Exploration in space games can come in many different shapes and sizes, but Star Citizen has never comprehensively defined all the parts of its own version. I wanted to discuss the things we know, the things CIG has hinted at, and what the community has speculated may be included.

For this talk I brought together members of the community from touring, industrial surveying, deep space exploration, and org-based gameplay to discuss their own perspectives.

Star Citizen 3.19 brought with it a huge rebalance to mining and resource distribution across Star Citizen. This was a surprise, and ended up being a layer or polish that helped make last year’s gadgets and all other components make more sense. I brought in the most well known mining enthusiasts in the community to make a consensus. Has basic mining gameplay reached a level we are satisfied with?

There’s a lot of debate around what is and is not acceptable for Star Citizen, especially with the recent (very) rough launch of Alpha 3.18. Given the feature and backend additions, constant balancing and tweaking, and overall unfinished state, it does feel like an alpha, but with marketing and a timeline that would lead some to believe more, that can be confusing.

While we have seen successes on this front, hesitation in sharing bad news, and withholding information until it’s convenient have started to wear on the community.
