Francois Botha is a lifelong fly angler and adventurer from South Africa. He's traveled the world chasing some of the most renown and relatively unknown species of fresh and saltwater fish on earth. He's spent the better part of the last two decades chasing the goliath tigerfish on fly, even when others said it can't be done. His journey into the Congo and Central Africa is a unique tale of facing adversity, naysayers, and ultimately fulfilling a dream.
In this episode we talk about the journey and the challenge of finding and capturing goliath tigerfish on fly. We talk about partnerships and efforts to ensure the conservation of the species, the unique river systems they're found in, and the development of Goliath Expeditions.

Eric Planer is a fishing guide out of South Florida where he specializes in the pursuit of Florida's unique exotic freshwater fish species. On his 'Flo Bass' youtube channel and instagram pages he highlights the experience of chasing fish like peacock bass and snakeheads... but perhaps most unique among them is the clown knifefish.
In this episode we talk about the introduction and pursuit of this bizarre but sporty new species to Florida waters. Taiki Okubo joins the Boundless Pursuit podcast this week from the complete opposite end of the globe. An avid angler out of Japan, Taiki is often chasing some of the most familiar species to anglers here in the US! We talk about Japan's flourishing populations of largemouth and smallmouth bass, channel catfish, salmonids, bluegill and other American transplants. We talk about the perception these popular American species have in Japan, and the growing culture of chasing these fish on artificial lures.
We also talk about some of Taiki's amazing travels... including a solo backpacking expedition through the Amazon jungle targeting arapaima, wolf fish, and peacock bass on lures - purely on the merit of his own ambition. We talk monster toman snakeheads in Malaysia, and introduced northern snakeheads in Japan. We discuss some of Japan's unique native species like the Japanese baramundi (akame) and its unique saltwater scene.

The Citadel is the military college of South Carolina where day to day life consists of early mornings, strenuous physical fitness regimens, strict academic standards, and adherence to a code of honor. Its fishing club is a unique blend of anglers of varying experience from around the country all confined within the gates of a military school.
We talk about the structure of the organization, its activities, and ideas for growth and engagement. We talk about the broader topic of the growth of fishing among college age men and women across the country as well!
