[26] Mathias OHREL - Inside the journey of a Headhunter | Fashion Career Lab with Lucas SILVA EDWARDS
Season 2 · Episode 16
lundi 4 décembre 2023 • Duration 48:07
Mathias OHREL is a well known Headhunter in the fashion and luxury industry, with more than 14 years of experience.
I wanted to talk to Mathias and understand his personal journey and get a sense of what makes a great headhunter today.
In this conversation, Mathias tell us about the vision on which is has built his company, why he is now going beyond fashion and entering the world of culture & entertainment.
Beyond the business man, what has touched me the most in this conversation, is Mathias’ passion, to really discover himself through all the different jobs he has done. Giving him, a unique point of view and probably an edge when it comes to understand the different brands him and his team work for.
In my opinion this conversation is a source of inspiration for any professional which desire working at the cross-road of business, creation and beauty.

Today, we gonna talk about one the most important challenge that our industry has to face: sustainability
And when I though about this topic, the first person I wanted to talk to was Hester Vanacker.
Hester is one my former student and I have helped her design her path into our industry.

That’s why I was not surprised when few months later, barely graduated, she announced that her first research paper on durability was published in a very well know scientific journal and that she was starting to work inside the Sustainability dept of one of the french luxury group.
Sustainability being such a new topic in our industry, the career path to work inside those kind of department are still not very clear. This is why I wanted to take this opportunity to chat with Hester and better understand what were steps she has taken so far and what advice she could provide for those who wants to do the same.
In this episode, you will learn about :
- How Hester used her design background as a stepping stone to tackle sustainability issues
- Her vision about sustainability and how she tries to infuse it in all level of the company
- The story behind her first research paper on the dimension of durability
- How to start building your expertise in sustainability from scratch
I also invite you to take a moment to look at the show notes, because Hester was kind enough to shared with us a large diversity of ressources, from documentaries, books, websites and research papers.

My name is Lucas SILVA EDWARDS, I am a Career strategist and Executive coach and I am please to announce that FASHION CAREER STORIES is back for a second season, starting next week.

And with this podcast, my role is to help you DESIGN a SUCCESSFUL LIFE and CAREER in one of the most competitive industry on the planet. For that reason, I interview each week fashion professionals at DIFFERENT STAGES of their career, in order to decode their best PRACTICES, TACTICS and STRATEGIES.
In this season, while a majority of my guest are french, we are gonna continue to travel, and get perspective from professionals from all around the world. Some of them come from Mexico, China or even Belgium and the Netherlands.
What they all have in common is their passion for this industry, the desire to find their way in and the will to make it better.
