Ep78: Jade Melbourne The Kid's Alright23 Jun 202200:56:13
In this episode Jade Melbourne only 19 years of age is vying for a return to the Opals squad for the FIBA Womens World Cup. She’s repped the Green & Gold in junior ranks but no one can forget her enthusiasm when she burst onto the Opals squad at the FIBA Asia Cup in Jordan earlier this year.

She’s the real deal in hoops passion, and her speed and agility was something to see at the recent Japan friendlies against the hugely talented Tokyo Silver Medallists.

Recently drafted to Seattle Storm - a Mecca for Aussie talent, Jade will delay WNBA training camp as she continues to develop her game in NBL1 at the Ballarat Miners and in her return to the UCCaps next season.

It’s a fun podcast with Jade as we tap into that enthusiasm and how it impacts fellow team mates and fans. Her desire to learn and deeply engage no matter how many minutes she’s on the court will propel her Basketball IQ beyond her years much like her 2 basketball idols renowned for their hoops smarts (listen out for that one).

We cover it all, from a gruelling WNBL season to Opals, WNBA and the drive that defines her and her approach to the game.

We hope you enjoy this one as much as we did!

In this episode, Stranger Things: Opals and Japan, our hosts Paul Camillos and Jacinta Govind talk about the recent 3 game series between Australia and Japan in Sydney and Newcastle.

The Akatsuki Five won the series 2-1 where several Opals players debuted in the Green and Gold. It was a thriller of a series, fast paced, closely contested and no doubt both teams will be analysing and adjusting as they get ready for the Women’s World Cup this September in Sydney.

The young and enthusiastic Opals squad had completed their first game when the pre-Olympic drama between Liz Cambage and the Nigerian Team was publicly revealed in a detailed article by Matt Logue.

Strange times for our Opals but one we hope they can emerge from stronger, more hopeful and united on the road to the FIBA Women’s World Cup.

The Caz and Daz Show is a podcast on British Women’s Basketball, and it’s a real treat to chat with them about UK Hoops, the professional women’s league WBBL, and the huge growth in participation rates amongst GB youth.

Great Britain narrowly missed out on the Tokyo Olympics. Both our nations, while positioned differently have much in common. We explore this further, including the familiar challenges of maximising the sports exposure through viewership and much needed funding.

Their passion and love of hoops mirrors our own, we get a glimpse into the UK scene and it would be awesome to see our nations’ compete in hoops raising the profile of the sport to be a global powerhouse that it richly deserves.

S3 Ep53: A Life Basketball with Tom & Renae Garlepp16 Dec 202100:45:44
When two stars collide it’s spectacular. Husband and Wife team Tom and Renae Garlepp are phenomenal talents in their own right making an impact on the coaching stage.

Just as spectacular was this year's U20’s Nationals when they faced off as opponents coaching the Blue and White NSW Teams.

Juggling family life and coaching high stakes hoops with state pride on the line gets you some pretty special moments, but most valuable is their insight into developing hoops talent in schools at the age when many girls are opting out or switching codes.

It’s a wonderful slice of their basketball life, and we're so grateful they shared it with us.

Non-stop laughs of course but don’t be fooled - these two are deadly competitive.
