The Western Ho bids a fond farewell to one of its Thursday night session stalwarts with an evening of mourning and music. Andy continues to do battle with his young padawan who pushes him towards the dark side. Theology and Theme Parks make surprising conversational bed-fellows as Andy and Ed reminisce and compare notes on the pros and cons of being alter boys in their respective parishes back in the day (yes that day was the 80s). This subject causes the unexpected need for deep questions to be tackled head-on: Communism Vs Capitalism. Individual Enrichment Vs the Common Good. Should those who serve be paid for their service or should the wealth of the few be shared by the many? And just how old is too old before you should really stop getting on those tiny amusement rides meant for small babies? So many questions! What are we to make of it all? Listen to this week’s episode of "Get Folked" to find out more, while not necessarily finding any answers.

BOOM! Another Get Folked episode makes it to the editor's desk before deadline. Tactics on how to make friends are discussed as well as the chronic shortage of Bouncy Castles. Is this an indication of the decline of western civilization or merely a minor inconvenience to too many stressed out parents as they cram themselves into one small urban location?

And, in a rare melancholy moment for the podcast, daylight robbery strikes in Berlin! This one is an emotional roller coaster.

Also, Ed is wearing a peaked hat and sunglasses during this episode and possibly from now on. No big deal.

Andy asks Ed to write the podcast blurb for the first time. Ed panics and, due to a lack of any better ideas, decides to “go meta” and reference the act of writing the blurb within the blurb itself. I think it’s safe to say that Ed will never be asked to write the blurb again.

In this episode the guys talk about the fantastic physical feats of the O’Donovan’s of old down in West Cork and how they led directly to Ed’s clumsy behaviour as a tourist. Andy is doing some child-rearing with the help of electronic music, beat-boxing, and science. The Aurora Borealis making a rare appearance over Limerick and the merits of mercy killings for rodents in Berlin all serve to provide a veritable treasure trove of talking points ranging in scale from the truly cosmic to the down and dirty.

Ed wanders the south west of Ireland in search of a session or two. Andrew wanders the canals and parks on May day as the bright sunshine and warm temperatures brings thousands out onto the streets of Berlin to celebrate a range of music. We're proud to have made it to 20 episodes, thanks for being with us. Here's to another 20!

What's in a name? There seems to be a lot as Andy and Ed revisit the subject of band names, displaying what might worryingly be considered, at least for two song writers, a distinct lack of imagination. But this isn't all that's going on with your two favourite podcasters.

Ed reminisces about a memorable Sunday afternoon from his adolescence when a blunder by the censors at Ireland's national broadcaster allowed 1970s Barbara Bach into the unsuspecting and pleasantly surprised kitchens of Ireland in all her glory. Also dominating Ed's week in a way that nothing else can, the treehouse . . . . always the treehouse.

Andy finds ever more musicians to rub shoulders with in the artistic milieu of Berlin including Irish band The Murder Capital, but he also takes the opportunity (on two occasions) to mix it up with the young people of the city and see if he still has what it takes. Andy returns to the competitive sports arena but isn’t ready for the intimacy involved in being part of a team. Ed cleans up some of last week's rambling with a few added tidbits. 80’s TV culture still guides them in the modern world of communication. Trips back memory lane bring stories of rural whistling techniques and sound engineers lacking visual, but more importantly, audio understanding of sound equipment, and that’s coming from us! It’s episode 18 and Getfolked is all grown up…sort of.

Ed and Andy reflect on the joys of medieval folk music. Ireland's rain plays havoc on the small plane industry. Faherty and the gang have some of life's deeper meanings hidden in the garden, just waiting to be dug up. Bill Bailey, Victorian instruments of pain (or pleasure) and all the flagellants with none of smell are discussed in this week’s episode.

Brassless Balls. “Better the lie that draws a smile, than a truth that draws a tear!” Ed keeps it real in housekeeping, The LouvRe, it’s pyramid (glorious!) and teachers explaining abstinence while touring the wonders of Paris are barely mentioned.  Andrew segues neatly into his marathon running days and waddles around EuroDisney in search of stormtroopers. Along with Beyonce, Eastern Folk and a touch of genocide… these are the topics of this week's edition.

A day late (Clocks went forward!) but Ed and Andrew took to the stage once more. Rebranding the band is given a game show veneer, Napoleon's exploits in both Italy and Germany are discussed with Andrew wandering the famous monument to the Battle of the Nations in Leipzig. Bessie Smyths rise and untimely end are discussed. It may or may not be groundhog day in terms of storytelling but as always, Ed and Andy bite the bullet, grow some brass balls and get poetic.

A comedic education into the world kink expands Ed and Andrew’s horizons. Rebranding the band, Belter boy sambos, Bobby Gentry and a look back over a lovely weekend in Berlin as well as a small look forward come into focus.

Another wonderful Paddys weekend in Berlin comes to an end and Andrew and Ed have learned some valuable lessons on their live podcast adventures. Mainly to do with on/off buttons. An great set by Berlin based trio Hoomyin settles any doubts as to whether this was all worth it by giving everyone at the event a unique performance and finally, Ed, Andrew, Pauline, Kyle and Alex take to the stage to perform a few of their own songs to round off a perfect Paddy’s day.

Nominating themselves as poster boys for rip.ie, Ed and Andy are willing to seize on the website's potential for expansion. Stereotypes and outdated children's rhymes are navigated with caution. Sounds from the 5th edition of the Get Folked live event are shared and a few lovely ditties reveal themselves during an amazing evening of music at Madonna bar.

Etiquette is given some air time in this week's episode of Get Folked. Whether it’s queuing for a haircut or letting it all hang out in the sauna, Ed and Andrew find themselves battling their internal demons and come out both sweaty and sexy. Get Folked wanders into Georgian territory when Andrew visits a folksong Workshop in Berlin while Ed discovers a sweet singing session at the White House in Limerick city. Proud to have made it to episode 10 and here’s a health to many more!

Andrew and Ed burn the midnight oil to bring you episode 8 of Get Folked. Andrew shares stories of his cultural, as well as professional exploits in Berlin this week. He finds himself coming face to face with teenage angst as well as South American hat shops. They reflect on Blind Boy’s discussions with Dee Mulrooney and her alter ego - Growler... the shamanic vulva (Not Vagina!). Ed grows nostalgic for high school education, STD’s and the subsequent joys of celibacy as well as pondering the ethical dilemma of whether he would prefer to be considered a tyrant or a wimp.

Car trouble can't stop Ed from exploring the delights on offer in The Bodhrán pub in Mitchelstown where he finds the folk generous in their offers of drink, urinal chats, and even flamenco dancing (sort of), while offers of cheese are conspicuously absent. He even gets to see his potential future self in that night's musical act but was so mesmerised that he forgot to get music clips or the band's name (insert eye-roll here).

Thankfully, Andy brings music clips of "George and His New Heartaches" from his visit to a Swing Dance event in Berlin's Templehofer Feld to keep the Podcast's tether to music intact. Get Folked wanders into the realm of Arabic folk music. Andy's whirlwind tour of Europe continues as he broadcasts this week from Poland. Get Folked finds its spiritual home in a half-built bungalow as Andy and Ed record this week’s episode, along with their first ever very special guests, in and among the high art, fine stud-work, and academic records of Andy’s family.

The guests shirk off their alter-egos and flex their intellectual muscles on topics such as the "Sacred Heart" and how it can be used to win the love of a lady, the bogs of Ireland and what the f*%k we are doing there, the dangers of teaching children how to read, and the mating rituals of crows.

Andrew's time in Ireland continues and his recent days of treasure hunting at home net him memories of heart-felt mis-spellings from past pupils, a confrontation with what a bold boy 14-year-old Andrew was, and some good advice from mischievous puppets on what not to stick into a cup of tea.

And Ed offers up the definitive telling of the infamous "Great Trumpet Larceny of 2003" and, in true tragic style, uses it as a moral tale on why some mothers cannot be trusted.

Ed's Berlin return continues with a week-long food-eating fiesta. It's far from avocados he was raised, but embracing the culinary as well as the musical delights Berlin has to offer is what he does.
