In today's episode, I am joined by Jonathan Channing. 

Jonathan is the Owner & Director of JC Property Consultancy Limited, where he supports stakeholders in the residential property management sector. With a wealth of experience, Jonathan's expertise spans areas such as managing agent selection, operational efficiencies, software choices, health & safety compliance, and much more.

Jonathan works with renowned suppliers including Earl Kendrick, Bridge Insurance, Dwellant, Cledor and Masterfix to name just a few. He also serves as an honorary consultant with the FPRA, providing invaluable assistance to residents associations, RMCs, and RTMs, and works closely with managing agents in a marketing, advisory and operational capacity. 

As an RMC director himself, Jonathan brings a unique perspective to the table. His firsthand experience and deep understanding of managing agents' concerns make for an engaging conversation that highlights the challenges and successes of the property management industry.

But that's not all. Jonathan is also the co-founder of Proper Talk, a platform that hosts panel discussions on various topics related to property management. As the host of Proper Talk, Jonathan ensures that important issues are discussed openly, allowing for a diverse range of perspectives and audience participation.

In today's episode, I'll explore Jonathan's journey, his insights on the evolving landscape of property management, and the importance of collaboration within the industry.

Nigel Glen | Navigating the Complexities of Block Management and Net Zero

In this captivating episode of Beyond Four Walls, we sit down with the extraordinary Nigel Glen. Nigel's journey is nothing short of fascinating. With a doctorate in animal behaviour, he embarked on an international career spanning the global oil, financial software, and investment banking sectors. In 2009, he took a bold step into the property management industry by founding his own company, which he successfully sold in 2016.

Nigel's leadership skills were soon recognised as he was appointed CEO of the Association of Residential Managing Agents (ARMA). During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in engaging with government ministries, Parliament, TV, and the press through challenging times, including the Grenfell tragedy and the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2022, he orchestrated the merger between ARMA and the IRPM to form The Property Institute (TPI), becoming its Executive Chair with a keen focus on Net Zero.

In 2023, Nigel joined the board of Emeria, the world's largest property services company, with a staggering turnover of €1.5 billion. He also serves as a special industry advisor for Fixflo, a proptech company, and an ESG advisor to the Residential Freehold Association. Beyond his professional achievements, Nigel's enduring fascination with science and the natural world continues to inspire him.

Emily Gray, the Operations Director for Burns Hamilton, a leading property management firm based in Dorset, serving clients in Dorset, Hampshire, and Wiltshire. With over 17 years of experience in property management, Emily has established herself as a dedicated professional, committed to delivering exceptional standards of service to customers and fostering the wellbeing of her team.

Not only is Emily a respected figure in the field, but she is also actively involved in industry organisations. As a Fellow of The Property Institute, she contributes her expertise to the institute's Wellbeing Working Group. 

Additionally, Emily serves as an Honorary Consultant for the Federation of Private Residents' Associations and proudly represents the South-West as an Ambassador for Doyenne, an organisation celebrating women in leasehold.

Among her many accomplishments, Emily's standout moment was winning the prestigious Property Woman of the Year award at the inaugural ARMA Awards in 2017. This recognition speaks volumes about her dedication and expertise in the field.

Emily's passion for promoting the sector and highlighting its exciting opportunities will inspire listeners to look beyond the challenges and embrace the potential within property management.

Shelley Jacobs | Business Psychology and Block Management

Shelley Jacobs was the original employee of MLM and joined in 2003. She has been an integral part of the growth and development of MLM and currently overseas the operational and strategic aspects of running MLM. Shelley is a Business Psychologist and a qualified psychometric tester using personality inventory NEO PI3. Shelley delivers Resilience and Leadership training courses on behalf of ARMA. Shelley is a public speaker and has been asked to deliver key notes speeches and webinars on a variety of topics including Wellbeing in the Property Management Industry.

Outside of work Shelley is an artist and regularly participates in a variety of artistic endeavours.

Random Fact, Shelley is completing a lifelong project where she photographs street signs called Shelley in the UK. The project began in 2005 as part of Shelley’s MA in Fine Art and it received a variety of media attention at that time.
