Kidventures Family Travel Podcast - Episode 27: Educational travel
Season 2 · Episode 3
vendredi 24 juin 2022 • Duration 31:27
Most kids might think family holidays are all about getting away from lessons - but iIn the latest episode of the Kidventures family travel podcast, hosts Cathy and Ting chat to co-founder of Original Travel, Tom Barber, about why all travel is educational.
Forget doing homework on the beach though: the new trend for Ed-ventures, or educational adventures, is designed to help kids learn more about the world, as well as picking up new skills, developing their own interests and discovering everything from culture to cuisine, language, history and more.
And it's not just exotic long-haul holidays: from a bucket and spade break on a UK beach to a European city break, as well as more far-flung destinations, there are lessons to be learned every time you travel. The best part? This is stealth learning - so much fun that it never feels like school...

Kidventures Family Travel Podcast - Episode 18: 2021 UK travel
Season 1 · Episode 18
dimanche 28 février 2021 • Duration 42:35
Finally, there's good news on the travel horizon, with the first news of restrictions beginning to lift across the UK, in particular with the roadmap for England (so far). In this episode, the Kidventures family travel podcast hosts talk about their plans for 2021 UK travel, and what to keep in mind when you're booking.
There's also advice on avoiding the crowds in the most popular areas, ways to stay within budget if accommodation is booking up fast and prices are rising, and tips on areas you might not previously have considered... but which should definitely be on your family travel radar.
From husky sledding in Wales to a chained library in Hereford, the coasts of Cumbria and Northumberland to get your beach fix plus some travel highlights that did get squeezed in to 2020, it's the start of a planned series of episodes looking at exploring the best of the UK... and a chance to get excited about travelling once again.

Kidventures Family Travel Podcast - Episode 17: Toddler travel tips
Season 1 · Episode 17
vendredi 12 février 2021 • Duration 32:32
Ask most parents and they'll agree that travelling with toddlers is the hardest age to manage when you're planning family holidays - but that's no reason to stop. In this episode, the Kidventures family travel podcast hosts share all their top toddler travel tips, from food and routines to ways to cope with long journeys.
As well as their own experiences of travelling with toddlers and surviving (with two separate toddlers in Ting's case), there's also more advice in Ting's new free book, available to download at my-travelmonkey.com/tips-for-travelling-with-a-toddler/ or find out more at kidventures.co.uk
This episode was originally recorded in February 2020 but - for fairly obvious reasons - has been postponed until families can realistically think about travelling with young kids once again and make the most of the tips.
The advice covers travelling with toddlers in general, rather than specifically relating to post-pandemic holidays so as ever, check the latest travel restrictions and government guidance before you book or go.

Kidventures Family Travel Podcast - Episode 16: Coronavirus and travel
Season 1 · Episode 16
samedi 14 mars 2020 • Duration 26:39
There's only one topic on everyone's minds at the moment - and so only one podcast we could make this week, which is why this episode of the Kidventures family travel podcast is on Coronavirus.
Current events are moving almost too fast to keep up, and most of us are worrying about more than how Corvid-19 affects travel. But with many of our future plans in doubt, including Easter travel, we're taking a look at some of the facts about the pandemic as well as how you stand if you've got a trip booked.
At time of recording, Italy had just gone into lockdown, and there have already been more travel restrictions imposed by different countries in the past day or two - the comments here are likely to be overtaken by further events, so please check the most recent advice from medical professionals and other official bodies.
And while everyone's situation is different, with some more at risk than others, we've tried to tackle the main everyday questions that most of us have. We hope you find it useful.

Kidventures Family Travel Podcast - Episode 15: Fussy eaters and travel
Season 1 · Episode 15
samedi 29 février 2020 • Duration 35:15
Who's wished their kids would eat anything? There's no question that finding food your kids love can be tricky enough at home - let alone when you're travelling. In this episode, the Kidventures family travel podcast hosts are joined by Emily Leary, author of Get Your Kids to Eat Anything and blogger behind A Mummy Too, to get tips on helping kids to try new things and making food a fun - not stressful - part of travel.
We chat about everything from why kids love to say 'NO' to whatever's put in front of them, why getting hands on or heading off the beaten track can help, and why encouraging kids to try different food works in a similar way to potty training or sleep training. And if the proof of the pudding is in the eating, as a result of the podcast's tips, Cathy even managed to get her rather picky daughter to eat curry...!

Kidventures Family Travel Podcast - Episode 14: Kids clubs
Season 1 · Episode 14
samedi 15 février 2020 • Duration 27:50
Would you put your kids in a kids' club? For some parents - and kids! - it's a highlight of the holiday, for others it defeats the point of family travel. The Kidventures family travel podcast hosts look at the pros and cons of holidays with kids clubs, and how to choose one.
Cathy and Ting discuss the things to know before you travel, what to look out for in a kids club, especially if you're travelling with younger kids, and what questions you need to ask. We share our stories of when kids clubs have gone really really right (and how you persuade your child to leave and actually spend time with you again!) and the times we really don't want to repeat.
From fantastic educational activities and coral planting to X-Boxes and late-night movies, there's a huge variety out there - not to mention a few less enticing options with a bit of colouring in a windowless room. Paid, unpaid, drop-in or quickly booked up, here's our advice to navigate what can be a family travel minefield.

Kidventures Family Travel Podcast - Episode 12: 2020 Travel plans
Season 1 · Episode 12
samedi 18 janvier 2020 • Duration 31:56
Where's on your 2020 family travel list? Back with new episodes after our Christmas break, the Kidventures family travel podcast hosts are chatting about travel plans for 2020, travel resolutions including trying to fly less and stick to a budget, and how politics might affect the holidays we take.
From trying to pack in European trips before Brexit happens (if it does!) and our attitude to risk when it comes to visiting countries in the Middle East and North Africa (among others), to looking at ways to be a bit greener, there are plenty of big questions to ponder.
And plenty which are a bit less hard-hitting - how much ice cream IS too much on a family holiday, will Ting really find a bargain if she holds her nerve to the last minute, and whether it's going to rain in Rome in February.
So if you've got blank pages in your diary and itchy feet, settle back for some inspiration and plenty of travel nattering.
