In this week's episode I'm joined by Seth Thomas to discuss Biodiversity and the Trade of Endangered Species!


Seth is a researcher interested in conservation biology, currently working as part of the Nature-based Solutions Initiative at the University of Oxford. He also contributed research to a recent paper for CITES, the (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) discussing how legal trade of endangered species can help restore their populations. Seth is also a great environmental communicator and can be found posting viral videos on TikTok under the handle @zethdafer !


In this episode we discussed what Biodiversity is and why its so important, how the fashion industry affects biodiversity as well as looking at how the trade of endangered species can sometimes benefit the species!

This episode was recorded in collaboration with Hothouse Book Club, it is a climate justice book club that meets every six weeks IRL and online. This panel talk was part of our Solastalgic Summer event celebrating our 1st anniversary as a group.


On this panel we discussed the concept of Solastalgia - the distress specifically caused by environmental change while still in a home environment. I was joined by Tori Tsui, author and a fierce advocate for climate justice andĀ Samrawit Gougsa, co-lead of the Land Body Ecologies research group at the Wellcome Trust and Head of Communications at Minority Rights Group andĀ Damien Gayle, environment correspondent for the Guardian.
