Demining activities may be one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. But Helen Gray doesn't mind.

A Scot from just outside Edinburgh, Gray worked with the Hazardous Areas Life-Support Organization, or HALO Trust, a humanitarian demining agency. She led a 400-member demining team in Mozambique in 2009 and has worked in various countries to help remove mines.

Now she runs a farm, with livestock, whilst being a landmine advisor for the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD).

David Duke is the founder of Street Soccer Scotland, an organisation that provides free football sessions for the homeless and socially excluded. It's been a phenomenal success, giving people that sense of community and purpose that can help them get their lives back on track. Since 2009 the charity has had over 22,000 players engaged in sessions.

Marcus chats to Paul Boggie, a man that battled heroin addiction for 7 years, then decided to turn his life around to become a Queen’s guard, in one of the world’s toughest army regiments.

Paul's spine was later damaged in a car accident, forcing him onto painkillers, meaning another battle to beat substance dependence again. He overcame it and wrote all about his journey in Heroin to Hero, an autobiography with all proceeds going to charity. He's got some great insights into addiction, determination and lessons learned.

His life was turned into a play at the Edinburgh Festival last summer and he has followed this up with a second book.

Michelle Gomez is a native Glaswegian that has starred in Green Wing, Doctor Who and more recently The Flight Attendant. She played Missy and the first female Master in Doctor Who, but her rise to supervillain and comedic great didn't come overnight. Working bar jobs and grafting eventually landed her the break out role in Green Wing and to working with talents such as Peter Capaldi and Steven Moffat.

Sue Palmer, a former primary headteacher in Scotland, is a literacy specialist, writer, presenter and ‘childhood campaigner’. She has written over 200 books, software packages and TV programmes for schools on aspects of literacy and many hundreds of articles for the educational and national press.

Over the last fifteen years, her books on child development in the modern world – notably Toxic Childhood (second edition 2015) – have led to frequent media appearances and comments about changes in children’s lifestyles. Research for her 2016 book, Upstart: the case for raising the school starting age and providing what the under-sevens really need inspired the Upstart Scotland campaign, of which she is the Chair.

Sue also chaired the Scottish Play Commission, served on the Scottish Government’s Early Years Task Force and has been listed in Who’s Who since 2014 as a ‘writer and childhood campaigner’.

She chats with Marcus about what's best for our children in the modern world and how we can change the education system to best serve their needs.

Sanjeev chats about how his family moved from London to Glasgow when he was 3 and how the place has changed over the years, including his experience of being one of the few Asians in his school and neighbourhood.

Russell has an interesting story, hailiing from Selkirk in the borders, with a life now that takes him around the world. As the first person in his family to go to higher education, he thought a solid career in banking would be the rest of his professional career, but realising that wasn't for him, he discovered a talent for communicating within business and specifically tech businesses.

Working in London he met Christine Esson, and started a group that helped businesses in Scotland expand to the capital by meeting the Scots diaspora working here. It's been so successful that it is now global, and helps many businesses captialise on the goodwill towards Scotland.

Russell has some gems of wisdom to share, as he has found in his career helping others. He joined Marcus from Sweden....

John Gordon Sinclair is a Glaswegian actor, best known for playing Gregory in the 1981 cult classic film Gregory's Girl. Aside from films, he's been in many TV shows and plays like Death in Paradise and An Actor's Life for Me. Acting wasn't his destiny, he just as easily could have ended up as an electrician, training as he was when he first entered the theatre.
