We hope you'll love listening in while we chat about what our verse means, why it matters, and how it intersects with our daily lives.

Why Am I Suffering? // Vaneetha Risner
mercredi 25 septembre 2024 • Durée 41:25
"When you realize God meets us in the pit, that's a way that we can really glorify God, not for what he does, but for who he is." — Vaneetha Risner
Today's Episode: So often in our suffering we ask this question, "If God loves me, why did this happen?" On today's episode, Vaneetha Risner (who is no stranger to suffering), encourages us to ask a different question. She reminds us that we are loved by God and therefore should ask, "Because God loves me, why did this happen?" Vaneetha helps us see how God meets us in our suffering, how our suffering is not without purpose, and how we can grow in hope through it all.
This month's memory verse: "Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful." — Hebrews 10:23
Today's guest: Vaneetha Rendall Risner writes and speaks about suffering. She is the author of several books including a Bible study, Desperate for Hope, and her memoir, Walking Through Fire. Vaneetha and her husband Joel live in Raleigh, NC where she writes at her website https://www.vaneetha.com about struggle and loss and the breathtaking way Christ meets us in it.

Faithful Because...
mercredi 18 septembre 2024 • Durée 23:52
"I just want to be faithful because he is so faithful." — Vera Schmitz
Today's Episode: How do you hold on to hope? That's what Natalie Abbott and Vera Schmitz are talking about on today's episode. They discuss how easy it can be to lose hope when our hope is placed in our circumstances, our tendency to slowly drift away from God, and his faithfulness to forgive us and restore us when we return to him. They also give us two practical tips for how we can remain faithful over time. It's a great conversation—one you won't want to miss.

Condemnation or Conviction? And How to Tell the Difference
mercredi 17 juillet 2024 • Durée 26:18
"The narrative that Satan tells us is that we're unforgiven, we're unforgivable, we're steeped in this, there's no way out. And when you feel that way, that's condemnation. And my encouragement is when you hear those voices that you would respond with what is true—you would respond with some of the verses that we've memorized like...'As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.'" —Natalie Abbott
Today's episode: Are you making too much of your sin or too little? Or to put it another way, have you confessed your sin to God, but you cannot forgive yourself? Or do you tend to minimize or dismiss your sin as no big deal? How can you tell the difference between self-condemnation and healthy conviction? These are some of questions Vera and Natalie are answering today. You won’t want to miss this conversation!

Cultivating Thankfulness Together // Rachel Gilson
jeudi 10 novembre 2022 • Durée 38:39
“There’s something about the practice of [thankfulness] in community that completes it. And that’s God’s design, that’s not a crutch. It’s not more holy if I’m just praying to Jesus alone in my thankfulness—it is in fact the bigger vision of what God’s redemption is that he creates a people that is marked by thankfulness.” — Rachel Gilson
This month’s memory verse: “Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind.” — Psalm 107:8
Today’s podcast: Have you ever heard someone thank an item instead of the person who gave it to them? What is behind that impulse to be thankful, and where should it really be directed? If you’re looking for both a deep dive into the meaning of Psalm 107 as well as some practical questions and tools to help you live out it’s call to thank the Lord, you’re in the right place! Rachel Gilson and Natalie Abbott dig into the details to not only help us see what Scripture is saying, but to lead us in learning how to live lives of thankfulness to God together as his people.
Our November Dwell guest: Rachel Gilson is a writer, speaker, and campus minister with Cru. She is the author of Born Again This Way. We are so glad to have her with us this month!

The Unfailing Love of the Lord // Natalie Abbott
jeudi 3 novembre 2022 • Durée 25:05
“[Psalm 107] is just such a beautiful picture of the gospel, isn’t it? That Jesus came not to save those who were good and righteous and the best, but he came to seek and save the lost. He came for those of us who were his enemies, who were thumbing our nose at him. And that is who our God is, and his love is unfailing, and his deeds are wonderful. Even to people like me who, in so many ways, am undeserving of the kindness of the Lord.” — Natalie Abbott
This month’s memory verse: “Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind.” — Psalm 107:8
Today’s podcast: When’s the last time you took a minute to stop and think about the things the Lord has done for you? And when’s the last time you stopped to give him thanks? If you are looking for ways to grow in gratitude this month, we are right there with you! We are excited to dive into a new verse together this month that calls us to remember and rehearse what the Lord has done: Psalm 107:8. Join Natalie Abbott, co-founder of Dwell Differently, as she walks us through what the context of this verse is and how we can rightly understand and apply it to our lives today. jeudi 27 octobre 2022 • Durée 08:26

A Warning and an Offer // Vera & Natalie
jeudi 20 octobre 2022 • Durée 22:09

The Good News about Failure // Jen Oshman
jeudi 13 octobre 2022 • Durée 50:46
“I know what it is to grow up with my identity rooted in something that is temporary, and something that actually does come to steal, kill, and destroy rather than he who gives abundant life. And so it is with some urgency and compassion and drive that I want others to know that as well.” — Jen Oshman
This month’s memory verse: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” — John 10:10
Today’s podcast: Have you ever thought you understood what a Bible verse was saying only to be surprised after taking some time to study it that what you initially thought wasn’t actually the main point? You’re not alone! Don’t miss this conversation between Natalie Abbott and Jen Oshman where they confess their initial misunderstanding of what this verse means, how the Old Testament helps us to understand what Jesus is saying in John 10:10, how to recognize a thief when they come along, and how to encourage ourselves or someone else who is caught up in a lie. Savor the good news today that instead of coming to exploit others like the religious leaders of Jesus’s day were doing, we have a Savior who came for the exact opposite purpose: to lay his own life down so that his people could have abundant life.
Our October Dwell guest: Jen Oshman is an author, speaker, podcaster, missionary, pastor’s wife, and mom to four daughters. She is passionate about helping herself and the women around her understand and remember that we have a Creator and Savior who designed us to live abundantly with him, and that we were made for so much more than the world has to offer us.
