Saison 2025 · Épisode 6

Jennifer is a single mom of two children who all fled for their lives on January 7th. Along with her parents, sister and their families, who all lived together in Altadena, they lost home. Jennifer talks with Rabbi Joshua about her life pre-fire and what has happened since that harrowing night.
Jennifer and her kids, after 7 months of moving around from motels to airbnbs, are now settled in a new apartment in Pasadena, the first people in Friends In Deed's new time limited subsidy program (TLS), which offers families up to 12 months rent to help them get back on their feet, along with case management and ongoing support.
We are grateful to Jennifer for sharing her story with us.

2024-10 Preparing for City Council Discussion on Encampments
Saison 2024 · Épisode 10
vendredi 6 septembre 2024 • Durée 18:15
In this short episode, Rabbi Joshua shares Friends In Deed's 'keynotes and solutions' study sheet that was submitted to city council in advance of the meeting on 9/9/24. Unfortunately, after requesting to be included in the official presentation to the council, and hearing an initial positive reception to the idea, in the end none of the local service providers were invited to participate. As such, the ideas in this podcast are the ones outlined on the sheet sent to the council. Immediate solutions include partnering with local motels to 'master lease' rooms for emergency shelter; there are several motels in Pasadena ready and willing to engage in this kind of agreement TODAY!

This first discussion is with one of Friends In Deed's MSW interns, Joel Moss, who has been doing research on this case and following it closely.
