Paid Search vs. Paid Social Strategies - Roman Krs28 Aug 202400:58:00

In the latest episode of the Funky Marketing Podcast, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Roman from Grouts Online, a true expert in B2B SaaS marketing. We dove deep into the nitty-gritty of paid search and social strategies, and let me tell you, there are some game-changing insights you won't want to miss.

💡 Key Takeaways:

Paid Search vs. Paid Social: Understand the strengths and limitations of each. Paid search can give you quick wins, especially in less competitive spaces, while paid social is more of a slow burn, gradually building awareness and trust over time.

Setting Up for Success: Start with a solid foundation—know your audience, refine your targeting, and never underestimate the power of a well-crafted landing page.

Creative Content: In today’s crowded digital landscape, your ads need to stand out. We talked about the power of memes, thought leadership ads, and why your creatives should feel organic and engaging.

LinkedIn Ads on a Budget: Whether you're working with under 5k or have more to spend, the approach needs to be strategic. Retargeting, audience insights, and experimenting with content are key to maximizing ROI.

Self-Reported Attribution: Don’t just rely on the numbers—get the qualitative data too. It’s crucial for understanding how your marketing efforts are truly impacting your audience.

Unlocking B2B Growth: Exclusive LinkedIn & ABM Strategies - Tomasz Maciejewski26 Mar 202400:54:47

In today's world, where the digital landscape is constantly evolving, having a focused strategy on LinkedIn and account-based marketing (ABM) is not just an option but a necessity for B2B companies. I recently had a deep dive into these subjects with Tomasz Maciejewski, an expert in the field, and the insights gleaned from our conversation were nothing short of transformative.

Here are some key takeaways from our chat:

- Simplified ABM Frameworks: The essence of ABM lies in its simplicity and directness. By focusing on a select list of accounts and tailoring your marketing efforts to these, you can drive more meaningful engagements and, ultimately, sales.

- B2B Growth and List Experiments: Experimentation is at the heart of growth. Whether it's trying out new LinkedIn strategies or tweaking your ABM approach, the key is to iterate and find what resonates with your target accounts.

- The Power of Networking Events: Both online and offline networking events offer invaluable opportunities to connect with potential clients and partners. The personal touch these events provide can significantly amplify your ABM efforts.

- Content Creation and Distribution: Leveraging content to establish thought leadership and engage with your targeted accounts on LinkedIn can significantly influence their perception and decision-making process.

The dialogue also underscored the importance of creating and nurturing relationships, whether through LinkedIn, content marketing, or face-to-face at events. The digital nomad lifestyle Tomasz and I both embrace has shown us the power of global connections and the magic of being able to run a successful business from anywhere in the world.

Nemanja Zivkovic: Leveraging LinkedIn for Demand Generation23 Nov 202100:59:00

Nemanja here! What's up, guys? Today I want to share with you an episode of another podcast where I was a guest. It was a podcast hosted by my friend Yaagneshwaran Ganesh or shorter Yarg. The podcast is called The ABM conversation podcast, one of the best out there when it comes to b2b marketing. And I'm really glad that I had a chance to be on it and share. And to be honest, I forgot to share it with you. But a few days ago, Yaag reminded me that the episode is one of the top 10 most listened to episodes of the podcast, people keep coming back to the episode and listening to it so I said, well, I need to share this with you, with my audience. So what did we talk about? We've discussed how to best leverage LinkedIn for demand generation and growth. Specifically, we talked about the way we at Funky Marketing used LinkedIn, the way I used it to go from solopreneur to the fast-growing, Funky Marketing team that we have today. We talked about our approach to content creation and distribution on LinkedIn, we talked about the trade-off between ads and organic marketing, and what could be an ideal balance. We talked about, you know, the way you can leverage LinkedIn pages the right way, but also, we tackled topics like a misconception to believe that customers who have the least amount of complaints are the best and a lot more. So there you go.

Nemanja Zivkovic: Relationship-centric Era is coming29 Sep 202100:23:21

Sometimes you think your purpose is one thing, but life is ever-changing. There are levels to this shit.

But you’ve got to redesign and clarify your purpose. That's life.

Money or whatever it is can not stop you from catching one.

Crush it to get a clear perspective, just like I'm doing in a GIF below.

👆 This was said by Sean Combs, also known by the stage names Puff Daddy, P. Diddy, Puffy, or Diddy, an American rapper, record executive, record producer, and entrepreneur.

Now let me add my point of view. 👇

My goal was never to build the biggest company.

Damn, I was even ok being the second guy in a company.

I have a goal of being the best version of myself, whatever that might be, and wherever that might take me.

I wanna get myself in a situation to help as many people and companies as possible with what I know, and sometimes I need more people by my side to do it.

That's why I work with other people. Not to be able to say I'm a boss, or whatever people are saying these days.

For example, I gave myself a CVO (Chief Vision Officer) position for a while not because Funky Marketing is that big. We're not that big. And I'm not that special.

For the Funky Marketing, Founder is just fine. Or CEO, because people respect more CEOs than Founders, for some reason.

I named myself CVO because I needed to do something new to get myself in the right conversations because one of the things we're doing is changing the way companies do things. Nothing else. And it served its purpose very well.

But let me get back to my main topic..

We're living in an ever-changing world. We all need to change and not only follow the existing changes but be the ones that are starting those changes.

It's not enough just to have a good or a great product. Or service.

We now live in Relationship Centric era.

Today customers want to know you as a person, not just a company. They want to engage with you as people and relate to you on an emotional level.

In this Relationship-Centric Era, your success is no longer driven by what your product does, but by who you are as a brand.

The companies that do things right are the ones that create stories about who they are, why they matter, and show how their product makes people’s lives better. They have a narrative, not just a brand promise.

The Relationship-Centric Era is all about telling your story with authenticity and presenting your company as something you are passionate about.

It’s all about creating a personal connection with your customers and forming heartfelt relationships.

It is time to make a shift from transactional marketing to relationship marketing – from pushing out the same messages over and over again to building meaningful, authentic relationships with your audience.

While you have time, whoop your own ass before somebody else (competitors, industry, market, world) does that for you.

Rory Sutherland: Biases in B2B decision-making15 Sep 202100:53:44

There are far far more biases in collective and institutionalized decision-making than in consumer decision-making.

Companies pretend that the process is hugely rational when in reality it really isn’t.

That's why we've invited a guest. And what a guest that was!

Rory Sutherland dropped by and we recorded a great episode for the Funky Marketing Show on the topic of Behavior sciences in B2B

In case you've been living under the rock and you have no idea who he is, Rory Sutherland is a Vice-Chairman Ogilvy UK.

He co-founded a behavioral science practice within the agency.

Before founding Ogilvy Change, Rory was a copywriter and creative director at Ogilvy for over 20 years, having joined as a graduate trainee in 1988.

He has variously been President of the IPA, Chair of the Judges for the Direct Jury at Cannes, and has spoken at TED Global.

He’s a writer, speaker, and inspiration.

We said lots of things, such as

1. B2B decision-making is definitely not exempt from the psychological analysis

2. The key to B2B is understanding business people’s problems

3. B2B buyers make their decisions to avoid blame and that's why we have defensive decision making.

4. Unlimited seating capacity greatly impacts online events

5. Spreadsheets and data can’t read human emotions

6. The reward for thinking weird is greater than the risk

And we dived deeper into more with amazing examples from everyday life.

Now tell me, what are some of the most known biases in B2B that you're seeing?

p.s. find Rory on Twitter @rorysutherland and feel free to reach out to him to continue the conversation

Paul Cash: Emotional And Humanized Storytelling Is The Future of B2B08 Sep 202100:33:22

In this episode of the Funky Marketing Show Nemanja hosted Paul Cash, B2B strategist, storyteller, author, and Founder of Rooster Punk, who's on a personal mission to Humanize B2B Marketing.

He even wrote a book called Humanizing B2B: The new truth in marketing that will transform your brand and your sales.

His life story is very interesting and eventful. He has made millions and lost millions, written 2 books, turned down a cheque for £19m for his first company (madness), developed the 13 stories framework, won over 30+ awards, co-founded the fastest growing marketing agency in the UK, fallen in love, been seconds from bankruptcy, fathered two awesome boys, been divorced twice and even after a thousand rounds of golf he has never come close to a hole in one.

He's passionate about helping B2B brands to fulfill their potential and HATE it when lazy marketing gets in the way. He's driven by human understanding, creativity, narrative development, branding, storytelling, innovation, ABM, sales enablement, category design, disruption, and transformational growth.

He has worked with companies such as HP, Microsoft, Cisco, Vodafone, Samsung, Oracle, Virgin Media, Colt, Amadeus, Symantec, Adobe, Canon, KPMG, TCS, Funding Circle, Make it Cheaper, Currencycloud, Crowdcube, Incopro, Sage Pay (Opayo) and many others.

Paul and Nemanja talked about things like

- Changes in B2B buying behaviors and the ways we can adopt them

- How to make an impact on the older generation of marketers

- Which factors contribute to the change of the marketing landscape

- Why emotional and humanized storytelling is the future of B2B marketing

- Doing stuff you shouldn't do will make your brand stand out

And more.

Andrei Zinkevich: Without marketing and sales alignment you're wasting your marketing budget18 Aug 202101:02:11

Nemanja had a chance to sit down with Andrei Zinkevich, co-founder of Fullfunnel.io. His team and he help B2B Tech companies generate demand and land enterprise sales-qualified opportunities with full-funnel account-based marketing operations.

They talked about account-based marketing, B2B marketing strategy, sales enablement, nurturing strategic accounts, etc. Nemanja asked Andrei lots of questions he wanted to know the answer to, so they talked about things like:

- What does it mean for the marketing team if the sales team is aware of the company and what they're doing? Does it change the role of marketing?

- If you don’t have marketing and sales alignment and don’t audit how your sales team works, will you actually waste your marketing budget? What if you rank for your keywords on Google, if you have the best sales copy and highly-performed ads? Is that changing something?

- What can you do, as an SMB, instead of copying giants?

- One of the most common mistakes that are killing SaaS MRR is focusing their marketing on the segment that doesn't generate core revenue.

- Who should create demand in the company? What’s the sales role?

- Do webinars still work? How to get results out of them?

We talked about these topics and more.

MJ Peters: How To Boost Your B2B Marketing Strategy10 Feb 202100:47:27

Funky Marketing is a podcast in which we're talking with entrepreneurs, marketers, advertisers, designers, artists, and all those people that are doing a good job for good people.

It is organized by Funky Marketing.

Your host is Nemanja Zivkovic, CEO, and Founder of Funky Marketing.

This episode is a part of the Funky Marketing Top Vices awards, and MJ Peters is one of those voices.

MJ is a VP Marketing at Firetrace, challenging industrial companies to think differently about marketing. She's interested in shaking up the way we do things on an industrial scale.

She told the board of one company to develop a fire detector for dog owners. One year later, she pitched an audience of 60 senior execs on an IoT sensor for live fish transport. The first thing got her laughed out of the room. The second one won her team 1st place and $150k in funding.

She learned from both experiences, so she wouldn't change a thing.

It turns out that the fish project was ROI positive in under 5 months. That success was enough to propel her into her first leadership role, heading up marketing for Firetrace.

As the company's first ever VP of Marketing, she changed how the organization defines marketing - from the brochure department to a strategic driver for the business. Today, they use market insights to set demand generation, sales, and product strategy.

Her approach to leadership is simple - she tries to do all the things that she used to wish managers would do for her. She combines that with a player/coach mentality and an insatiable drive to produce results. She can honestly tell you that what she is most proud of in her career so far is her positive impact on some of the talented people that have worked for her.

She's also a co-host of The Industrial Marketing Show with Matthew Sciannella.

We talked about a variety of topics, such as:

Lorena Morales: Targeting Wrong People With Wrong Products and Messaging20 Jan 202101:03:00

In this episode, our guest was Lorena Morales.

It all started as a fascination with TIME—an abstract construct that the whole tangible world depends on. It’s the foundation of everything we have done and will do, and above all, I believe in making the most of every minute.

Having lived and worked in several cities around the world, she has gotten the chance to appreciate foreign cultures, embrace diverse mindsets, and apply both to her work. For her, having a global mindset has meant having a greater arsenal of ideologies with which to approach complex problems. Likewise, she is able to better understand people despite their differences, which she believes is strength in business and in life. Education has always played a significant role in everything she does. Her last degree in Strategic Design Management is an indirect product of the multicultural foundation she has built her life upon, both personally and professionally.

As a marketer, what inspires her is watching her ideas take shape—especially the less conventional ones. To her, creating or reimagining a company’s brand means turning potential into something concrete. Currently, she is the head of marketing at Go Nimbly, the first revenue operations consultancy with the goal of driving high-growth companies to increase revenue by 26% through eliminating operational silos.

Being new to this industry has again brought her back to her core professional belief, which is that every single business relies first and foremost on its people—the human capital that allows for collaboration, trust, and success. In an ever-changing, technological world, these are the things that can't be automated, and will never stop being valuable and inspiring.

She's Currently:

- Showing up to every ABM event, conference, and webinar she can find

- Plotting her next concert/music festival adventure

We tackled a lot of topics:

Bullying and the Importance of Family Being Supportive

How to Learn to Accept a Great Change

Challenges of Being Immigrant in the US

If You Don’t Try, You Lose the Chance to Win

Targeting Wrong People With Wrong Products and Messaging

Francisco Mahfuz: How to Use Storytelling in Communication13 Jan 202101:07:20

Funky Marketing is a podcast in which we're talking with entrepreneurs, marketers, advertisers, designers, artists, and all those people that are doing a good job for good people.

It is organized by Funky Marketing.

Your host is Nemanja Zivkovic, CEO, and Founder of Funky Marketing.

This episode is a part of the Funky Marketing Top Vices awards, and Francisco Mahfuz is one of those voices.

When he was 10, his English teacher asked him to present in front of the class, and he said yes.

When he was 20, he got offered a job that involved speaking in front of sullen teenagers, and he said yes.

Throughout the years that followed, he said yes to every chance to tell his stories in front of an audience, and even became a National Champion of public speaking. But when friends suggested he should do it professionally, he always said “maybe one day.”

In early 2019, when a series of unexpected events turned his life upside down, a good friend asked him that same question again and, this time, he finally said yes.

When he's not speaking, coaching, or training, he's an independent financial advisor, helping people make better decisions about the money.

He's also a published author, International Wealth Manager through the Chartered Institute of Securities & Investments, and fully qualified as a UK adviser.

Who ever said men can't multi-task?

Gaetano DiNardi: How to cut through the noise and compete against the industry giants16 Dec 202000:47:54

This episode is a part of the Funky Marketing Top Vices awards, and Gaetano DiNardi is one of those voices.

Gaetano began his professional career as a lost college graduate who didn't want to do anything in life other than become a platinum superstar music producer. It was his dream to produce gold records for the biggest artists in the world.  He spent 5 years as a full-time music producer & songwriter in New York and worked with artists like Fat Joe, Shaggy, and Ryan Leslie.

He loved it (and hated it) at the same time.

The grind was brutal but gifted him with a unique competitive advantage in the business world.  He realized that musicians & B2B companies have the exact same problems.

- Cutting through the noise.
- Building a trusted brand.
- Developing an engaged audience.
- Competing against the industry giants.
- Converting leads into paying customers.
- Transforming new customers into loyalists.  He faced these challenges as a music producer trying to grow my brand.  And without knowing it, he became a self-taught digital marketer.  Literally, he fell ass backwards into SEO by blogging about his perils in the music industry.

Eventually, his blog earned hundreds of thousands of views. His articles were earning free organic traffic because they ranked highly in Google.  He built transferable skills and landed his first "real job" at an SEO company.

The rest was history.

In his first month of doing professional-level SEO, he was working with clients like Major League Baseball, Trojan Condoms and First Response Pregnancy Testing Kits.  Just imagine, going from music production to doing marketing for condoms and the female anatomy!

His background as a musician combined with my technical marketing acumen creates a unique hybrid of creative & analytical skills - this is the secret sauce that sets him apart from the rest.  He has earned results for VC backed startups, popular eCommerce brands, and Fortune 500 behemoths.

Today, he's responsible for Demand Generation Marketing at Nextiva, a leader in Cloud Communications.  His core specialty is Full-Funnel Demand Gen, with a focus on new customer acquisition via channels like SEO/SEM, Conversion Rate Optimization, Marketing Automation.
