Welcome to the Burundi to Gombe podcast. In this episode we start our journey hearing from Debby Cox – African Wildlife Consultant to the Jane Goodall Institute. Debby has spent many years living and working in East Africa, and has been instrumental in the conservation of chimpanzees in the region. Debby is one of the key people behind the effort to raise awareness and funding for the Musée Vivant Zoo, a home for chimpanzees in Burundi.

Although most well known for her work studying chimpanzees and reshaping the perceptions of science in the mid 20th century, Dr Jane Goodall has gone on to live a life dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of protecting and preserving the natural world. Jane’s legacy, the Jane Goodall Institute, which Jane founded in 1977 now has offices all over the world. In this episode we hear from James Forbes, at the time of recording James was the CEO of the Jane Goodall Institute Australia, JGIA. It is through the work of JGIA that the effort to improve the chimpanzee living conditions in Musée Vivant Zoo, Burundi, is occurring.
