Refugee, Gangbanger, Missionary: How to See With Eyes of Faith, with Tobias – EM162
Saison 1 · Épisode 162
mercredi 26 octobre 2016 • Durée 54:24
Tobias came to the United States as a refugee. As a teenager, he was an angry gangbanger until God transformed his life. Now he's a missionary to Southeast Asia, watching God do amazing things.
A former gangbanger turned missionary (we’ll call him Tobias) joins us today to talk about his ministry experiences in Southeast Asia as well as his personal testimony. Having grown up as a refugee in the States, he knows what it is like to be seen as the outsider. Thankfully, God placed a Christian couple in his life who shared the Good News of what Christ had done. From God’s work in his life, he left the life of drugs and violence to follow Jesus.
Tobias now works in a southeastern area of Asia, bringing the story of Jesus to different people groups. In the episode, he discusses the importance of understanding the cultural context and also encourages us to find cross-cultural experience in our very own neighborhoods. Saison 1 · Épisode 161
mercredi 19 octobre 2016 • Durée 40:56
Many approach missions and aid work from the foundation of charity. Gena Thomas shares how the foundation of justice is better. Listen for practical tips and powerful concepts to make your next missions trip better.
Learning to seek justice for a community can be extremely messy, but also beautiful and balanced. Gena Thomas joins us to talk about pursuing right relationships with short-term missions and missions in general. The topics throughout the episode come primarily from her new book, A Smoldering Wick, which focuses on charity versus justice within the missions world.
Her ideas and thoughts bring to light the issues that come from simply giving handouts to the poor. We tend to see ourselves as having more than them, which makes the relationship imbalanced. A just and righteous form of missions, however, brings about “right relationships.” Gena clearly presents how we as believers can seek such justice and why it is so crucial to the Gospel of Christ.
