From Proving to Paving: Leading From the Inside Out
jeudi 11 juin 2026 • Durée 40:40
What does it take to stop leading from the front, not becauseyou are stepping away, but because you have realized that the most lasting impact comes from a different place? Rebecca Vermeulen, Vice President at Genentech and 2025 HBA Star Award recipient, spent over thirty years buildingher leadership identity around what she could accomplish and how well she could lead. And then she took a sabbatical that changed how she understood all of it.
In this episode, Rebecca and Sabine explore the successaddiction and what it takes to recognize it in yourself, the difference between leading from the front and sitting in the sea with your team, the inner voice that gets louder the longer you ignore it, and the ongoing weekly practice of catching reactive leadership and choosing the power of a pause instead. Rebecca also shares the book that shaped her thinking during the sabbatical and why she invested in an Enneagram coach to hold the shift in place.
For any leader who has wondered whether stepping back might actually be the most powerful thing they could do right now, this conversation is for you.

When Men Read a Leadership Book for Women
jeudi 27 novembre 2025 • Durée 48:28
Four men. One book written for women. And a question:Do we really lead so differently, or are the foundations of good leadership the same for all of us?
When Sabine invited Ben Osborn, Cyrus Park, Damiano Urbinello, and Patrick Bartosch to read Beyond the Ladder and explore its accompanying workbook, she wasn’t just curious; she wanted honest feedback. Could the stories, reflections, and exercises written for women also resonate with men? Could they see themselves in the themes of purpose, courage, and clarity and apply them in their own leadership journeys?
What unfolded was a conversation that went beyond gender. It became a space for reflection on fairness, empathy, trust, and the courage to lead with integrity. Together, they discussed legacy, vulnerability, and the kind of leadership that creates belonging, not just performance.
The dialogue moved between laughter and insight, challenge and recognition. There were moments where the book’s ideas took on new meaning through their perspectives, reminders that leadership, at its heart, is human before it’s hierarchical.
This episode isn’t about difference; it’s about connection, curiosity, and listening. And it’s about how the language of leadership might not need rewriting, just expanding.
