#46 - Dr Kwon - Biomechanics for Club Head Speed

In this episode I am talking with world renowned golf Biomechanics expert, Dr Kwon. 

Dr Kwon has published dozens of peer reviewed golf biomechanics research papers. He also has an extremely impressive biomechanics system called Kwon 3D. In his lab he assesses golfers swings using dual force plates, 3D motion tracking, and high speed camera. With this data Dr Kwon can provide coaching direction towards the players. 

Dr Kwon has worked with hundreds of golfers of all ability levels. 

In this episode we dig into the biomechanics of club head speed, and how you can train it.

He is a former world class hammer thrower, is now a very highly respected hammer throwing coach, and works with a variety of sports in strength and conditioning.

There are many parallels between developing the ability to throw far and swing fast and the goal of this episode was to learn as much from Martin as we could!

He tells us about the types of things he looks into, what parts of the game are commonly over and under valued, and some things amateurs can think about in regards to their game.

It’s really interesting to get an insight into some of the finer details that Richie studies, and learn from his findings.

Mike did his masters degree research on power development in golfers and his Phd research on the biomechanics and physiology of elite track and field throwers, which has strong relevance for golf. 

Mike used to be a very keen golfer, being part of the NZ golf panel as a junior and having a +3 handicap. 

He also has experience in speed training for golf, having increased his own club head speed from 110 to 142mph, which we dig into!

Marty is the VP of fitting and performance for PING. He is also an exceptionally good golfer, having qualified for a number of major championships and PGA Tour events. 

Marty is genuinely one of my favorite people to talk to, and one of the smartest I know. He has a hugely vast knowledge of a wide range of golf performance variables and has tried his best to implement them into his own game and help others with theirs.
