Highlights from TNSPPE- Interview with Dr. Sebastian Kahf,MD- Anesthesiology Resident, UCLA
---
In this interview with one of my good friends, Dr. Kahf, MD, an anesthesiology resident at University of California, Los Angeles, we discuss his career journey thus far, recalling his first appearance on "The New Chemist Podcast" in 2021 to now appearing on "The New Student Pharmacist Podcast Experience". Definitely a good interview! --- -- Biography of Dr. Kahf, MD ( UCLA Anesthesiology Resident) --- Sebastian Kahf is a first-year anesthesiology resident physician at UCLA. He went to Georgia Tech for undergrad and went to the Medical College of Georgia for his doctorate in medicine. In medical school, he conducted research in anesthesiology and presented his research in several state and national conferences as well as through publication in international-reach journals. By the end of medical school, he was selected for induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) national medical honor society. He is now completing his first year as a physician out in Los Angeles, California. In his free time, he is an avid runner, skier, DJ, and has started to get into surfing during the summer months. He hopes to pursue a career in academic anesthesiology and serve as faculty to teach future generations of medical students and residents.

A Perspective- Exploring Multi-Factorial Aspects of Quantum Dots- Unveiling Potential Applications?
———————————————————————————————————————————-
Introduction
First, in the realm of quantum dots, the gaze has long been fixed upon their size-dependent optical properties. These nanoscopic entities exhibit intriguing behaviors, where larger uniform nanoparticles offer more space for electron waves, consequently influencing their optical characteristics. Conversely, the confinement of subatomic particles within nanoparticles leads to observable quantized effects, significantly impacting their optical manifestations.
Discussion and Inquiry
Second, delving into the foundational principles of quantum chemistry, we often lean on established concepts like Heisenberg's uncertainty principle. This principle underscores the profound influence of momentum and position on entities at the quantum scale. Size, in essence, is a mathematical expression of position across a dimension or multiple dimensions.
However, what if we were to extend our analysis beyond the size-induced, and quantized-light dependent optical traits of nanoparticles? What if we were to consider their intrinsic and resultant momentum, and how this could affect their optical and temperature properties?
Might such an approach engender a spectrum of radiation with tuned multi-components? Could we better understand and tune the quantized light absorption of colloidal particles through an analysis of their intrinsic and resultant momenta and how that is affect by quantized light? Could we tailor these findings to meet diverse research and clinical needs and demands?
With these questions raised, this beckons us to venture beyond a conventional focus on position or size as a main parameter to adjust in pursuit of understanding quantum dot applications, phenomena, and behavior.
As scientists, it may serve us well to consider the profound implications of how these nanoparticles (quantum dots), potentially adjust or change their behavior within the context of an input of quantized light, when possessing an intrinsic or resultant momentum.

General chemistry involves the study of matter, which is made of atoms which can be understood using very small particles.
Those small particles can be electrons, neutrons or protons or even smaller. Chemical reactions involve those changes are dependent on reactant balance, rate, nearness, and position. Bonding influences properties and rate, nearness, position and reactant balance are related. In chemistry when we describe a substance, we talk about its properties. Two types of properties are physical and chemical. Chemical properties are linked to the bonding between the atoms, but physical properties are linked to the appearance, smell, melting point and others.
Physical changes are associated with physical properties, and chemical changes are associated with chemical properties are associated with chemical changes. Physical changes can be reversed but chemical changes cannot be reversed. A chemical reaction changes the chemical properties of a substance or forms a new substances, reactants make products. It is like ingredients combine and make a new substance. Now, there are four states of matter solid, liquid, gas and plasma. According to the “kinetic molecular theory”, solids are densely packed with particles, liquids are loosely packed and gases have a lot of space between their particles. This is why gases spread out or diffuse rapidly. Solids changing to liquids is called melting. Liquids to gases is called evaporation. Gas to solid is called deposition and solid to gas is called sublimation. These are phase changes. Chemistry is important and for anyone who is interested and has the passion, we will ensure that we help to create access for all interested. Never give up! Keep trying! You can do it!
