Evil Dead 2 Brings People Together and It's Still The Greatest Movie Ever Made!!!20 Mar 202501:03:28

That title says it all, I believe that Sam Rami's Evil Dead @ is the Greatest movie ever made. Sure that's just one podcasts opinion but We have a little help from some family this week to back up our case.

Evil Dead II (1987) is a cult classic horror-comedy film directed by Sam Raimi. It serves as both a sequel to and a reimagining of the original The Evil Dead (1981). The film blends elements of horror, slapstick comedy, and over-the-top gore, creating a unique and highly influential style.

The story follows Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell), who travels to a remote cabin in the woods with his girlfriend, Linda (Denise Bixler). There, they discover the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis (the Book of the Dead) and a tape recording of incantations from the book. When the incantations are played, an evil force is unleashed, possessing Linda and eventually Ash himself. Ash must fight to survive as the demonic forces torment him. Later, the daughter of the cabin's archaeologist owner, Annie (Sarah Berry), arrives with a group of people, and they all become entangled in the battle against the Deadites (the possessed humans). The film culminates in a chaotic and surreal showdown.

Cast List:

- Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams

- Sarah Berry as Annie Knowby

- Dan Hicks as Jake

- Kassie Wesley DePaiva (credited as Kassie DePaiva) as Bobby Joe

- Ted Raimi as Possessed Henrietta (and the voice of the Evil Force)

- Denise Bixler as Linda

- Richard Domeier as Ed Getley

- John Peakes as Professor Raymond Knowby (voice)

- Lou Hancock as Henrietta Knowby

Evil Dead II is celebrated for its inventive camera work, dark humor, and Bruce Campbell's iconic performance as Ash, who became a horror legend. The film has since spawned a franchise, including Army of Darkness, a TV series (*Ash vs. Evil Dead*), and numerous comic books and video games.

Some years have twin films, but 1989 had triplets, (technically 89 had five aquatic thrillers) and this week we take a look at the movie i came in ready to defend as an underrated gem only to be a bit surprised as we watched George P. Cosmatos' Leviathan without rose colored glasses. Without nostalgia helping were we able to appreciate it or did we leave it under the sea

Poltergeist (2015) or Gritty REboot vs Drones, Gregs, Crushed Automobiles and The Darkness27 Jun 202401:02:23

This week we look at the well made but pointless Poltergeist remake from 2015. It’s not an awful film like The Fog was but it doesn’t help that every frame of this gets compared to the Tobe Hooper classic. This is special show for us because, due to a falling tree, we lost power in our home and recorded our show in the Texas summer heat and in the dark.

They should not have bothered with remaking The Fog in 2005. This is a lackluster and completely forgettable remake. I feel bad for kids who grew up with this constantly airing on the sci fi channel.

This week we dive into part two of our three part series on Childs play. This week we look at MGM's reboot from 2019. Gritty REboot Versus A Sleepy Bruce Willis and A Gutless Remake (Death Wish 2018)14 May 202400:57:37

We may not have said the nicest things about Charles Bronson's original but man it’s a masterpiece compared to this. Listen to us as we complain about Bruce Willis sleeping his way through this film. Before he retired Bruce turned in some of the worst performances of his career. Eli Roth can’t even his his genre sensibilities to elevate this vigilante justice turkey.

Gritty REboot Versus Vigilante Justice & Architecture (Death Wish 1974)10 May 202400:58:08

Death Wish with Charles Bronson is an absolute classic but it left Meredith and I a little cold sadly. Join us as we debate the merits of Charles Bronson as an actor, vigilantism, 70s cinema, and the debut of Jeff Goldblum. Get your guns out fellers and let's head to Arizona… err I mean New York!

Popstar: Never Stop Recommending this movie28 Feb 202500:52:33

As the Spiritual Successor e to last week's This is Spinal Tap, we have Andy Sandberg's Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, which is a mockumentary comedy film directed by Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, and written by The Lonely Island trio: Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone. The film follows the rise and fall of Connor4Real (played by Andy Samberg), a former boy band member turned solo pop star, as he navigates the highs and lows of fame. After his sophomore album flops, Connor's career spirals out of control, forcing him to confront his ego, his relationships, and his fading relevance. Along the way, he reconnects with his former bandmates, Owen (Jorma Taccone) and Lawrence (Akiva Schaffer), while dealing with the absurdities of the music industry. The film features cameos from real-life celebrities, including Justin Timberlake, Mariah Carey, and Ringo Starr, adding to its satirical take on pop culture.

The film received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised its sharp satire of the music industry, clever humor, and Andy Samberg's charismatic performance. Critics highlighted the film's hilarious original songs (such as "Equal Rights" and "Finest Girl") as standout moments, blending absurdity with catchy tunes. However, some felt the mockumentary format was overly familiar and that the humor occasionally relied too heavily on its celebrity cameos. Overall, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping was celebrated as a witty and entertaining parody, particularly for fans of The Lonely Island's brand of comedy.

Main Cast:

- Andy Samberg as Connor4Real (Connor Friel) – A former boy band member turned solo pop star.

- Jorma Taccone as Owen Bouchard – Connor’s childhood friend, former bandmate, and now his DJ.

- Akiva Schaffer as Lawrence Dunn – Connor’s former bandmate who left the music industry to become a farmer.

- Sarah Silverman as Paula Klein – Connor’s publicist.

- Tim Meadows as Harry Munk – Connor’s manager.

- Joan Cusack as Fran Friel – Connor’s mother.

Gritty REboot Versus An Upgraded Board game and the Smulder of The Rock (Jumanji Welcome to The Jungle)07 May 202400:46:43

It's not a shocker for us to say we preferred the 2015 version of Jumanji over the original version, but we have to stress that we really dig this interpretation. Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle is a great blockbuster.

Gritty REboot Versus A Years Long Board Game and Very Serious Robin Williams (Jumanji 95)03 May 202400:59:23

In December of 1995 the world of cinema bestowed Jumani to us. Upon meeting a mixed critical recpetion it still went on to be one the biggest hits of the holiday season and start a franchise with a loose sequel and a reboot. Does this odd non comedic role for Robin Williams hold up or the film as dated as the CG monkeys. Listen to find out.

Gritty REboot Vs Another Pointless American Retread (Pulse 06)24 Apr 202400:49:43

We were truly unprepared for this limp, and lifeless (not even in a good way) American Adaptation of the Japanese Classic Kairo. Gritty REboot Versus The Legacy of An American Werewolf in London. 28 Mar 202401:10:09

John Landis' classic is still worth a watch in 2024 but is it still the genre defining classic its billed as.

Gritty REboot versus CGI French Werewolves and the low quality of American Werewolf in Paris 07 Feb 202400:58:03

This is a remake that can't even be considered in the same league, neigh, the same sport as the original. Tom Everet Scott and Julie Delpy cant bring this low rent sequel/reboot in for even a "so bad its good" landing. We watch so you dont have to and if you had cables in the early 00's, then listen along to the dumbest werewolf movie imaginable, and the includes The Howling sequels.

Spinal Tap or yeah, it is still one of the funniest flicks ever made17 Feb 202500:58:05

Gritty REboot Versus The Perserverance of Kurt Russell and the Legacy of Tombstone07 Feb 202401:08:49

Let's just say it, Kurt Russel does a waaaaay better job than Costner in the part of Wyatt Earp. This modern Classic is a movie Meredith and i have seen a hundred times. Dod our run in with Costner's Earp give us a new appreciation of this flick or did it leave us wishing there was a bit more here.

Gritty REboot versus the Vanity of Kevin Costner; The Forgotten Wyatt Earp.08 Jan 202401:04:09

Everyone loves and remembers Tombstone but this competing film is almost completely forgotten. In a fight to tell the story of Wyatt Earp and the OK Coral, Costner and Lawrence Kasden choose to talk about the man Earp was and not the legend. This leads to a loooong boriing mess but is this a just a misunderstood gem or should you just stick to leaving Tombstone on in the background while clean or cook. Also, am I supposed to actaully like the man Wyatt Earp?

Gritty REBoot #66 Silent Night, A remake in name only makes for solid Holiday Scares25 Dec 202300:48:09

The 2012 version of Silent Night Deadly night is a remake in name only. While we certainly both would have appreciated another take on Billy and "Punishment" we instead received a solid if underwhelming horror movie. Curl up by the fire, light it with your flamethrower, toss out your pervy priest, and make sure your coeds are hung on antlers with care. Merry Christmas and Silent Night.

Gritty Reboot #65, Silent Night Deadly Night: The Punishment of controversy to the Naughty cult status22 Dec 202301:07:30

Gritty REboot #64 The Italian Job: Of all the Films Marky Mark has made, this is one of them 22 Dec 202300:53:56

The Italian Job is a more than acceptable remake of a true classic. Do we think there is enough here to stand the test of time like the Caine film or will this merely be forgotten like other retreads,

Gritty REboot #63 The Italian Job: A Classic that's still cool over 50 years later.20 Dec 202300:49:46

Meredith had been ducking this film for years and this week she jumps in her mini and drives right into this classic British Caper. Do we both love it or is it just too dated to matter much anymore??

Gritty REboot #62 Suspira 2018, Literally the exact opposite of the original 14 Dec 202300:49:19

Most would have thought that a remake of such a one of a kind mocie like Dario Arento's Suspira was truly impossible but Filmmaker Luca Guadagnino helms another truly unique, but altogether different kind of film. did we enjoy it or is it blashempy, Listen and Find out.

Gritty REboot #61 Suspira, Truly one of a kind Cinema08 Dec 202300:51:45

MNothing can truly prepare you for suspira. There is no other movie like Suspira and that made it one of the least likely films to ever be remade or rebooted. Alas though, here we are taking a stab to the heart for this late 70's Argento classic.

Gritty REboot #60, IT Chapter 2 or maybe they will stick the landing in another 20 Years.06 Dec 202301:15:04

It Retrospective Chapter 1 The 90's Mini-Series and Tim Curry gives a generation a fear of clowns. 27 Oct 202301:16:38
