In today's society, it can be easy to find ourselves overwhelmed by unease and fear and simply grieving what used to be. In this episode with healers and storytellers Lewis Mehl-Madrona and Barbara Mainguy, they share about learning to manage our sense of discomfort around others with differentiating views and how we can use the power of positive belonging and community for healing and understanding. Lewis and Barbara co-direct the Coyote Institute, where they are committed to bridging Indigenous wisdom, storytelling, psychology, and modern medicine. They share about their exciting 5th Annual Two-Eyed Seeing Conference coming up in January and tell stories of spiritual healing across many disciplines. The episode ends with a powerful metta meditation to offer yourself acceptance and kindness so that you can go on to wish those same affirmations on the ones we love, as well as those who make us uncomfortable. Lewis and Barbara were the very first guests on the Walk Through Grief with Grace podcast, and as these four years of the show come to an end, it is an honor to welcome them back on for a message of love, deep listening, and collaboration in a divisive world.

"Love Never Fails", even when the target of that love has died. This is the motto and mission that has motivated and bolstered Sarah Mayfield since the sudden and unexpected death of her 1.5 year old son, Elliot, seven years ago. Sarah is a Compassionate Bereavemet Care Certified Provider who has used her own grief to help others to lessen their trauma while honoring and carrying grief, taking what they feel inwardly and expressing it outwardly through ritual, and acknowledging that while grief doesn't necessarily get easier, it does shift and move in different ways. | 088: A Story of Relentlessness and Showing Up in Times of Grief with Caitlin Epstein | 03 Sep 2025 | 01:07:25 | |
In the Spring of 2021, my producer, Caitlin, and I began planning the launch of this podcast. At the same time, her aunt was diagnosed with bile duct cancer. For the past four years, we have produced dozens of episodes as Caitlin's aunt Diane fought to make it to an important milestone: her younger son's high school graduation. On May 23rd, 2025, Diane passed away 12 hours after graduation, and for the first time ever, Caitlin agreed to step out from behind the curtain and sit behind the mic herself to share her family's story. It is a story of sacrifice, relentlessness, and deep love - all things that Diane demonstrated with so much fight and stubbornness in her final years. Caitlin shares how we can show up for each other during tough times, the ways her aunt inspires her work and future goals, and the importance of family - the family we're related to and the family we choose. Caitlin and Jenn also announce the end of the podcast this November and how they plan to honor and memorialize a show that has opened up so many important conversations around grief.

| 087: Bring Levity and Empathy to Caring for Aging Parents with Howard Miller | 20 Aug 2025 | 00:46:46 | |
"Laughter is the best medicine" may seem like just a common cliche, but humor and levity can be powerful tools when it comes to caring for aging family members. In this episode, Jenn is joined by Howard Miller, the author of Burdens and Blessings, to discuss the lessons he learned while caring for his parents who lived into their nineties. Howard shares so many lovely examples of humor found through grief and challenging times, discusses navigating sibling relationships while caregiving, and key tips for determining what we and our loved ones want for their care as they grow old or face health issues. One of the key messages of this episodes is bringing empathy to caregiving as we realize the vast loss our parents are experiencing - the loss of people, physical and mental capabilities, and more. By putting ourselves in their shoes and giving them as much agency as possible, we can help our parents and ourselves find more joy and comfort in their later years.
