#5: Three Ways to Battle Back And Get on Track to Follow Your Dreams After a Major Life Event
Saison 1 · Épisode 5
mercredi 13 novembre 2024 • Durée 40:12
Imagine being nearly killed in a hit and run accident and then emerging with more fire than ever to pursue your passion. This is Kat Pattillo's journey and she shares it with Worth Knowing. From her life-threatening experience in 2019 to becoming a leader in education reform, Kat's perspective on life and career goals changed after her brush with death. Kat shares insights on resilience, long-term thinking, and advice for overcoming challenges, highlighting how her near-death experience shaped her approach to taking risks and making a positive impact in the field of education.
Kathlyn (Kat) Pattillo believes that we need to pay attention not only to well-known education ‘success stories’ in places like Finland, Singapore, and Canada, but also learn from systems change bright spots such as Brazil, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Indonesia. As a researcher, she writes stories and produces tools about how leaders in the Global South created education innovation and reforms. And as a facilitator, she designs experiences for leaders to learn from those examples about how to strengthen schools. Kat also speaks, advises, and teaches about how leaders transform Global South education systems - through pathways such as coalition and movement-building, collective impact, networks of proximate leaders, and large-scale systems change with government.
She is the Founder of Global Graduate School of Education, which runs field trips for education leaders to learn from Global South education systems. Their first program is the Coalition for System Reform, which strengthens foundational learning coalitions and runs cross-country immersion trips for government policymakers across Brazil, South Africa, Kenya, and India. Alongside this, Kat writes the EdWell newsletter and is writing a book about how to improve education (with examples from seven of the world’s largest countries).
Outside of work, you can find her rowing, going to yoga, cooking, swimming and finding peace in nature - in the mountain town of Asheville.

#2: Three Ways To Ensure Success After a Huge Personal Loss
Saison 1 · Épisode 2
mercredi 2 octobre 2024 • Durée 45:59
Imagine learning your husband has committed financial infidelity on a Thursday and your house is set to be auctioned off the following Tuesday. That happened to Lisa Weldon at age 56. But instead of giving in, she got up, put herself and her great talents out there, and made a new, fulfilling, impactful life. She published a book, was asked to give Cindy Crawford Life After 50 Tips with Oprah, and now works with Melissa Gilbert on Modern Prairie. At 70, Lisa Weldon is one very hip and sweet entrepreneur, and her journey to today is truly inspirational. Lisa openly shares how she forged a new path after a life crisis—a journey that is now bringing incredible rewards.
Lisa Stapleton Weldon, a graduate of Auburn University, has spent a lifetime in advertising in Atlanta. Her hobby? Walking cities and sharing the stories she finds.
At age 58, Lisa took a month out of her life to learn the new tools of her trade – social and digital media. She sliced of map of Manhattan into 20 pieces with the goal of walking one piece per day until she covered the entire island. At night she pored over instructional videos and blogged about the neighborhoods she’d walked. The following year she replicated that 30-day journey in Paris, and has since walked Shanghai, Istanbul, and several counties in Central America. Oprah’s network Harpo Productions caught wind of Lisa’s reinvention story and invited her to give Cindy Crawford advice on turning 50. HuffPost featured her walk of Paris on the front cover of the “Living Fearlessly” section. And Melissa Gilbert has contracted Lisa to create digital content for her 50+ community Modern Prairie.
Lisa’s first book Twenty Pieces: A Memoir earned awards from 2022 Nautilus Books and 2021American Best Books. She is currently writing a second book, Blood Sisters, a historical novel based in the Civil Rights era.
A fellow of the Hambidge Center and the Fairhope Center for the Writing Arts, Lisa is a featured speaker in numerous podcasts and online shows.
Her greatest joys in life? Her three grown children and a brand new grandson!

#13 From Ivy League to Inmate (Part 2): Rashmi Airan's Journey of Resilience
Saison 1 · Épisode 13
mercredi 11 juin 2025 • Durée 39:59
In this powerful episode of "Worth Knowing," we explore the remarkable story of Rashmi Airan, a former Ivy League attorney who became Inmate 05121104. For six long months in federal prison, Rashmi faced the harsh realities of incarceration, but it was within those walls that she discovered her inner strength and resilience.
Once driven by a relentless pursuit of success, Rashmi's life took a drastic turn with a federal conviction for bank fraud, stripping her of her career and freedom. Instead of allowing this to define her, she transformed her experience into a journey of growth and redemption.
Listeners can expect an honest glimpse into prison life, insights on accountability and self-forgiveness, and the introduction of Rashmi's RISE THROUGH IT™ framework. Now a motivational speaker and consultant, Rashmi inspires others to embrace their humanity and turn setbacks into opportunities for growth. Her story serves as a powerful reminder that even in our darkest moments, we can find hope and the strength to rise again.
About Rashmi Airan
Rashmi Airan is a captivating and motivational speaker, consultant, and catalyst for transformation with a mission to foster organizational cultures centered around authenticity. Her powerful story transcends the pitfalls of making a life-altering decision; it's a tale of leadership, core values, and decision-making, capable of creating a safe haven for courageous and often challenging conversations.
As a first-generation immigrant of Indian descent raised with lofty expectations, Rashmi excelled as a lawyer, graduating with honors from Columbia Law School. After gaining experience at major corporations, she embarked on an independent law practice in Miami. During the housing boom, she developed an ethical blind spot collaborating with a real estate developer engaged in questionable practices. Driven by her desire for success to provide for her children, Rashmi refrained from questioning her client's actions despite her inner voice urging caution. This led to a federal prison sentence for bank fraud.
During her six months in federal prison, Rashmi found inner peace and self-forgiveness. This humbling yet invaluable experience made her realize that while living with remorse is one thing, allowing it to define one's identity is another. Now a "recovering lawyer and investment banker," female leader, and community entrepreneur, Rashmi is an internationally recognized keynote speaker and TEDx presenter.

#11: From OJ Simpson Case to Best Selling Author - Marcia Clark Shares Latest Real Crime Book Release and How Resilience Is Key to Success and Reinvention
Saison 1 · Épisode 11
mercredi 7 mai 2025 • Durée 34:35
Marcia Clark, best known as the lead prosecutor in the O.J. Simpson trial, has become a trailblazer for women in law and beyond. Her journey from courtroom to bestselling author reflects her resilience and determination to redefine herself amidst intense public scrutiny. On this episode of Worth Knowing, Clark dives into her latest book, *Trial by Ambush*, which examines the 1953 Barbara Graham case—a story that highlights gender bias, media sensationalism, and the notion that all cases are subject to societal, cultural, and political winds.
Clark shares how her experiences during the Simpson trial shaped her perspective on societal pressures and the role of women in high-stakes professions. Her reflections on how media, forensic science, and legal practices have evolved over decades offer valuable insights into the intersection of law and culture.
This conversation is a compelling exploration of true crime, personal growth, and how Clark’s groundbreaking career continues to inspire a new generation of women to challenge norms and forge their own paths.
Marcia Clark is a bestselling author and a criminal lawyer who began her career in law as a criminal defense attorney and went on to become a prosecutor in the L.A. District Attorney's Office in 1981. She spent ten years in the Special Trials Unit, where she handled a number of high-profile cases, including the prosecution of stalker/murderer Robert Bardo, whose conviction for the murder of actress Rebecca Schaeffer resulted in legislation that offered victims better protection from stalkers as well as increased punishment for the offenders. She was lead prosecutor for the O.J. Simpson murder trial.
In May of 1997 her book on the Simpson case, "Without a Doubt," was published and reached #1 on the New York Times, Wall St. Journal, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and Publishers Weekly bestsellers lists. In February 2016, Clark re-released the book with a new foreword.
