Today I am joined by 3 of the most impactful women in the space of female athletes and RED-S:
Renee McGregor, Melissa Lodge, and Pippa Woolven ( links to all below- scroll down!)
Their bios are below:
Renee McGregor:
Renee is a leading Sports Dietitian with over 20 years of experience working in clinical and performance nutrition. She has managed sport science teams leading into the Rio 2016 .She is the Nutrition Lead for both the English and Scottish National Ballet where she was actively involved in producing the consensus statement about the management of REDs in Dance. She is also on the international Task Force for Orthorexia and is a names author on the consensus document on definition and diagnostic criteria for Orthorexia Nervosa. She is one of the leading voices in the country in Athlete Health, The Female Athlete, REDs and hormonal health. Renee is the founder of Team Renee McGregor, specialising in supporting individuals of all ages in their sporting endeavours and providing expert advice to athletes seeking support for a dysfunctional relationship with food and training. Renee is also a best-selling author, with her most recent book, More Fuel You which is already on its 3rd print run since publication in June 2022.She writes a monthly column for Runners World and is often asked to comment and provide technical support on documentaries, News and Media. She was the clinical advisor for the BBC documentary, Freddie Flintoff: Living with Bulimia. She is a trustee for Black Trail runners, and a top tier athlete in her own right for Montane.
Melissa Lodge:
Melissa, MS is an Interdisciplinary Health Sciences, she PhD candidate, graduate research and teaching assistant, dietetics student, and elite runner. Her research focuses on female athlete physiology, particularly under conditions of low energy availability (LEA), such as Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDs), and its associated impact on health and performance across the lifespan. She has presented her work at several regional, national, and international conferences featuring work in female athletes on LEA outcomes. Melissa is interested in exploring intervention-based models, such as education, to improve outcomes for female athletes and girls in sports in the future. She also runs the social media account @FED_collaborative, a translational research on female athlete physiology, LEA, REDs, and eating disorders/disordered eating
Pippa Woolven:
Pippa Woolven is a retired elite athlete turned advocate for safe, sustainable practices in sport. As the founder and director of Project RED-S, she works to increase awareness, prevention, and support for Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport, providing essential resources to promote health-centered approaches in sport. Alongside her advocacy, Pippa is a qualified behaviour change coach and athlete mentor, helping athletes and recreational sports enthusiasts build balanced, fulfilling relationships with sport and physical activity.

Amy-Eloise Neale has competed at all the major international competitions from World Championships, Dimond Leagues, Commonwealth Games, and the Olympics. She is a Tokyo Olympian in the 5000m, European Indoor Champion 3000m (2022), 4th at the Commonwealth Championships 5000m (2022), and British Champion Indoor 3000m / Outdoor 5000m (2022) Her time in the sport started very young but she has sustained her success over the years. In this episode she talks through her journey through the sport, including a deep dive into her time in the NCCA and how she overcame an eating disorder. Amy reflects upon the transition into becoming a pro runner, and how she found the balance that was right for her. She also shares her new plans for the future.

Peta Bee is an England Athletics qualified coach, South of England women's team athletics manager, sits on the English Cross Country Association committee as well as a past international athlete herself. Outside of coaching and running she is an award-winning health and fitness journalist, having written for The Times for over 25 years, she was the performance editor for Athletics Weekly for 12 years, and has contributed to every national newspaper in the UK. She is the author of 10 books including the New York Times, and Times bestseller Fast Exercise and the Official 2012 Olympic Fitness book. Peta has appeared on TV and radio and was once the resident health expert on GMTV’s Lorraine show.
In this week's episode Peta shares, some of her concerns around the approach to racing and training for young athletes she has seen, and how certain aspects of these concerns have worsened in recent years. An insightful discussion around the sport as a whole and nature of training and how it can be fine tuned to build future champions. ----------------------------------------------

Megan Davies is the UK#9 over the 5k, and top class 1500m runner, competing recently in the British Olympic Trials and Championships over the distance.
She has been training for most of her life, although it all began with an unexpected passion for swimming. She has had her fair share of struggles with injuries and a sub ideal coaching set up in states whilst competing in the NCAA.

Verity is the 2023 reining British 5k road champion, and placed 8th in the world 5k road championships 2023. Having previously achieved an Olympic qualifying standard for Tokyo, but missing out on selection, Verity shares her journey from going all in and battling with mental health to finding her way towards a strong build back with aspirations of selection in Paris.
Verity shows extreme determination and commitment towards the pursuit of her goals, and true strength of character as she battles with challenges to chase her dreams.
This is a very real and honest episode, which sheds light on the role mental health plays for athletes. It will have you come away feeling inspired.
