An investment opportunity like no other18 Jan 202400:31:01

Devine Destiny, in Negril, Jamaica, was one of the premiere hotels in the '90s and early '00s. Due to a series of unfortunate events, the property ultimately failed. Now, the owners are on a mission to sell. I had the opportunity to walk the property with James Horvath, one of the owners. I learned about the history of this property and what it was like in its heyday. But perhaps most importantly, we discussed what this property could potentially turn into. It's a large 10.5 acre property with a lot of potential. I also had a conversation with Mragit Eder of Valerie Levy & Associates, who is the realtor representing this property. We also ideated ideas on what this property could turn into. We, of course, talked about the selling price as well. I hope you enjoy this real estate fixer-upper video.

Why he chose the Jamaican Dream over the American Dream26 Apr 202301:02:01

Welcome back to another episode of On Deck with Throp. In this episode, I'm excited to share a meaningful conversation I had with my good friend, Matthew Wallace. Matthew is a young entrepreneur, hotelier, and restaurateur who made the bold decision to return to Jamaica after studying abroad.

You see, it's common for Jamaicans who study overseas to pursue opportunities in other countries due to their attractiveness. This often leaves fewer skilled and qualified people available to contribute to our nation's growth. But Matthew chose to come back home after obtaining his Hospitality degree from FIU, driven by the desire to invest in our beautiful island.

During our conversation, we discuss why Matthew decided to return, the opportunities and businesses he believes could thrive in Negril, and the inspiring origins of his ventures, Scotch Boyz and Matthew's Sushi Bar and Restaurant. Listen in as we explore the importance of investing in Jamaica and nurturing its development for a brighter future, even when the island may not offer as many attractive opportunities as other countries.

Join us for an insightful conversation on the power of choosing the Jamaican Dream over the American Dream and how this choice can have a lasting impact on our nation's future.

What is Driving Jamaica's Real Estate Investment Market?21 Apr 202300:22:27

In today’s episode, we explore what's driving Jamaica's real estate investment market. Jamaica's real estate industry has seen a massive boom in recent years, especially in the capital city of Kingston. As you drive through the city, it's hard to miss the many cranes in the air and the numerous residential developments underway.

To investigate this trend, I teamed up with Valerie Levy and Associates and in this first episode of our series, I'm joined by expert realtor Noel Phillips as we tour the construction site of The Vineyards at Deanery in Vineyard Town, Kingston. Noel provides a breakdown of the property, including costs and the target market, as well as an understanding of the surrounding community.

So, if you're curious about what's driving Jamaica's real estate market and want to learn more, sit back, relax, and join us on this informative journey.
