At the heart of this is a belief that connection conquers all: feeling connected to the brand you build; the audience you attract and the work you deliver. Connection = clarity, confidence and conversion.

An award-winning business journalist, Matt 'caught the bug' and has since set up and co-founded numerous businesses including his own content marketing agency, business support service Smarta.com and The Freedom Collective coaching business with Shaa Wasmund MBE and Beardpoo, a beard shampoo brand that gives 25% of its profits to help fight male suicide.

In this episode, we’re diving into entrepreneurship from an Asian female perspective.

The One About Walking Your Talk01 Apr 202000:25:49

The world is changing fast, and old patriarchal systems are being replaced with something new.

Over the last few weeks we’ve had a chance to slow down, to listen, and to observe some of our own truths, and in this episode I discuss what it means to truly step into trusting ourselves and source, and taking inspired action in a time that feels uncertain.

Listen on for:
  • How this time is making us unable to hide from our shadows
  • How not everything new and different is bad, sometimes it’s really cool
  • The joining of energies to create a space that can hold you completely
  • This time can be about giving you the strength to take off your armour
  • You’re allowed to be messier, more chaotic, and fully express yourself
  • The safety of a true container created for you to be fully yourself, can help you face things that ordinarily would feel too much
  • Being able to completely drop societal expectations about “who” we should be
  • The choice to act on the wisdom of the universe without knowing what comes next

He now speaks from his experience on both sides of the gender coin, empowering men and women to live authentically and powerfully, while also making more money following their passion and their gut. The One About Shame And Guilt18 Mar 202000:29:59

Shame and guilt are two of the topics I get asked to talk about most frequently, so in this episode, I’m delivering!

When we feel feelings of shame, it’s often attached to a feeling of vulnerability, which can often be interpreted as weakness… but we get to flip the script on that. And while guilt is typically less painful than shame (because we see it as being more useful) it can still have a negative impact on our businesses and lives.

In this episode, I’m pulling apart the strands of shame, guilt, vulnerability and judgement and talking about how we can make moves towards a more value filtered life.

Listen on for:
  • What shame and guilt actually are (and what the difference is)
  • How you can alchemise some of those things you feel ashamed of and turn them into superpowers
  • Self-awareness and personal responsibility are where it’s at. Blame does not remove shame!
  • What happens when you go against your (or someone else’s) values
  • How to shift our feelings of shame and guilt
  • Society’s role in our feelings of shame and guilt
  • The distinction between guilt, procrastination and self-sabotage

The One About Gender Expression11 Mar 202000:24:07

There’s a lot of conditioning that’s been going on for the past few hundred years with regards to masculinity and femininity - with what it means to be a man and what it means to be a woman.

Gender identity is a broad and complex topic, and in this episode we’re scratching the surface and talking about expressing and embodying the aspects of masculine and feminine energy that are US at our core.

Meet Jonathan Beal

A mentor and coach for men, Jonathan has spent over 10 years in the personal development space, he believes in supporting men in the mental, emotional and physical adventure & exploration that brings men to full embodiment, that ultimately brings them home to the truth of who they really are.

Listen on for:
  • What we’re taught about gender from a societal perspective (and how it’s bullshit)
  • The evolution of the conversations we (as a society) have been having around gender, and sexuality and relationship dynamics.
  • The colour and diversity of gender identity (and how we’ll never get bored of exploring that!)
  • The desire to understand, which frees people up to experiment for themselves.
  • The magic of sex.
  • The importance of intimacy with yourself and others (and how it all boils down to self-awareness and self-trust).
  • Undivided attention and active listening are the key to unlocking profound relationships.

  • The truth about what you’re seeking, the expression of your masculine energy, and the expression of your feminine energy
  • How to find your “yes” and your “no”

The One About Embodying Your Design with Charlie Brown20 Jun 202401:01:47

This weeks episode is the fourth in a mini series where I am chatting with people who I feel are truly embodying their design or who I have seen really embracing their Human Design experiment. This week's guest is Charlie Brown, a photographer who wants people to see themselves through the same eyes as their family and friends do. She very generously let me dive into her Human Design and together we explore what she understands already and then we go deeper. Charlie is a 6/2 Generator and her Conscious Sun and 'life's work' is code 25 - The Spirit of Love...

Listen in if you want to know:
  • The unique magic of being a Generator
  • What it means to have undefined centres
  • Why knowing your design stops comparison and removes competition
  • How you can discover more about your design even when you already embody your design.
  • The aha's that Charlie got from our chat and The Kismet Code cards

If you are ready to take your first next step, I invite you to get your Value Filter, which I lovingly refer to as YOUR COMPASS. Its my signature tool and a prerequisite for all my other programs. To find out more, and activate your inner GPS go here: https://www.ebonieallard.com/the-value-filter

Meet Charlie Brown

Photography has the ability to capture that twinkle in someone’s eye. It can make an image feel alive. I want people to see themselves through the same eyes as their family and friends do.

I help people to have a collection of images that truly represent their life and personality in an authentic way, with a hint of magic.

It’s so important to me to capture people authentically. Even if the image has a creative edge to it, I’m still wanting that person’s personality to be weaved in and out of every part of it.

“A picture paints a thousand words”

This rings true for me. This is what makes photography so important. At the end of the best day ever, it’s the photos that can remind YOU of what an amazing time you had. When your babies are all grown up it’s the only way to freeze time, and if you’re in business for yourself it’s the way to shine brightly enough to attract your ideal clients. Show them who you are and what makes you different.

The One About Calming Your Autonomic Nervous System19 Feb 202000:23:49

It’s known that almost all of the body’s functions are controlled by the ANS (autonomic nervous system) - it’s actually around 90% of the body that the ANS innovates.

The One About Misfit Misconceptions05 Feb 202000:29:29

Do you ever feel like you’re sleepwalking through your day?

In this episode, I’m talking you through the 8 lies and the 8 truths that will bust through your overwhelm and resistance, and leave you loving your business and life.

I want to show you just how possible it is for you to really live from being awake and in a place of superflow, rather than having to fall back into the “do, do, do” of life.

Listen on for:
  • My thoughts on positivity, and how it is not always the best way forward if your mission is to create intimacy with your people.
  • Money-based mind monkeys that are still tripping you up and holding you back.
  • The importance of balancing hard work and belief (one or the other is not enough!)
  • Where to look for your validation (and why it’s so important to get it in the first place!)

The One About Self Determination30 Jan 202000:34:51
Meet Heather Thorkelson

Heather Thorkelson is a Canadian dual entrepreneur living in rural Sweden. She grew up living all over the world and in her early 30's, finally took the leap to self-employment and never looked back. In 2013 she was living in Peru working as an online business consultant when she went to Antarctica, fell in love, and by 2015 she had opened a second business - a polar expedition company. She has just finished writing a book for incurable entrepreneurs, titled No Plan B, which will be released in Spring 2020.

In this episode, we’re looking at the topic of personal responsibility and how, especially as entrepreneurs, we should be responsible for our experience, for our output and also for our errors (that’s a big one!).

It’s a lot “easier” to pass the buck, blame others and avoid admitting our screw ups but that is not adulting. Adulting means practicing compassion for yourself, but also taking full responsibility for how you show up in the world.

Listen on for:
  • Thoughts on running multiple businesses at the same time - it doesn’t have to be difficult!
  • The importance of owning the expertise you have - even if you feel you’re lacking in other areas.
  • What to do when you start feeling like there’s too much on your shoulders - overwhelm happens!
  • How to feel grateful for relationships in your life that might be difficult or unconventional.
  • The distinction between fear of the unknown and fear of something that’s actually dangerous.

The One About Choosing Yourself22 Jan 202000:19:42

Are you going through life being more than a little co-dependent? Being a people pleaser? A martyr? Always putting others first?

Join the club. I’ve spent most of my life making those same choices.

Sometimes these choices come from need. Sometimes they’re incredibly useful and resourceful strategies, at moments when your safety depends on them. But that doesn’t mean you need to stick with those same self-limiting decisions forever.

As I’ve matured and my circumstances have changed - as I’ve built a life and a business that feels as good on the inside as it looks on the outside - I have really focused on my values. Value filtered living is where it’s at!

In this week’s episode, I’m looking at why choosing yourself is the key to becoming a truly kickass and kind human.

Listen on for:
  • The disservice you’re currently doing to yourself (and your audience) and what you can do about it.
  • The impact that choosing myself has had on my business and what I offer the world.
  • My wild intentions for this year… and how you can help me achieve them!
  • Journaling prompts to help you define what choosing yourself really means for you, and figure out how to take action on that.

The One About Feminine Conditioning16 Jan 202000:32:26

In this episode of Adulting with Ebonie (the last of season 1), I’m chatting with Jo Casey about Feminine Conditioning.

Jo helps coaches and healers to get more clients without sacrificing soul or sanity. She’s a certified coach, speaker, trainer and host of the meaningful business podcast. In addition to being British, Jo is slightly nerdy and determined to help women overcome their female conditioning so that we can step out, be seen and thrive.

You can find Jo online and on social media at:

Fav quotes from this episode:

“Adulting is owning my own shit, emotionally’

“We’re given a skewed and limited view of what ‘good’ femininity is”

“As a woman you are made of magic. What are you going to do with it?”

“Sometimes we tie up the money that we charge with our own personal value”

“Magic is priceless… or at least worth the cost of a two week holiday!”

“Feminine Conditioning is just propaganda!”

“The human race needs a huge wave of creative problem solving and empathy. We’ve got some big shit to sort out!”

“I love men. I love masculinity in its rawest form.”

“One of the scary things about running your own business is the fact that you get to make the rules!’”

“I’m an adult but I cry and feel like I’m 6 years old when I have to look at my tax return”

In this episode we talk about:

**The importance of wildness, creativity, playfulness and childlike curiosity in our lives.

**It’s only when we take control of our own emotional responses that we can move through life responsibly, without dumping our shit on other people! (as much as possible)

**The difference between ‘responsible’ feminine and ‘irresponsible’ feminine, and between being ‘responsible’ and being a ‘good girl’.

**How we can relate Elsa from ‘Frozen’ to our own lives and conditioning.

**How we’ve been conditioned to associate creative and caring professions with a lower financial value than some other professions, like sport, law or science, which are perceived as more pragmatic/logical/data driven roles with a more ‘masculine’ energy.

**The importance of recognising the value that you can provide, and the transformation that you can facilitate in others.

**How when we’re talking about feminine conditioning, we’re not just talking about women - men have feminine energies too, and have also been conditioned.

**That we’re not always aware of conditioning taking place

**How working 9-5, Monday to Friday was set up for some men based on their cycle.  This ‘model’ of business doesn’t work for all of us though. We’ve got the freedom to design something that works for us!

Plus, we talk about what the number one skill you need as a business owner is.

“There have been so many interesting conversations that we’ve had since December 2017 and I want to continue to have incredible conversations with incredible people”

In this episode I talk about:

  • The importance of reviewing the last decade, and establishing what exactly the protagonist of your story (you) gets to do in the next chapter.
  • A review of the last 109 episodes and the topics we have covered from the first ever guest episode of Adulting with Ebonie back in December 2017 with Thais Sky on the topic of Bypassing and Privilege.
  • The episodes of ‘Adulting With Ebonie’ that touched on the topic of personal boundaries and relationships - starting from episode four with Amy Mitchell, I’ve talked about relationships with so many of my guests; I chatted with Nadia Munla about Tantrums, discussed communication with Elloa and Nige, and talked about resilience with Ty Johnson Anderson.  We also explored the masculine and feminine with Sarah Akwisombe in ‘Yin and Yang in Business’ - something I’ll be exploring in greater depth this season. Some of the most popular episodes of the series include ‘Choosing Not To Have Children’ with Diana Mayor, as well as conversations on infertility with Alice Fyles and surrogacy with JoAn Richardson. I also discussed the topic of intimacy with Stacey Hererra and the issue of co-dependent behaviour with Jo Westwood.
  • The episodes of ‘Adulting with Ebonie’ that focused on body, health and wellbeing, including the episode on body rebellion and listening with Stella Stathi, talking about holistic health with Jo Gamble and breaking out of diet culture with Harri Rose.  I also chatted with Hazel Butler about mental health and Sam Hearne about overcoming anxiety.
  • How many of the most popular episodes of this season touched on the idea of spirituality and self, including the episode on Spirituality and Money with Sarupa Shah, conversations on intuition with Sam Mant, a discussion on Jungian Personality Typing with CS Joseph and the episode on Lucid Dreaming and Shadow Work with Charlie Morley.
  • That we’ve talked money this season too, from the ‘Juicy Sexy Money’ episode with Lara Rose Duong to my conversation with Rosie Sloesek about business finances and self-care

Plus, I talk about going deeper with my guests next season, and the changes coming up in Season 2 of ‘Adulting With Ebonie’.

The One About Getting To Things 'Late' In Life02 Jan 202000:31:06

In this week's episode, Ebonie chats with Laurence Shorter about 'getting to things late in life'.

Laurence is a creative entrepreneur, speaker, coach and recently - a talk show host! His books include “The Optimist - one man’s search for the brighter side of life”, “A global tour of the world’s most positive people”, and “The lazy guru’s guide to life”, a cartoon book that advocates doing nothing as a new approach to mindfulness.

He lives in East Sussex with his wife and two children and helps stressed-out business owners to relax when he’s not at home writing.

Find out more about Laurence on his website: http://www.lazyguru.co.uk/ or on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thelazyguru/

Fav quotes from this episode:

“I can draw a line before and after I had children in terms of adulting”

“I wasn’t just slow off the mark with my career, I was slow off the mark with everything!”

“You never stop becoming an adult”

‘When I talk about myself and my own woes, it’s funny!’

“It’s easier to talk about sex than God!”

“Sometimes you have to trust yourself to just ‘be’”

“I’m an adult but… I’m addicted to tea and coffee”

In this episode we talk about:

  • The difference between being an adult and behaving like an adult
  • How there is something beautiful in sharing the tragedies and struggles of being a human
  • How that at some point in life you realise you’re never going to read every book, watch every film, watch every Netflix series, and it’s nice to just do nothing!
  • How taking a little bit of time out can actually be the catalyst for increased productivity as well as reducing the risk of burnout.

Plus, we talk about how not having your shit together in your twenties isn’t a sign of what is to come for the rest of your life!

The One About Breaking Out Of Diet Culture26 Dec 201900:30:43

This week, Ebonie chats with Harri Rose about 'breaking out of diet culture'.

Harri is a certified health coach and author specialising in unapologetic body acceptance. Through her one-to-one coaching, workshops, and writing, Harri teaches her clients how to love their bodies, find more self-compassion and discover what wellness means to them. Her new book ‘You are enough’ is out now. She is also co-creator at the Anti-Diet Riot Club and an emotional resilience trainer with Tough Cookie.

You can find Harri's website online at https://www.harrirose.com/

Fav quotes from this episode:

“I thought by now I would have all my shit together!’

“It’s a bit hard, isn’t it, this adulting stuff”

“A lot of the trauma that happens around food happens at home”

“We need to give ourselves permission to enjoy this festive tradition of feasting… it’s normal, it’s Christmas!”

“Food doesn’t have to be hard”

“There’s no perfect diet”

“You need a rebel attitude to bust out of diet culture and the unrealistic expectations of what we should be looking like!”

“I’m an adult but… time-keeping is hard! I’m perpetually late”

In this episode we talk about:

  • The impact that breakups and other major life transitions can have on your long term happiness and becoming a more authentic version of yourself
  • That major decisions don’t have to last a lifetime! Life is long and we are allowed to change.
  • Why there doesn’t seem to be a boundary with family members when it comes to making comments about body image, and why it’s worth making coping plans for the Christmas period when you’re likely to come into contact with people who make these comments.
  • How it’s people’s own projections of body confidence and beauty that causes them to make comments and assumptions about your relationship with food, diet and your body.
  • That the ‘thin ideal’ is just one standard of beauty, but that it controls so much of what we think and do.
  • How the process and journey to making peace with food isn’t easy, but it is possible.
  • “Fat” isn’t a feeling - if you are feeling “Fat”, it could be that you are feeling sad, you are feeling sluggish. It’s important to establish what the underlying feelings are.

Plus, we talk about how gentle movement STILL COUNTS when it comes to improving health and wellbeing, and that you don’t need to be “smashing it” in terms of exercise to see and feel the benefits.

Since 2013, Viktor has lived in five countries and worked with clients all over the globe on his journey to make sense of how to engage with rituals in the modern world.

“Christmas is a ritual on steroids.” – EA

In this episode we talk about:

  • How being fiercely independent without creating a community around you can leave you feeling isolated
  • How ritual can be a powerful tool to experiment with your own boundaries and to change and grow
  • The “before” and “after” time that exists in the context of ritual, and the transformation that lies in between those moments
  • How to ritualise everyday acts

Plus, we talk about Viktor’s personal journey to discovering the power of ritual.

Meet Lisa Fabrega...

Fav quotes from this episode:

“Do I have the capacity to receive that which I say I want to create?”

“Sometimes it’s ok to feel like a fraud because it keeps us in integrity.”

“When we are in a place of capacity we have discernment, we have equanimity, we have sovereignty and we have boundaries.”

“Boundaries are bigger than just saying no and putting up walls. Boundaries are about making specific requests to the universe about what we want.”

“The whole point of this journey is to get to be yourself and to enjoy it.”- EA

In this episode we talk about:
  • What our ‘capacity’ is. And why it’s vital to up-level it if we want to up-level our lives or businesses
  • The four pillars of Lisa’s capacity work
  • Getting to the real root of low self-confidence
  • Feeling like a fraud. Does it mean that you’re not living in alignment with your soul’s purpose? Or is it another part of the jigsaw puzzle? We discuss.
  • Lisa gives us an invaluable ‘self-assessment’ quiz to get a very clear picture of where you are and what to do next in terms of your capacity

Plus, we talk about how important it is to learn to do things in the way that works for you, otherwise, you end up wasting time and money.

“Community is so vital if you want to succeed.”

“Who would you be without your business?”

“If you try to be everything, you end up being nothing.”

  • Learning to make decisions that really feel right, rather than being influenced by other people’s expectations and assumptions
  • How your perfect life is going to be radically different from anyone else’s, and the importance of embracing and honouring that

Fav quotes from this episode:

“If you haven’t got a group of people who have got your back, it’s easy to fall into old patterns’

“Now, most of the time, I am an actual adult!”

“Before MORE, I got caught up in victim mode - a lot!”

“It’s so much more fun to be your own knight in shining armour!”

“Adulting is making a conscious choice to do whatever I want, and to forgive and embrace my inner child.”

“A big piece of adulting is letting everyone else be adults and deal with their own emotions and feelings”

“Adulting is being patiently impatient”

“It’s okay to let go of control - shit is going to happen anyway!”
