176. I'm Back! Part Three-My Husband's Attempt and Immediate Shifts21 Jan 202600:42:54

The moment my world froze: July 14th, 2025, as I was sitting in a parking lot with my daughter, while our lives unraveled.

This episode is the hardest one yet — raw details of the day my husband attempted suicide, the whirlwind that followed, and the impossible choices I had to make in the chaos.

I'll be sharing a lot of intimate details publicly despite the inevitable pushback... because vulnerability and community are exactly what kept me from crumbling during the hardest moments.

Content note: This episode discusses a suicide attempt, mental health crisis, and related trauma. If you're in crisis, please call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or chat at 988lifeline.org.

You are NOT alone.

175. I'm Back! Part Two-Rebuilding from the Ground Up20 Jan 202600:29:58

After the Costa Rica high and the painful decision to leave my marriage, I decided to rebuild everything — starting with myself, my energy, and Birthworker.com...

In this episode, I share the raw, real details of that first chapter of starting over as a single mom and entrepreneur:

  • How reclaiming my energy felt like magic after years of daily fights draining everything out of me...
  • How the exact same “I’ll just do it all because I can” pattern from my marriage had been quietly killing my business too — and what happened when I finally broke the cycle
  • Losing my nanny, stepping into full single-mom mode… and the huge irony: carrying the load alone felt easier without the shadow of a failing relationship...
  • The warp-speed rebuild that had me 99% ready to relaunch by early July… and feeling more like me than I had in years...

If you’re in a season of rebuilding — whether it’s your business, your family, or your whole damn life — this one’s for you.

When you stop pouring energy into what drains you, you finally get to pour it into what lights you up. Sometimes the scariest changes unlock everything else.

67. Unmasking the Truth of Maternity Care with Birth Expert, Henci Goer14 Jun 202301:09:30

Are you ready to support your doula clients using the most powerful tool on your belt?

In this episode, I am joined by my favorite author, Henci Goer. We are chatting about the impossibility of unbiased maternity care, and what you can do as a doula to help.

To put it lightly, mainstream obstetric research can be… dodgy. It rarely considers the mother’s well-being and is highly motivated by control, economic gains, and legal protection. Putting the research into mom’s hands will give her the confidence to make evidence-based decisions during her birth experience, and give her a better chance at the birth outcome she has envisioned.

Henci is an acknowledged expert on evidence-based maternity care, an award-winning medical writer, and an internationally known speaker. Her most well-known book is “Obstetric Myths Versus Research Realities,” which is used and referenced widely across the childbirth community.

If you’re tired of hearing doctors push their non-evidence-based opinions, then you’ll wanna listen up!

Have you ever wondered if you, as a doula, how you can actually help impact the declining state of maternity care in your community?

In this episode, Jessica Johnston and I will be talking about the broken maternity care system and how it’s affecting marginalized communities.

Jessica Johnston is the Director of Development for the Pacific Birth Institute, as well as a midwife in Anchorage, Alaska. Strategy and large-scale organization for efficiency in training models are one of Jennifer’s greatest strengths. In her past life, she helped organize, open, train, and restructure four restaurants in her first 14-year career as a server and front-of-house manager. But now being a midwife and a steward of the legacy and longevity of midwifery, she gets to take that same passion and apply it to the infrastructure of regenerative community-based maternity care access for clients and providers alike.

  • “When is the best time to ask an in-person doula client for a testimonial? And do you have any certain questions that you ask?”

37. The Doula Dilemma: Should Birthworkers Niche Down?22 Feb 202300:23:54

Have you been debating whether or not to “niche down” and serve a specific subset of pregnant women rather than trying to serve everyone?

If you’ve been wondering why so many business coaches are talking about “niching down”, but you’re not quite on board, then get out a pen and paper, this episode is for you.

Almost everyone starts out their birthworker journey wanting to serve everyone, and understandably so! I was once there too! But I’m here to say, you won’t find success in the online business world unless you get clear on who your serve by “niching down.”

If you’re tired of feeling stuck, not getting clients, or having trouble connecting with your audience, then you wanna listen up!
