Healthcare providers love to put you in the middle when you're diagnosed with LADA, but the truth is, it more closely resembles type 1 diabetes (T1D) than type 2 and speaks to the fact that diabetes is super personal, no matter what type you're living with.

If you've ever felt overwhelmed while managing LADA (or just getting diagnosed in the first place), this episode is for you.

Pregnancy & Type 1 Diabetes: What Every Woman Should Know

Saison 1

jeudi 23 octobre 2025Durée 40:48

Send us Fan Mail

What’s it really like to manage diabetes during pregnancy?

We talked with Dr. Camille E. Powe, a leading expert who helps women navigate this tough but powerful journey. She shared how diabetes care has changed, why insulin resistance is a normal part of pregnancy, and how tools like continuous glucose monitors can make a huge difference.

We also talked about the emotional side—what it’s like to balance stress, blood sugars, and the pressure to “do everything right.” Dr. Powe reminds us that pregnancy isn’t about perfection, it’s about progress and support.

Here’s what we learned:
- Diabetes care in pregnancy keeps improving.
- Insulin resistance is a normal part of pregnancy.
- CGMs can make a big difference.
- Having a supportive care team matters.
- Self-advocacy helps you get the care you deserve.
- No one should feel guilty about their blood sugars.

Watch this episode to learn how women with diabetes can feel more confident, supported, and understood during pregnancy.

Using Tzield to Delay Type 1 Diabetes

Saison 1

jeudi 16 octobre 2025Durée 42:47

If you could delay the onset of type 1 diabetes (T1D), would you?

In this episode of the Diabetes Nerd podcast, I sit down with Stephanie, a mom navigating the world of T1D after her daughter’s recent diagnosis. We discuss what early detection entails, the stages of diabetes, and how Tzield, a groundbreaking therapy, can actually delay the progression of T1D.

Recent studies have shown that Tzield can delay the onset of T1D by an average of:
- 24 months (2 years): in adults and children (ages 8+)
- 32.5 months (2 years and 8.5 months): in a subset of high-risk children

Stephanie opens up about her family’s experience—from the emotional ups and downs to the practical challenges of treatment—and why family screening is so important.
