Through her career, Jordana has honed her ClinOps chops in a number of areas including integrated primary and behavioral care models, clinical quality, health care compliance, revenue cycle, scaling clinical operations, effective clinical workforce management, cross-system partnership and value-based models. Jordana also teaches health policy and financial management to graduate level social workers and runs a career support, networking and coaching business to support individuals seeking career transformation, particularly in healthcare.

Jessica Merino is a Physical Therapist who recently pivoted out of direct patient care and into healthcare performance improvement. In prior roles, she worked in acute care, acute rehab, school based, home health pediatrics, telehealth and digital health. She found herself bouncing from setting to setting as she yearned for continued growth and also "building her toolbox" of skills. She is currently in a full-time non-clinical job at a non-profit organization where she uses her clinical skills to assess performance improvement opportunities in a home care agency. The road to pivoting to a non-clinical position took a lot of self-reflecting and rejections, however - she feels deep in her soul that this new job came at the right time and with the right team, and for that she is grateful.

 This episode features Jaime Cozine.

Jaime Cozine, PT, DPT, OCS holds a physical therapy operations role in the healthcare tech industry.  Jaime applies her broad perspective of the continuum of care and a passion for quality healthcare administration while balancing people management, stakeholder management, and program development in her new non-clinical role.  

Jaime has experience in multiple hospital-based settings ranging from acute care bedside to outpatient rehabilitation.  She attended graduate school at the University of Scranton in PA and has her doctorate in physical therapy from Rutgers University in NJ. She is a certified orthopaedic specialist as well and holds a certificate of competency in vestibular rehabilitation. Jaime has acted in various supplementary roles including as an APTA Certified Clinical Instructor, Center Coordinator of Clinical Education, Aquatic Therapist with a focus on Chronic/ Persistent Pain, College Professor in The Dept of Science and Engineering, Lead Physical Therapist, and Quality Assurance Reviewer.      

Jaime’s goal is to reach other PTs who are expressing interest in roles outside of the clinic and to show them inspiration and hope.

Amy Story is a Physician Assistant turned health tech startup generalist. After spending 7 years in direct patient care between GI and mental health, she transitioned to supporting health tech companies through a range of roles including operations, product, and community.

She is passionate about bringing more clinical voices to the table of health tech and beyond and is an advocate of the many transferable skills of the clinician, both in and outside of the clinic walls.

She recently launched a new venture called Humans in Healthcare, starting with a newsletter sharing the stories and lived experiences of healthcare professionals, patients, and caregivers and building toward the launch of a curated community soon.

She lives in Arizona with her husband and 2 kids and enjoys hiking and exploring and also, a bit of nothing.

Today’s guest in Joseph (Joe) Harrision, MSN, NP

Joseph Harrison was born in Kent, England in 1974. He moved with his family to California at the age of six, where he attended public school and played competitive soccer.  His family returned frequently to the UK during his childhood, supporting Joe’s connections to his family and heritage, and reinforcing his sense of hybrid identity. Joe has always loved people, adventure, advocacy and ideas. He worked in the hospitality industry in various service and managerial roles in his early adulthood, traveling widely between jobs and working in three other countries. 

Joe started college in his mid-twenties, attending multiple community colleges where he excelled academically and enjoyed serving his community as a tutor, community activities and volunteer community mediator. He transferred to UC Berkeley where he studied social theory, theory of change, political economy and other social sciences, resulting in Joe founding a small international Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) called InterAlianza at the time of his graduation. His NGO focussed on community uplift and environmental sustainability for indigenous communities in the highlands of Guatemala. During the founding and operation of InterAlianza Joe worked as a substitute teacher in Oakland, CA.  Teaching was deeply satisfying from a political and relational perspective but was very dissatisfying from the perspective of daily tasks and duties. Knowing that he was looking for something new, Joe took advantage of a move to Seattle, WA to return to school to complete prerequisites to enter a training program to become a Nurse Practitioner. Joe returned to California immediately after taking and passing his board exam and found a great job working as an integrated behavioral health nurse practitioner for adults with disabilities and older adults. 

It was during this time that he met and married the love of his life, Monique. Joe and Monique have two beautiful children, Ciera (5.5) and Jonah (2).

Joe has spent the last two and a half years splitting his time between raising his children and starting and building medical practices to serve older adults in their medical, cognitive and behavioral health needs. He has served as Founder and President, Head of Care Delivery and Chief Clinical Officer.
