Adam and Brent get into 'Transformers' with Delfinpod head honcho Emmanuel! They talk about what makes the action in this Michael Bay movie different from his others, other iconic franchises from the early-to-mid 2000's, and ponder why the leads of the movie had sex on top of their sentient car! It's a loose, fun one to welcome listeners back after our brief break, and only two episodes are left this season so we hope you enjoy!

Sucker Punch04 Oct 202101:31:33

Adam and Brent get into Zack Snyder's audacious yet messy 2011 action film 'Sucker Punch'! They break down what works about it and what doesn't, where the disconnect might be for fully hitting on all cylinders, and what it means to make 'commentary about geek culture' and the inherent irony in doing so! They also praise Oscar Isaac for bringing a ton of integrity to a role that doesn't really call for it. It's a great breakdown of a real mixed bag of a movie and the guys had a good time getting into it!

S02 Episode 8: The Neon Demon26 Sep 201701:25:51

Join Adam and Brent on the final episode of Season 2, as they continue to be on the run from Dennis, going bunker to attic to bunker, trying to find a place to record. Everything comes to a head on this episode, but before that, they are joined in another undisclosed location by their friend John Casares and Brent’s wife Amy. They talk the final Refn film of the season, ‘The Neon Demon’ and get into the many possibly metaphors in the movie, as well as talk at length about how different people view and interpret film. It’s a bit of a deeper dive into movies in general than the fellas usually go, but it makes for a great final episode of the season, so enjoy and tell your friends about the podcast!

S02 Episode 7: Dazed and Confused11 Sep 201701:28:01

Episode 7 of Season 2

On the penultimate episode of Director Showdown, Brent and Adam are joined by their penultimate Stickerfridge friend David, for a deep dive into the 1993 film ‘Dazed and Confused’. The guys are doing their best to avoid Dennis at all costs, and have found a bunker to watch the film and record in. David brings a ton of fascinating trivia to the table this episode, as the guys talk about the origins of McConaughey, Adam Goldberg (the Hebrew Hammer) and plenty more. There are a few technical hiccups this episode, which I hope you guys can look past. Next week is sure to be a straight-up, by the books entry of Director Showdown, but we hope you enjoyed the episode. Show your friends and family, and thank you for listening!

S02 Episode 6: Only God Forgives04 Sep 201701:18:40

This week, Adam and Brent are joined by a Stickerfridge favorite, Zach! They talk the most divisive Refn film yet, ‘Only God Forgives’ and the hidden layers behind the film, some wild trivia, and their personal origins with the movie. Yet again, the boys are joined by this seasons recurring character, Dennis, who will apparently plague us indefinitely. Again, we apologize profusely, as we want this to stop as much as you do, but please be patient as we look into different methods to deal with the issue. Aside from that, it’s a great episode, so tell your buddies and enjoy!

S02 Episode 5: School of Rock28 Aug 201701:13:54

This week on Director Showdown, it’s School of Rock! Adam and Brent are joined by Stickerfridge ‘Fam Films’ favorite, Brian Menard! Brian tells the guys which director he prefers, they talk about their personal history with the movie, and how different (and mainstream) it is from Linklater’s other films. We had a few technical difficulties this week, hence Brent and Brian sharing a mic, and a (hopefully not too annoying) buzz during the podcast. Regardless, it’s a great, wacky episode and we hope you enjoy it!

P.S. We want to sincerely apologize for Dennis’s continued harassment and annoyances on this new season. We’re doing everything in our power to rid ourselves, and our audience, of this menace. Thank you for understanding.

This week, Brent and Adam talk about Linklater’s experimental 2006 film ‘A Scanner Darkly’ and although they don’t have a friend on this week, are joined (interrupted) by an unexpected (and uninvited) new guest. Hopefully he doesn’t pop in again, but our apologies for his intrusion on this episode. Aside from that, the boys talk about rotoscope animation, how great Robert Downey Jr. is, and a solid amount about drugs! They get into Refn’s incredibly stylized directing, dream up a world with a Ryan Gosling/Dan Stevens rom-com, and even come up with a pretty badass idea for Linklater’s version of Drive. It’s the final movie of Lean’s career so thanks for sticking with us while we wrap things up for this season next episode!

GOTTI24 Aug 202001:46:37

It’s our first random grab-bag bonus episode this season, and we decided to watch Kevin Connolly’s ‘Gotti’. It’s a truly awful movie that the guys had a lot of fun watching, with plenty of fun things to get into about what makes it such a badly executed riff on gangster movie tropes. There’s a lot of Scorsese talk in this one, what makes this movie feel so immature and derivative, as well as John Travolta’s weird and pretty tragic life and career. Brent also has a pretty long tangent about watching all of Entourage. It’s a bit of a wacky one, so we hope you enjoy. Make sure to recommend the show to someone you know, rate/review on your podcast app of choice, and thanks for listening!

The guys get into their favorite moments in the movie, what they believe Waititi’s intention to be in making it, and their final season rankings (and winner???). It’s a great one to cap the season and we want to thank everyone for listening along and showing it to a friend, it’s a been a blast, despite the world coming to a halt around us. Stay home, stay safe, and stay tuned for a bonus episode as well as our 5th Dealers Choice episode!

Also a very deep dive into what Edgar Wright is doing and attempting with this movie, it’s many influences and it potentially not again as well as Wright’s others! It’s a great, in-depth penultimate episode on the season, so make sure to rate/review/subscribe, etc. and tell your quarantined friends and families about the show!

Adam and Brent are once-again joined by John and Delfin from ‘Countdown to Infinity’ to talk Thor: Ragnarok! The guys are back with their wealth of MCU and Marvel comics knowledge to talk one of the better MCU films. The guys get into a lot of Hollywood industry talk, the balance between making a producer-driven movie and being an auteur, and of course how Ragnarok is similar to ‘The Last Jedi’! It’s another extensive and thorough episode talking the MCU at large and Waititi’s first (likely of several) big Hollywood movies!

They get into the depth of ‘The World’s End’ compared to the other Cornetto films, which character they each think they are, and many, many other tangents. It’s a jam-packed episode (one of Director Showdowns longest yet) but a fun one. The guys get into favorite movies in each genre, What various attractions one could find at ‘Waititi World’ (Brent’s is a KILLER joke, one of the best of the season) and what makes ‘Shadows’ a great mockumentary. It’s a fun episode talking one of the best comedies of the last decade (maybe Waititi’s funniest??) so we hope you watched along and enjoy!

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World11 May 202001:57:36

Adam and Brent are talking Edgar Wright’s 3rd feature ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’. They get into the multiple influences that go into making a movie this weird, celebrity crushes, action directing and a brief tangent about Michael Cera’s weird career! It’s a great episode on a (still) underappreciated gem of the early 2010’s, so we hope you enjoy!

Boy04 May 202001:32:35

Adam and Brent are back talking about Waititi and his sophomore effort ‘Boy’! They get into why and how the movie is a drastic improvement on Eagle vs Shark (no offense to lovers of that one), how getting vulnerable and personal helps with authenticity, and Waititi as an actor as well as writer/director. Also the many striking similarities to Spielberg’s ‘E.T.’ It’s maybe their favorite episode of the season yet, finding a lot of good thematic connections and comparisons to make to other unexpected films/properties. Again thank you for listening and tell a friend about the show, and STAY SAFE AND INDOORS!
