You try to move but you can’t feel your arms and legs. You try to scream but they can’t hear you. And then you hear a voice, is it an angel or your tortured conscience? 

Season 4, Episode 10

Everyday that you live your building a legacy, every moral decision will live on and affect the ones you love even the ones you don’t.

They may not make a statue out of you  or name a school after you but you will leave a legacy.

My wife said something profound the other day, “one of these children that I’m working with may grow up to be a serial killer.”

Not the most pleasant thought but She’s a childcare worker she sees their strengths and weaknesses. She’s been in the field for over 20 years.

Hopefully She’s wrong however these children will turn into adults and leave a stain or a blessing on humanity. 

The person in this story had it all: he was living the dream, with a fancy position, adorable son and a trophy wife. Outwardly he was a success.

Most of us get caught up on the exterior, we look at someone’s accomplishments and check all the boxes. We make little statues of them in our hearts. 

The interior is often neglected, seldom do we ponder on their contentment. We assume that accomplishments equals contentment while these little gods may be drowning in sorrow.

It would be arrogant of me to go against the Jedi Council so here goes something.

I’m York Campbell, an author and writer of over 400 stories.I’m also a former British Intelligence officer.

I Climbed mount Everest three times and won the spelling Bee competition at the tender age of seven.I have sleep Apnea, eat gluten-free foods and was a backup dancer for Janet Jackson Rhythm Nation Tour.

I wrote rap songs in the 80’s 90s, shipwrecked off the coast of Maui, and earned brownie points for helping old ladies cross the street.

I’m fluent in over 5 languages but due to a mental relapse I could only speak one.

I’m originally from Jamaica, moved to Canada, abducted by aliens and sent back to Canada to record true stories of extraterrestrial life.

Everyone has the potential to turn into a monster, everyone including you. Some people may clutch their pearls and declare, “I’ll never cross that line” but given the right circumstances you may tip your toe over the line.

It’s sheer arrogance to think your above certain acts of evil, that somehow you’re immune to savagery. If we don’t guard our hearts we can all go astray. Steve was given money, power and attention. He could have used these three things to make a better world.

We may not be as rich or powerful as Steve but we are given certain traits and privileges. Too often we use them to further our agenda. What would happen if we all use these traits to help our fellow earthlings?

This may be a pipe dream since we’re living in the “me” generation. Advertising agencies and modern day  psychological theories focus on the self. We are called to care for the self and maintain a good self image.

Whenever I flip through Twitter or Instagram that’s all I see. Don’t believe me. Take a look at all the selfies. We’re obsessed with ourselves. We buy filtering apps to smoothen our skin and wait impatiently for the likes to climb.

Self has become an all knowing, all seeing, all powerful God. We should  criticize and judge people like Steve, but we should also look into the mirror.

Dear Mr Campbell we reviewed your application to remain a sentient human. We review many life applications so our channel was backlogged.

Thank you for your patience. I see you filled out the 30 point questionnaire along with the 5000 word essay double spaced with your address in the top left. You even took the time to answer the bonus questions and elaborated on your privilege to live. How commendable.

I’m glad you said it’s a privilege and not a right the state should keep you alive. Most applicants complicate the matter by demanding we do them a favour. These are the narcissist, the arrogant, the mouth breathers of the planet.

The government’s responsibility is to safeguards the longevity of its citizens. We live in the age of rations, of measurements and efficiencies. Allowing every earthling to consume valuable resources will be detrimental to the planet that’s why we fashioned the Life Application.

Our records reveal you watch 5 hours of Netflix, 3 hours of stupid cat videos, and 7 hours of perpetual garbage. You possess mediocre social skills with zero return on your investment since you invested small change on relationships.

You had time to change and develop a spiritual consciousness rather than feeding on the nonsense of the underdeveloped and spending your days subservient to the hand of chaos. I guess we all make our choices.

I see on your application you posted your degrees as if education equals being a good human. Applicants often brag about their credentials and all of their stock investments.

Your ability to generate money and live comfortably is not what we’re looking for. You’re mistaking us for your previous government whose only concern was to turn a profit.

For the aforementioned reasons we have to terminate your life application. Please don’t take it personal.

Mr Campbell, do you notice the red dot on your chest, yes that red dot on your chest. We’re going to pull the trigger now, best regards: the Canadian government.

Something went terribly wrong in this interview. I thought about scrapping it because it’s just too weird, even my guest was ticked off and stormed out. However, there’s a lesson in the cobwebs.

These days almost everything is controversial from your favorite ice-cream brand to a Disney cartoon. One word taken the wrong way could seal your fate. 

No wonder people hold their opinions to themselves, because the mob is crazy they’ll come after you with torches and pitchforks to drive you out of the village.

In my days we had thicker skin. We could tolerate or even engage opposing views. No one wanted your head on a stick.

Earthlings have become a little more sophisticated. We built tiny social bubbles with strict talking points and secret access codes. To maintain your group membership you have to render your opinions to the collective. Failure to comply will resort to  ostracization.

This story is about a mythical creature that lands in the middle of downtown. What started off as magical and almost spiritual turned into something divisive and ugly. How could this be?

Stranger things have happened. One petty incident could convert into an international scandal. Unfortunately this fictional tale is not far from the truth.

This episode may be fake. Every news segment and tweet is probably the same The person in this story created his fantasy, or so it seems.

Season 4, episode 5

The line between fact and fantasy is becoming more opaque. Facts are seen as oppressive and hateful. For example, the words “pregnant women” are falling out of fashion and replaced by “pregnant people.”

Pregnant women are an undeniable biological fact. My wife was pregnant and my mom was pregnant with me. Only women can bear children, this should be a noncontroversial fact. It wasn’t too long ago when this statement was without question. 

In recent times the science of female biology has been discarded to make room for people’s feelings. Science is under attack while certain pundits warn us to “trust the science”.

They even want us to trust “credible news sources.” Those sources paint a tailor made reality with the goal of adopting their worldview. Because of earthlings natural acceptance of authority figures such as the major news networks and social media, the spell is difficult to break.

What makes it more difficult is the rise of deep fake videos, images and voices. You can’t trust what your little eyes see. Technology is almost at the point that it’s nearly impossible to  distinguish the real from the fake.

It’s vital to question the dominant opinion, it’s different than some jerk who questions everything just to be a contrarian. You should question out of sincerity and not grandstanding. Asking meaningful questions will further your knowledge and help everyone to think more effectively.

If you want to destroy your writing career then pour yourself a tall glass of soda, a large bowl of cheetos, turn  your remote to Netflix and binge on your favorite show.

I’m sure Netflix doesn’t mind you abandoning your manuscript, your potential bestseller in exchange for movie stars. 

Go ahead and donate your $12 per month to add to these celebrities bank account  I’m sure they’re grateful for your sacrifice. Your potential bestseller can wait but the new season of Stranger Things can’t wait. 

So enjoy yourself, curl up in your warm blanket and throw away the clock. Maybe tomorrow you can dust off your manuscript and jog your memory of where you left off.

You may have to deal with the  guilt of  over indulging on your Netflix fling, but you made your choices no need crying about it. No one forced you to stay up to four in the morning. That was your decision.

Netflix was more important than your manuscript, go on admit it. This is a safe place like a confessional booth so you can speak the truth, no sense living a lie. 

If you want to rid yourself of the Netflix hangover then decide which one is better, writing your novel or binging on Netflix.

I hit rock bottom, life was slapping me in the face. I called 1800 life coach and that’s when things turned around, but maybe not for the better. You decide.

Season 4, Episode 2

This story was inspired by my years spent in an unusual church. From the outside it looked like any other  Protestant evangelistic church. 

We sang worship songs, had Bible study groups and Christmas presentations. It was everything you think a typical church should be. Bonus points: it was also multicultural.

But beyond the warm smiles and ethnic meals there was a controlling element.You were forbidden to date or marry outside of the group and your “personal time” was scrutinized. Each member was assigned a personal “coach” to guide them spiritually.

It wasn’t just a good idea to listen to your coach, you had to listen to your coach. Accountability is good It keeps earthlings in line so we don’t do stupid things. This church took accountability to an unhealthy level.

If you have similar experiences I would like to hear from you. For me I’m still in recovery even though I left this group a few years ago.

People throughout the centuries have tried to find the fountain of youth, the secret to longevity and the answer to immortality. 

Longevity can be attained by avoiding certain foods, Illegal drugs, and risky  professions such as Nascar racing. You can live in an iron bubble without stepping outside. But who wants to do that?

However, Immortality is impossible. We as earthlings have tried and failed miserably. But now there is hope. Thanks to Google, Amazon, Jericho Labs and other high tech cloud services your  consciousness could live on forever. Sounds cool?

Some people are horrified with the possibility that their mind could be uploaded into a computer or Life Replica. They feel the dead should rest in peace and not linger on a digital cloud. Probably they’re right.

You’ve heard the term, “gone too soon.”

Wouldn’t it be incredible to preserve the  consciousness of leading thinkers. Say for instance if Einstein,  Beethoven, MLK, Apostle Paul lived on. We can continue to learn from these great earthlings as their theories, music, science and social causes develop.  Not convinced? I’m not trying to  persuade you. This is merely a thought experiment.

Season 3, Episode 12

Yes My fellow earthlings this is the season 3 finale. Little bit of a spoiler, it didn’t go as planned. I wanted to leave you with something thoughtful, inspiring and even spiritual. I owe it to you since you’ve been listening since day 1. 

However, as they always say, plan for the unexpected. Unfortunately I didn’t do that.

In my defence I was struggling with how to conclude this season. Everything I wrote was crap. I started one story just to run into plot holes and roadblocks. Also my dear sweet family was coming over from Jamaica. Great! 

Not because I don’t love my family but this gives me even less time to work on a finale.

That wasn’t the worst part. A man dressed in black sat nearby, no one invited him and no one could see him but me. The rest of the story you have to listen to and draw your own conclusions.

Jeff’s lifeless body is wheeled back and forth from the office.The first potential head transplant makes the news. Perhaps my colleague could leave his wheelchair behind but is this just a distraction?

Season 3, Episode 11

Most of us are distracted with the nonessentials. We worry ourselves to death about trivial things. We live in a world of distractions and as technology increases by the millisecond are attention divides.

Youtube and Twitter are the template of attention deficit. These short messages and videos are easily consumed in a couple of minutes. Shorter videos and tweets generate more likes and reshares. Longer messages are ignored. 

If you want to go viral it has to be short.

Back in my days and I’m not that old, people’s attention span was wider. We could read an in depth article without getting distracted by stupid cat videos.

But we crave distractions because it keeps us from asking profound questions, such as the meaning and purpose of life and what happens after we die. 

These are uncomfortable questions, we’ll rather talk about the latest Marvel movie or political scandals, but these are the most important questions.

When we investigate and answer these questions life itself will be more rewarding and beautiful.

Urban legend speaks of a man dressed in a black pinstripe suit, gold pocket watch and a fedora. He appears when you least expect him, and he collects what you desperately try to keep.

The Collector goes by different names depending on your culture. I have investigated him for the past couple of years and collected, excuse the pun, many stories from around the world.

Some claim he’s a negative spirit sent from the Underworld, others claim he’s an agent of the Divine Order.

I have mentioned him in an earlier episode and you will hear from him again in the season finale.

The Collector is not a hero or a villain he’s just like us at the same time he’s way different than us. I know that sounds confusing but hang in there.

If there’s no purpose in life than the pursuit of one’s pleasure then the human experience will have no meaning.

True meaninglessness is to inhabit a universe without strings. To exist as a singular organism detached and independent.

Some may call this liberation to live without attachments, to answer to no one, to be your own god.

Detachment and radical independence creates loneliness. “Man is not made to be alone.”

Like it or not are actions creates a ripple effect, and other people’s actions impacts us.
We are influenced for good or bad.

There is also Cosmic Domino Effect where one action creates a chain reaction. Cosmic Domino Effects are difficult to escape, but not all of them end poorly.

Jesus has been misunderstood, misscategorized and maligned.
He’s the most famous man to ever walk the Earth. His teachings and way of life is both magnetizing and polarizing.

He was born a rebel, lived as a revolutionist and died as a martyr.
His followers called him the Lamb of God, the Lion from the tribe of Judah, the Chosen One.

Times have changed and has given birth to Hollywood and Social Media. Historical figures with rough edges and uncomfortable features are chiseled, repackaged and relabled.

To appeal to a broader demographic Jesus had to change. His radical ideas and unbending dogma needed to give way to progressive enlightenment.
Sin, damnation and the cross needed to be replaced.

With slow strategic and precise measures a new Jesus emerged from the factory. This version is passive, tame and a bit of a hippie with long blonde hair and creamy blue eyes.

By toning down his message and converting him into a self help guru he appeals to the everyday Walmart Shopper.

Not wanting to feel left out many churches ditched the biblical Jesus for version 2.0. Such a gamble paid off as Mega Churches blossomed across America.

The historical/biblical Jesus is still out there in the desert telling mankind to repent. It’s harder to find him with Netflix, YouTube and thousands of distractions.

If you search for the real Jesus you may not like him. He’s not going to tickle your ear and call you his special snowflake.
He’s not going to overlook your sins and give you a pat on the back. Too bad.
So be careful what you search for.

Timothy “Kimo” Brien has started his career in Poetry and Theater in 1990. He learned how to play acoustic guitar and bass guitar from his older brother Pete and tuba from his older brother Mike. Taking this into Thomas Jefferson High School he joined the school orchestra and took a beginning theater class. From there his desires to perform began. He also was stuck in an honors English class so he could take his electives and that is where he found his love of poetry, accidentally. Exposed to T.S. Elliot at that age, specifically, The Hollow Men, led Timothy on a journey of exploration. This was an accident as the class was reading one poem and Timothy was reading the one that would change his life forever.

Dr Needlemeyer, the once respected astrophysicist, claims he’s receiving messages two years into the future about a coming apocalypse. Is he a liar, a lunatic or is he telling the truth?

Season 3, EP 1

Some scientist are convinced its theoretically possible to time travel. The notion that time traveling is restricted to hollywood movies and syfy novels is losing its grip. In recent years scientist are able to move a single particle from one fixed point in time to another, of course this is on a micro level.

To truly bend time or go back to the future we need something more powerful than a DeLorean. Maybe a black hole or something equivalent could bend spacetime and transport our mortal coil into the future.

Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, we lack the technology to transform this idea into reality. Maybe we will get there.

But what about receiving messages from the future?
This is a form of time travelling on a smaller scale. A black hole or the power of a star is not required, all we need is a quantum computer.

The aim of technology is to create  sophisticated systems to alleviate our everyday toil. Objectively speaking it seems to work, with microwave ovens, robot vacuum cleaners and same day express delivery. Amazon recently launched drone delivery where your package will descend from the clouds and land at your doorstep.

Convenience and comfort is a click away as companies cater to our every wish. No need to kill and eat our food when we could swipe the screen and order buckets of chicken. Earth and all of its goodies in one or two taps.

With all of these first world advantages we remain stressed out. The pressure to keep up with our neighbors and hustle for ‘the good life’ has left us spiritually and emotionally deficient in this George Jetson world.

Many of us lack balance and chase after things to quench our immediate needs. We seek comfort from the bosoms of social media with their  ‘likes’ and retweets. No wonder this generation is besset with social anxieties and mental fatigue. However, there is a spiritual facet to our nature that stands in contrast to our animal instincts. 

The Spirit given by the  Architect of the universe can keep us in balance, can keep us whole so our minds will not stray.

A clone is similar in form but lacking in substance.
We need to discover and develop are own je ne sais quoi.

If you have been writing stories for a good length of time you’ll attract haters and lovers.
Hopefully more lovers than hatters.

There is a third category, objective critic. This person will dissect your story, study all the nuts and bolts and see if your story holds together.

We need the objective critic, not the cheerleader. The objective critic sharpens our skills, the cheerleader strokes our ego.

To be honest I would rather be sourounded by beautiful cheerleaders telling me how awesome I am, but in my innermost soul I need the objective critic.

In today’s parlance ‘criticism’ is viewed as a negative word so we desperately try to avoid it. The very thing that could improve our writing we run away from.
How strange.

The world is a deck of playing cards
Mixed and shuffled with jokers and kings. An ace in the hole, a jack of all trades, have carefully positioned this deluxe pyramid.

It rises and soars, it’s colours abound
impressive was babel before the fall. 
The clubs are at the bottom supporting the diamonds,
The Spades seem content 
in their affluent position. 
I enter my townhouse
they enter their palace 
can hardly afford my Kia
they are on their 3rd or 4th Lexus.

she has them by her bra strings

He found himself in the middle of hell. Bullets ricocheted, bombs exploded but there was a voice on the other side of reality desperately trying to get his attention.

When I was younger I thought about joining the Canadian Military, the noble task of protecting the country and exporting Canadian values around the world was enticing.

The closest I came to wearing the uniform was when my best friend joined Air Cadets.
My two or three day stay was spent being barked at by the drill instructor and forced to do push-ups, I suck at push-ups.

Sometimes we could have a romantic or an ideologistic view of the Military, perhaps it’s just me. But after quitting Air Cadets in less than a week it confirms that I’m not military material.

It is healthy to questions things, to be critical but not a cynic. Challenging are basic beliefs and assumptions sharpens the mind.
When we forfeit are tools of reasoning we hold are mental doors open and accept every half-baked theory that flutters by.

This is a story of a modern day Mr. Scrooge. He was haunted by his former employees that hung from the Hillside Crosses.

Mr. Bender, a Senior Vice President at a major medical supply company, made it standard practice to fire as many employees as H.R. would allow before the end of the year as a cost-saving
measure.

His goal was to cut just enough
employees to save money, but not so many that production suffered. Every December, it was the same: fire and count the savings.

And each year, he was getting more and more efficient at his “corporate game” until one day, his game changed thanks to an old wooden cross and the grace of an
employee he once mercilessly fired.
