1 More Thing Podcast #030: Dysfunction - Donk, Eclecticism and ADHD

Saison 1 · Épisode 30

jeudi 4 décembre 2025Durée 01:30:09

For our latest deep discussion Dave Columbo welcomes Dysfunction, a fellow Welsh DJ and advocate of the more extreme outposts of the musical multi-verse.

A long-time friend of the platform but now fully fledged crew; following months of Demo Drop contributions and a legendary donk b2b at a Twitch convention, Dysfunction made their label debut with Confusion EP in November 2025. The EP dropped just days before we recorded this conversation, documenting that strange era of suspense, excitement and fear that comes just before a release.

This conversation goes super deep as Cai shares their origin story, their encyclopedic knowledge of music and theory-trained roots, how they embrace their ADHD as a creative artist and how their mental health has improved over the years.

Loaded with all kinds of technical talk along the way, this chat does not hold back. And there are a few little jump-scares along the way, too!

Check out Dysfunction's Confusion EP. Out now on 1 More Thing.

From Memphis to Mumbai: Imaganimatrix is fusing dance styles on a whole new level (1MT Podcast 29)

Saison 1 · Épisode 29

mardi 28 octobre 2025Durée 01:00:33

We're proud to share with you our first podcast with a street dancer. Get to know Imaganimatrix, India's first certified Memphis Jookin practitioner!

Imaganimatrix came into our world through Quentin Hiatus when he commissioned these two incredible videos to help us promote our release with him this summer.

We were so inspired by his moves and his gravity defying art, we called him up to find out about his journey and how a kid from the east got so inspired by a style from the west.

We left knowing so much more. This is a unique story of an artist who is fusing his own path and style between two highly expressive worlds that are thousands of kilometres awway in reality but maybe not so far away physically, creatively and soulfully.

Get to know!

1 More Thing New Generation Podcast #003 : Viridity

Saison 1 · Épisode 3

mercredi 15 janvier 2025Durée 26:35

Welcome to our first podcast of 2025!

Annelies Rom is back with a fresh episode in our series that focuses solely on the new generation of artists in bass music.

This time we are chatting to Viridity!

Nominated by Ekstatic in the last episode, Viridity is an inspiring young UK artist who slays many ways. A producer, DJ and vocalist, Viridity was previously a graduate of Hospital Records' Women In Music mentorship and now working closely with Shogun Records. This isn't her first 1 More Thing rodeo, either. We highlighted her way back in 2020 as an artist aged under 20 to watch in the 2020s.

Five years later we reconnect and catch up. Over the course of half an hour Viridity takes us through the challenges of being a new generation artist, the differences between generation's tastes and expectations, imposter syndrome, diversity and plenty more.

As always, our guest nominates the next guest in this series. Stay tuned and find out who we'll be featuring next!

Please welcome Murdock to the 1 More Thing podcast. DJ, producer and promoter behind some of the biggest raves in European bass culture - Rampage!

An OG of the Belgian scene, Murdock takes the time to share his journey from how he created opportunities for his earliest DJ sets... And how that effectively led to the humungous 20,000+ capacity events he and his team are responsible for now.

1 More Thing Podcast #020: Ed Rush

Saison 1 · Épisode 20

mercredi 17 avril 2024Durée 01:08:03

30 years deep into a benchmark-setting career, drum & bass jungle producer Ed Rush has only just released his debut solo album... Truth be told? He was having too much fun collaborating to even consider one!

From his time with the pioneering No U-Turn collective to his enduring tenure with Optical and the Virus family, music has always been a social experience for the London artist but events in 2020 took Ed - real name Ben Settle - in a more introspective direction... And led to a new creative perspective on his art, himself and the scene.

Two years back into the turbulent post-covid raving landscape, with a growing renaissance for the heavy, tech-flavoured drum & bass and his and Optical's Virus label currently celebrating 25 years, Ed Rush finds himself in an exciting and energised position. The dust still settling on his Light Of The Void album - released on Black Sun Empire's label Blackout - Dave Columbo Jenkins caught up with him to discuss everything from drum & bass to delta waves to daddying and everything in between.

1 More Thing Podcast #019: CLIQUES

Saison 1 · Épisode 19

mercredi 3 avril 2024Durée 01:03:56

The Podcast Experiences Of... CLIQUES

Welcome to the 19th episode of the 1 More Thing Podcast where Dave Columbo Jenkins sits down with an act who have, until recently, have maintained a strong air of masked anonymity.

Emerging in 2020 with a brazen sonic style, a production level that belies their newcomer status and a strong connection with cult retro soap opera character Barry Evans, CLIQUES have done things entirely on their own terms.

Carving their own unique place with a technique they describe as renegade art, the UK south coast trio have commandeered every subgenre of drum & bass, avoiding pigeonholes and landing them on labels such as Hospital, Breakbeat Kaos, Get Hype, Ram, their own imprint CCA and, most recently, Born On Road - Buried, featuring Eksman.

It was their previous EP however that set the scene for this podcast interview. Entitled Life Experiences Of, the EP features Genesis Elijah, Grim Sickers, Vio.let, LU:KE and Sammy Sapphire and was created in collaboration with CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) It comes with a powerful message that taps into some of their lowest and most vulnerable emotional experiences. It doesn't matter how low you feel, you can still get back up on top and there will always be help no matter how dark things feel.

A one-of-a-kind body of work in drum & bass and a release that reveals them on a whole new personable level, Paul and Phil CLIQUES embraced this special moment last month and take part in this, their deepest interview of their career so far. Enjoy.

1 More Thing Podcast #018: Naibu

Saison 1 · Épisode 18

lundi 11 mars 2024Durée 01:07:13

#podcast #dnb

Today on the 1 More Thing podcast we celebrate the return of a French craftsman who has recently broken a five year release silence with his remarkable and ambitious new album Sans Soleil.

Bonjour Naibu. An enigmatic, talented and philosophical musician.

Breaking through in the late 2000s on Fabio's Creative Source with a beguiling signature that owes just as much to classical as it does contemporary deep drum & bass, Robin Leclair's ever-evolving sound holds a unique space in drum & bass. His return has been long overdue.

We find out where Naibu's been, how he came to work with a massive orchestra on his new album, why he doesn't DJ and why we hopefully won't have to wait another five years for more fresh Naibu music. Get to know!

1 More Thing New Generation Podcast #001: Gifta

Saison 1 · Épisode 1

mardi 20 février 2024Durée 01:18:02

It's a brand new podcast series from 1 More Thing!

Welcome to the New Generation series.

Running in between our episodes where we speak to established talents, legends and pioneers, 1 More Thing's New Generation series gives space to those who are just entering the bass game and looking to make their own contributions to the movement.

These conversations will focus on the challenges young artists face in today's climate, their routes into music, their influences, their crew and their vision of the future. Broken up by a few musical selections along the way, each episode will be a fascinating insight into the life of an artist who's starting to make all the right impressions.

Artists like Gifta.

The first artist to be featured in this series, Gifta has been on the D&B grind for 10 years but has really made a massive impact since the lockdown era at the start of the 2020s.

Head honcho of Phase Records, and recently graduated from a year's business mentorship at the mighty Hospital Records, Gifta heads up an impressive collective of new generation artists on her label and is crafting a unique and formidable sound as a producer.

Dave Columbo Jenkins joins her to find out about her journey so far and find who see nominates for the next New Generation episode!

Enjoy
