THAT LINKEDIN POST

John caught up with Marc who had just returned disappointed at what was supposed to be a leading innovation event where he accused it of being greenwashed. He posted a picture of his badge torn in half and the response to his LinkedIn post was amazing.

The discussion moves into the reasons why he thinks this was as well as the challenges moving forward on ensuring good innovation for an industry which REALLY needs it.

Implementing Business Ideas for ZERO Carbon Outcomes08 Mar 202400:40:57

Episode sponsor: AEC Hackathon and BLOXHUB

The AEC Hackathons are an amazing event over different weekends in different countries. Over the first weekend of March we took an opportunity to get stuck in and record a panel debate and more content.

Last minute we decided to run a panel around a key question which had no prep time! But the outcome was excellent and we ended up down the rabbit hole of legislation to drive change as well as change management within corporate organisations.

The Hackathons are amazing way for the AEC industry to solve problems. Freedom away from the office enables people from different disciplines even competitors to work together to create something new.

Another COP has come and gone, this one (version 28) threw up its fair share on controversies. BUT, we wanted to look beyond the headlines to see what the wins were.

We had a closer look into how the decisions at COP28 will have a direct effect of the built environment and there has been some great progress made.

This was recorded from a LinkedIn LIVE session we did, so make sure you join more of these discussions in the future where we poll and get questions from the audience.

How do we pay for this? / Paying to Decarbonise Construction (Live from Dublin)08 Dec 202301:05:18

Episode guests: Eamonn Sheils from Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), Chris Jackson from esri, Archie O'Donnell and Ross Griffin from KOSMOS.

Episode sponsor: BIMCoordinators Summit by BIM Hero and ArcDox

ZERO hosted the ZERO Carbon stage at BIM Coordinators Summit in Dublin, September 2023. We hosted two great panel sessions and this is the second of two.

How does construction pay to decarbonise is a fascinating question which I hear often and seen answered both well and poorly. The panel jump headfirst into this with some great input from the audience as well.

It is a question that we at ZERO feels will be a podcast again and again as we as an industry mature our thinking and we meet new people from across the world.

The panel explore taxation, the cost of NOT doing it and the idea that estates will become stranded assets within a decade or so if retrofitting isn't started.

The Challenges of Counting Carbon in Construction (Live from Dublin)06 Nov 202300:53:36

Episode guests: Eamonn Sheils from Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), Chris Jackson from esri, Archie O'Donnell from KOSMOS.

Episode sponsor: BIMCoordinators Summit by BIM Hero and ArcDox

ZERO hosted the ZERO Carbon stage at BIM Coordinators Summit in Dublin, September 2023. We hosted two great panel sessions and this is the first of two.

Counting carbon like we do cost is something we should have been doing for years, but we don't! Why is this and how can we get an industry to change. This means for many projects we have no idea of the environmental impact we are causing and this MUST change. The panel jumps into this discussing not on the business factors but also the human.

We led an exciting panel discussion on why we’ve had some standards for so long but yet as an industry can argue have made small gains. These global organisations have created standards such as IFC and LEED but have these helped move the industry forward?

Do we use these standards? Are they fit for purpose? What leadership does our industry require? Can WGBC, BSI with ZERO fill the gaps? All questions are on the table for the debate.

There are huge challenges with offsite construction and also mixing that with the use of natural buildings materials it only gets more complex. Chloe knows this all too well as she navigates John and Matt through these challenges and what we can do to create a more rich and diverse material industry while also promoting modularisation.

Another year another hackathon where I get the chance to take part in an amazing weekend. This year I catch up with Torben and Ole to test my theory that Denmark is leading the way in decarbonising construction. We talk about why this could be, the approaches the industry is taking, the role of government and where the Danish built environment is heading both culturally and using ConTech.
