When you say ‘France’, chances are most people will think ‘cheese’.

One goes with the other! Some cheese, a glass of wine and a fresh baguette, it is like the French Trinity.  Tasting cheese might actually be on the top of your list of things to do when visiting France. At least it should be! For this last episode of the season, we wanted to share our very own “cheesy” thoughts and experiences. 

What is it like to discover French cheese for an American? And how about when you’re French, born and raised amongst all this cheese? Is Cheese Etiquette a thing? 

French Cheeses are sometimes weird, often stinky, and almost always excellent. There’s literally nothing like it. 

It is so French. And so wonderful!

When you watch a French movie, it might happen that you do not quite get exactly what’s going on. Or the film makes you somewhat uncomfortable. And maybe you have a good laugh. 

With this movie, you will experience all of the above.

Un Air de Famille is still to this  day considered a masterpiece in French cinema. Directed by Cédric Klapish, written and  starring Agnés Jaoui  and Jean-Pierre Bacri,  with Catherine Frot and Jean-Pierre Darroussin , it certainly has star power!   So most people have seen it, and those who have not, have probably heard of it. If you stay long enough in France, there is no way you can ignore its existence!

Cringy yet funny, embarrassing yet touching, nonsensical yet to the point, this movie is certainly memorable. And so French! To find out how and why, listen to this new episode!

When it comes to discovering a country, no way is a bad way. A movie, for example, can be quite a pleasant way to visit a country, to meet some of its people and experience the culture. In this new episode, we introduce you to a fun French romantic comedy:  « Prête-moi ta main » . 

This Rom-Com, from French director Eric Lartigau,  was a hit  when it came out in 2006 largely due to the stars of the film:  Alain Chabat and Charlotte  Gainsbourg . To us, this movie is so deliciously French that we figured we would add it to our list of “unmissables”!

So what is the French Touch? 

Maybe a kind of electro dance jazzy disco funky pop?  It has been gathering inspiration from all sorts of musical genres everywhere and somehow remains very French while having quite an international sound.

This atmospheric music has seeped into our “quotidien” and become the unofficial soundtrack to our lives here in France.
