Donald Trump achieved a major political and policy victory on Thursday when the U.S. House of Representatives passed what he calls his “Big Beautiful Bill.” The less-creative name is the budget reconciliation bill, which presidents for years have used to implement large parts of their agenda. (That’s how we got “Obamacare.”)

The bill includes many of Trump’s economic policy promises, such as tax cuts, but also rolls back much of the “green” energy and climate policies the Biden administration imposed via the Inflation Reduction Act.

A new study from the University of Alabama in Huntsville addresses the question of how much the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect is responsible for the higher temperatures at weather stations across the world. Dr. Roy Spencer and Dr. John Christy have spent several years developing a novel method that quantifies, for the first time, the average UHI warming effects related to population density. Their finding: no less than 65% of “runaway global warming” is not caused by our emissions of carbon dioxide, but by the urbanization of the world.

President Joe Biden, after having a disastrous week of optics sitting on the beach while Maui burned, decided to fly there Monday. With the perfect setting for “disaster porn” from the burned city of Lahaina, he may finally declare an “official” global climate emergency next week.

Also, a bunch of kids in Montana (well, actually their handlers) filed a climate lawsuit against the state citing the Montana constitution provision for a clean environment. President Joe Biden and the UN are likely to declare an “official” global climate emergency next week. All the signs are there. The chatter, and the behind the scenes maneuvering. The UN’s website now has a climate emergency page. Biden the other day stopped short, but when the new temperature numbers are issued on August 15by NOAA, that may be all the justification Biden needs. The “melting in Antarctica and the supposed subsequent sea level rise” will be another, and Lahaina in Maui burning to the ground will be cited as yet another.

In its new critical review, the Climate Intelligence Foundation (CLINTEL) found many problems with the IPCC's AR6 report on climate change.  The IPCC made numerous false assumptions and flawed assessments, all the while ignoring key facts. The IPCC erred in its comparisons of present data with proxy data for past climate conditions, made flawed assumptions about climate sensitivity and emissions, and unjustifiably assumed nature plays almost no role in climate change. In addition, the IPCC ignored or downplayed the tremendous benefits to human life of present climate change.

This week we learned from Heartland's Justin Haskins that the U.N. is planning to seize global ‘emergency’ powers with Biden’s support.

In the article, Haskins makes it clear that a so-called "climate emergency" or "climate crisis" will be one of the possible triggers for this, and with the upcoming El Niño likely to spike global temperatures, irrational panic will likely enable a power grab by the UN.

Just this week, when there was supposedly the "hottest day ever" on the planet (it wasn't, even NOAA couldn't confirm it), U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the latest numbers help prove “that climate change is out of control.”

The Supreme Court ruling in the United States' case of Sackett v. Elon Musk's DOGE crew continues to shine a light on how our federal government operates, and it is exposing more climate grift than even the most cynical among us could have imagined. The latest involves the EPA giving failed Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams $2 billion to expand "clean energy by prioritizing housing, equity, and resilience." Her organization, Power Forward Communities, says it will install heat pumps, solar panels, EV chargers, and other "green" technology. Does Abrams have any expertise in this field? No. In fact, her organization incorporated itself with $100 in the bank just months before receiving $2 billion of our tax money. The Washington Free Beacon also reported this week that the man Biden put in charge of the EPA's "Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund" funneled $5 billion to his former employer, something called the Coalition for Green Capital.

The climate grifters are being exposed, and the EPA is trying to claw these billions of dollars back. But how deep does the corruption go? Earlier this week, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released its AR6 climate change report. Expectedly, the report is defined by serial doomcasting and claims of impending catastrophe despite the growing mountain of failed predictions that are conveniently ignored.

One of the most controversial claims made in the report is that anthropogenic emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) is the main driver of temperature change. Real-world data has proven this false, yet it’s the main takeaway in each IPCC report.

First released on Monday was the “Summary for Policymakers,” a section intended to guide policymaking decisions across the globe. The AR6 report continues to omit key information in favor of sensationalized claims that are easily refuted. For example, the 36-page summary doesn’t include a single mention of the logarithmic relationship between atmospheric CO2 concentrations and global temperature. Surely, policymakers should know that each unit of CO2 added to the atmosphere has a decreasing effect on temperature. The IPCC’s omission of this relationship implies that the warming effect of CO2 concentrations is linear, leading policymakers to overestimate the impact of CO2 emissions on global temperature and overcommit to emissions reduction strategies that are expensive and ineffective.

Heartland Institute President James Taylor on Tuesday, March 14 was a guest on Tony Katz Today on WIBC radio in Indianapolis to talk about President Biden’s announcement this week about drilling in Alaska. (See our press release on that.)

While the environmental left is angry at Biden for opening up any drilling in Alaska (the Willow Project), Taylor explains that the president actually closed off a lot more resources than he opened. “This is economic self-mutilation,” Taylor said. “The media is in the bag for the environmental crazies.”

“We have more oil than Saudi Arabia. We have more oil than Russia,” Taylor said, adding that the drive for “green energy” will make the United States and the world dependent on rare earth minerals largely controlled by China. The good news for climate realists and better governance in the Trump administration is piling up so fast it is difficult to keep up. As we covered on this show on December 6, a bit of undercover journalism by Project Veritas exposed a left-wing staffer at the Environmental Protection Agency admitting that he and others were trying to get billions of our tax money “out as fast as possible” before the Trump administration arrived in January and put a stop to it. “It truly feels like we’re on the Titanic and we’re throwing gold bars off the edge,” laughed Brent Efron, former “special advisor for implementation” at EPA. Well, new EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin announced this week that he has jumped into his submersible and snatched the gold bars ($20 billion) out of the hands of unaccountable lefty nonprofit “NGOs” and returned them to the treasury. The endless flow of our tax money going to environmental extremists groups who advocate against America’s interest seems to be coming to an end

One of the most common accusations against climate change skeptics is that they are in the pocket of big oil and other corporations. These claims are often made without evidence and are used as a smear tactic to imply that climate skeptics receive dirty money.

In reality, climate skeptics receive a negligible amount of funding compared to the vast amount of money invested in climate research and political causes. The argument is pointed at the wrong side.

Zero-emission energy mandates are undermining grid reliability and substantially increasing energy costs in Minnesota and Wisconsin. These mandates pose similar problems for the grid nationwide. Public utilities are profiting from the legislative push for zero-emission energy mandates. Unfortunately, these mandates increase the amounts of expensive, intermittent wind and solar added to the grid. increasing black outs and brown outs. Legislators should put an end to the premature retirement of existing coal plants to ensure grid reliability. Reliability, not fighting climate change, should be the primary goal of public utility commissions.

In general, natural gas appliances are more efficient and less expensive to purchase and operate than electric appliances. Claims that they are a public health threat based on a single study by an environmental group are refuted by decades of safe use. Proposals floated by the Biden administration and New York's governor to ban various natural gas appliances have sparked a backlash, and rightly so, since this robs consumers of choice for no real benefit.

In his book Clean Energy Crisis, Donn Dears explains why it is impossible for society to reach net zero carbon emissions. Dears explains why it would be a bad idea to attempt to go net zero if this was a realistic possibility. Fossil fuels are energy dense, having relatively little impact on the land and environment. Wind and solar require far more land, leaving a massive environmental "footprint." Not only are the so-called green energy replacements for fossil fuels not green, but they are expensive and unreliable. As wind and solar power is added to the grid, lives are placed at risks from outages while jobs are lost due to unreliable energy supplies.

Climate science is tragically politicized. For one, the tremendous benefits rising carbon dioxide concentrations (CO2) have on the earth is completely ignored. As CO2 levels increase, crop production follows suit in rich and poor nations alike. Alarmists have chosen to ignore this fact. Dave White's new environmental science textbook, Climate Crisis Changed: The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Are Deliberate Science Fiction, examines the basic science of what drives climate change. White dives into the evidence used by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change to claim that we face a climate crisis. The evidence doesn’t support the position. Claims of climate catastrophe are based on a faulty understanding of the impact different greenhouses gases have on temperatures and related climate phenomena. White controversially writes that the present warming is impacted by shifts in the earth's tilt.

Polls show that Americans care most about crime and the economy. And while the election results are suspiciously confusing, it’s clear that climate change is going nowhere in Congress. Biden will have to continue advancing his agenda through executive action. At COP27 more promises of climate payments are expected, but as in the past, they are likely to amount to promises unfulfilled.

Previous agreements to send climate payments to developing countries often never come to fruition. Why would any agreement signed this year differ? In the meantime, coal use increases, and CO2 emissions keep rising, but weather events stubbornly refuse to get more extreme.
