your nervous system feeling a little frayed? Do you trust and recognise your feelings? In today's episode I'm delving even deeper into the practice of Somatic Movement as a means to connect with our physical and emotional wellbeing.

And I'm delighted to welcome Nahid De Belgeonne, Somatic Movement Educator, breath and yoga teacher and author of 'Soothe – the book your nervous system has been longing for'. Using movement to process and regulate emotions is something that Nahid has practised intuitively throughout her life, and now she specialises in teaching people with burnout, chronic anxiety and trauma issues.

Nahid has lived such a varied life and achieved so much working across some very different business sectors, but Nahid discovered that working hard comes with its own challenges as she found herself floundering on the edges of burnout.

We cover a lot during this discussion including work culture, the need for self-reflection, searching for 'something else' in midlife, the complexities and simplicities of the nervous system and how to bring about change.

So, let's all just take a breath and prepare to get curious as we delve deeper into the body and mind…

Ep 44: You Don't Have to Struggle to Show You Care, with Louise Brooks17 Sep 202401:05:16

In this episode I welcome Louise Brooks back to the podcast… and what a joy it was too! I'd call this less of an interview and more of a conversation (a REALLY LOVELY ONE!) – a bit like one you'd have with one of your close friends, but the beauty of this one is that not only has Louise become a friend to me, but she is an exceptionally wise, inspiring and compassionate parenting coach as well. As you'll hear, we both allowed ourselves to get really open and honest, and in doing so, we were able to unpick situations and challenges that we've individually faced. There are so many golden nuggets for you to take away including some around self-belief and confidence, parenting and being brave.

I trust this episode is one that will offer you comfort, reassurance and permission to draw breath whilst recognising just how far you have come on your own journey.

Ep 42: Workout Your Mind as Well as Your Body, with Kate Eckman06 Apr 202300:45:55

Today I speak with Kate Eckman, a broadcast journalist, TV personality and author of The Full Spirit Workout: A Ten-Step System to Shed Your Self-Doubt, Strengthen Your Spiritual Core, and Create a Fun and Fulfilling Life.

Kate brings her expertise in communications, performance, and mindfulness to her practice as a success coach for business leaders and professional athletes. Passionate about mindfulness practices for both brain and body health, she is also a meditation teacher and course creator for the Insight Timer app.

It is important that I let you know that we speak about suicidal thoughts and indeed suicide of loved ones in this episode, and so if this is something you might find triggering, it might be best to skip this one.

In this conversation, we cover the importance of talking about our struggles, and Kate shares how she has been thankful for complete turmoil at times in her life, deeming it a gift and a treasure once out the other side. We of course talk about her book and she shares how once you get to a certain level of inner spirit fitness you will see the effects across your life … improved relationships, more creativity, higher level performance to name but a few!

For those who have never done a spiritual practice, Kate has a fabulous and achievable starting point for you, so tune in to find out. We cover so much in this deep and meaningful conversation and I know you will take so very much from it …

Ep 41: Building a Successful Online Business, with Ciara Attwell16 Mar 202301:03:28

Today I speak with Ciara Attwell founder of My Fussy Eater & Pick Plates. As well as running two businesses, Ciara is a food writer, photographer and cookbook author too!

Through her own personal experience of fussy eating kids, Ciara gives practical advice on how to overcome picky eating at home and encourage a more varied and healthy diet.

Since launching her website in 2014, Ciara has gone on to help thousands of families with her quick and easy recipes and food ideas for children.

In 2018 Ciara launched her recipe App and also published two cookbooks, both of which have been bestsellers in their categories – her third cookbook hit the shelves at the beginning of 2023.

In 2020 Ciara launched Pick Plates, a children's tableware brand designed to help picky eaters, children with autism or children with sensory food aversions to improve their eating and overall relationship with food.

In our conversation Ciara shares her journey from the very beginning which I always find so very fascinating! She offers an insight to so many of the wise moves she made along the way, where she learned her online business skills from and how she did it, whilst parenting a toddler and a new born. There are so many golden nuggets for you to feast on!

Ciara's business has continued to grow from strength to strength and there is no sign of this go-getter easing up as she continues to develop new ideas, business areas and her team as well.

Enjoy this chance to get inside the head of a bold and fearless business owner who has so much to share!

It was an honour to chat with Ciara and I know you'll take so much from it too.

Enjoy the show!

Ep 40: The Healing Power of a Heartfelt Business, with Caroline Stafford02 Mar 202300:57:07

Today's conversation is with Caroline Stafford, founder & creator of The Kitsch Hen. The powerful mission of this beautiful business is to spread kindness and brighten people's days with hand-stamped biscuits.

As with so many of the business owners I interview, Caroline didn't ever 'plan' to launch a business in biscuits and it was nothing like her previous jobs, rather it evolved directly from her heart, when despite going through a horribly tough time in her own life, she thoughtfully crafted hand-stamped biscuits with messages of love, hope and encouragement for those she knew who were also facing struggles. Of course these biscuits were gratefully received and Caroline realised that if she loved sending them to friends and family in their moments of need, then she surely couldn't be the only one. And so her business journey began.

Caroline speaks with grace & vulnerability as she shares the tough times she faced during a 10 year long IVF journey; she shares how the business was one of the things that kept her afloat. The Kitsch Hen is something Caroline has nurtured and loved and it gives her true sense of purpose and meaning.

We talk around the ups and downs of running a business and how slowing down when you run a business is hard yet so important. We also touch on finding balance (and if it's even possible!) as well as creating a life that feels good over looking good.

Listen on to hear more of Caroline's story & wisdom and be sure to check out her website too!

Ep 84: Marketing, sales confidence and sustainable growth, with Emma Hodges12 May 202600:53:15

Its episode 84 of the HDSDI podcast, and this week I chat with the brilliant Emma Hodges, founder of Biscuit Communications and a Digital Women award winner, about the real mechanics of marketing and sales for small business owners - and why so many of us are accidentally getting in our own way!

Starting off by covering Emma's wonderfully organic journey from corporate marketing into freelancing, we soon get into the nitty gritty of her super strength: marketing, covering everything from why it can take up to 28 touchpoints before someone buys from you, how to reframe sales as simply continuing a conversation rather than chasing, and where most sales actually die — in the silence after the initial exchange.

There's also a refreshingly honest conversation about 'accidental pipeline sabotage' - the way so many of us fixate on finding cold leads while overlooking the warm ones already in front of us - and Emma shares three concrete actions listeners can take straight away to address it.

So you might be wrestling with comparison-itis, dreading sales conversations, or simply wondering why your marketing doesn't seem to be converting. If so, this episode is the one for you, as Emma's practical approach will offer you a clear path forward.

Ep 39: Determination with Style, with Sallie King16 Feb 202300:50:24

Today's conversation is with Sallie King, a former lawyer turned furniture designer who started her own furniture brand Urbansize in 2015. Having grown frustrated at the lack of petite furniture basics when she moved into her flat in Greenwich, Sallie decided to design her own instead, before making the bold move to build herself a new career entirely.

We talk about her sources of inspiration, her determination not to take 'no' for an answer, and some of the personal obstacles she has had to navigate throughout the process. Sallie shares so much authenticity and wisdom in such a relatable way, I just know you'll find it as inspirational as I did!

Ep 37: The Power of Consistency, with Kendra Alley19 Jan 202300:57:02

Today I'm excited to bring you Kendra Alley, a barre instructor and so much more. Kendra's business, barreALLEY, is a virtual fitness company offering new classes each week that are jam-packed with low-impact, dynamic movements of opposition paired with balance and cardio to promote proper body mechanics, endurance and posture.
